Indian Post Offices in Iraq. Bagdad (Baghdad) SG. Postmark Type Z5. 1885-86. This one is cancelled in 1888 but I don't consider it a late usage until further info gleaned. SGZ21 (India #93)

SGZ21 (India #93) Very nice, LB1! Just wanted to tag blaamand , renden , and barbu to check out this excellent "forerunner" Iraq postmark on a stamp of India--this is a beautiful, clear strike of a "squared circle" cancel--great stuff!

Yeah, that Baghdad cancellation is a true Pearl! The squared postmarks are lovely only by their beautiful appearance. But when it is so lovely stuck as this example - and most importantly in Bagdad - well, then it is a joyful moment to put it in the album. But offcourse: the biggest joy is when you do such catches among otherwise normal stamps! What a feeling! Congrats!

I can't see that we have a sub-board for Iraq! Anyway, I found a small envelope with some stamps inside and thought I should list them on Colnect (I have already prepared a stock book for Iran - Iraq). One of the stamps is what I think the most common 'modern' stamp from Iraq, the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. But when I found it on Colnect there were 27 'variants'! Lots of different overprints. I cant find 'my' overprint there and 5 of the variants listed has no image. It is 16,5mm. Anyone with knowledge here? Colnect variant page

Thanks again for your post, Torbjørn ( tobben63), we have now got you in the right thread. Unfortunately, I don't know who to tag about your question, as I don't know who on TSF is knowledgeable about Iraq. Let's see if someone responds!

I am certainly not an expert, but I think it could be a Scott 1473 (overprint type O). Image below is from the 2017 Scott.

Once upon a time I bought a number of mixtures from a seller in Denmark and among them was a mix of stamps from Iraq. It was a successful purchase for me, lots of stuff I didn't have and had never seen, including quite a few stamps from the Saddam era. Stamps from that period have generally very poor printing quality and in this particular case, very poor perforation quality! This particular stamp has made two extra trips through the perforating machine. Ryan

But on that number Colnect have another image. (The weakness of a Wiki catalogue) but with a good editor and moderators it can be fixed. But I think I will put it aside until djcmh is recovered and back in action. As I don't have the catalogue it's hard to submit a new image to replace the one that is already there (Colnect).

Will check on this when I am back home. The myriad over prints that exist on the base stamp are somewhat tricky to sort out

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Among my little stash of duplicates is this complete set in pairs of the 7 year old child king of Iraq Faisal II as issued in 1942. I was just reading his history and execution at just 23 years old. Pretty sad story. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faisal_II_of_Iraq This set has a pretty low catalogue value but has gotten a bid and way more views and watchers than anything else I have listed at this time. I am sharing it because it is a nice looking set.

sharing my copy of the IRAQ IRAK 1970 UN Remember Palistine Overprint SOUVENIR SHEET 335b MNH intriguing that I saw a hipstamp sale for usd 112 yesterday, which I can't find today. and today I came across a seller for Canadian $ 12. but I like the way the sheet has been maintained, when I got it.
