Among the stamps in WW pouch from the Mystery Box, this one has me stumped. I could find out it's some sort of Yugoslav issue from 1939, but it is not listed in my AFA catalog, so it's likely BOB material. Can anybody tell me more?

I wish to start Inventory of Yugoslavia - this thread has already given some nice posts. I have, prior to doing this: 1) Read about the History of Yugoslavia and its Background 2) Consider merging all Countries related to this one, following history 3) Consider tha I will probably stop at 1950 or so as Scott, til 2003, has over 2,584 stamps + varieties + Semi Postals (157) + Air (61) + Revenues (78) plus others 300 or more.....I stopped counting If a member has already done the background and put it on paper, I would appreciate the help but I will still read its rich History. I have a lot of stamps from various Yugoslavia-related Countries and Yugoslavia in many Albums/books This could be a nightmare or "fun" or Bosnia 1918 - Slovenia Carniola 1919-20 - General issue series 1921 (first 3 stamps not from General issue of Jugoslavia but from Slovenia/Newspaper stamp 1919 and surcharge 1920)

renden How about a "nightmare OF fun?" I'm kinda a glass is half full guy. You are right and our problem (mine anyways) is that I have software which includes Croatia - Slovenia - Croatia-Slovonia - Bosnia/Herzegovina - Carinthia etc and gave them all a letter/number. Cannot wait to see how Steiner presents its pages as I would like to have a semi-custom album and not use Scott Albums for the project - As I thought (anticipated) Steiner follows the Scott system in its Yugoslavia pages Jeff - do you collect Jugoslavia/Yugoslavia ? Not sure. As I mentioned in another thread yesterday, I ordered the Scott cat pages for the country. About 20 years ago I purchased a Yugo collection in a Specialty album which ends at 1955. SCV in 2001 was $546. I don't have to keep it, or really want to keep it.

Or you are saying you are getting rid of your Specialty Album ?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I ordered the Catalog Listing pages from a vendor who sell them by country, not album pages. The Scott Specialty album is in quite good shape, but as I said, ends in 1955. A blessing to some I suppose

A General Issues Steiner Page re-done after I found other stamps to fill holes with better mounting (than previous one), I believe - it is amazing how these stamps have a low CV - I saw that this page had been scanned with 1 missing stamp - in 10 days I will complete the page with no holes (so it will not be a repeat thread page - sorry) BTW the 10 B1 overprint was applied to 500,000 copies and given to Wounded invalids who sold them 2d apiece. They had no franking power. New re-vamped page (other one deleted)

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

darkormex posted a So close! Yugoslavia page yesterday which sent me looking to see if I had the missing stamp he needs. No luck on that. I have quite a large selection of early Yugoslavia (Jugoslavia in my older Scott World Wide albums). This 1917 cover with Croatia-Slavonia stamps is the most interesting thing from that country/region. I thought of selling it but because it has several stamps I am missing I have kept it and left the cover in my album between pages with the relative sets.

I find this series of stamps depicting tourist attractions in Yugoslavia issued in 1959 and continued in 1962 and 1963 to be very well designed and attractive. I am slowly moving into post-war Yugoslav stamps and these keep catching my eye even though I am nowhere near mounting them yet. I have only these 9 but hope at some future point I can fill the spaces and own all of these stamps.

madbaker a little bit one stamp the 20 dinar one is called PODGARIC here is the writeup from wiki Monument to the Revolution of the people of Moslavina or simply Monument to the Revolution (Croatian: Spomenik revolucije naroda Moslavine) is a World War II memorial sculpture by Dušan Džamonja, located in Podgarić, Berek municipality, Croatia. The monument is about 10m tall and 20m wide. It is dedicated to the people of Moslavina during World War II. the 50 dinar stamp depicts the monument of KPARYJEBAU In the city of the same name there is a monument called the Interrupted Flight monument to the murdered high school students and their teachers who died in a massacre by the nazis in 1941 the 10 dinar stamp depict the monument of SUTJESKA The memorial is an exceptional work by Zivkovic and one of the best sculptural memorials in the Yugoslav space. It was erected in memory of the fighters killed in the battle of the Sutjeska when the Partisans suffered a terrible death toll as they broke out of the enemy encirclement in the 5th Nazi offensive in 1943. More than 7,500 people were killed in total; the monument with the ossuary is dedicated to 3,301 fighters killed in action.

Thank you anilkhemlani ! I'm going to dig into it more. Today (July 1) is "Canada Day" and my wife and I were talking about how folks don't know much about the history of this place. And I mentioned how what little history we were taught was with a distinct British, French or American point of view, and how most of what I know about the 'rest of the world' starts with stamps. You've already doubled my knowledge about Yugoslavia. I'm keen to learn more. 💖

When the Axis powers invaded Yugoslavia in 1941, Hitler granted Italy control of the northwestern portion that included Ljubljana (now the capital of Slovenia). Italy overprinted Yugoslavia's 1935-36 and 1939-40 issues featuring portraits of King Peter II, who was forced into exile in London, for postal use in their zone of occupation. King Peter eventually moved to the United States (where he died in 1970 at age 47). The stamps below from my Dad's philatelic materials are some of the overprints produced during the Italian occupation: the top two rows are Scott Yugoslavia N1-N8; the lower two rows are N18-N31. All but 1 stamp feature the Scott A16 portrait featuring an older Peter II. The 10d bright violet N29 in the second group features the portrait of the younger Peter II (Scott design A10), perhaps at about age 11.

Picked up these 'local issue' stamps recently. It was suggested to me that they were issued by partisans during the liberation of parts of Yugoslavia in 1945. As far as I can tell ... it doesn't look like it. The underlying stamps were issued by the Yugoslavian-government-in exile in London on December 1, 1943. They were printed by Waterlow & Sons, Ltd. in London. (Acquired by De La Rue in 1961) They mark the 25th anniversary of founding of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1918 and celebrate some prominent figures in Yugoslavian History and Culture. 1d – Valentin Vodnik: A Slovenian poet, writer, and priest, Vodnik is celebrated for his contributions to Slovenian literature and cultural identity. 2d – Petar II Petrović-Njegoš: A Montenegrin prince-bishop, poet, and philosopher, Njegoš is a national hero of Montenegro, known for his epic poetry that explores themes of heroism and the Montenegrin struggle for independence. 3d – Ljudevit Gaj: A Croatian linguist, journalist, and leader of the Illyrian movement, Gaj played a key role in promoting South Slavic unity and the Croatian language. 4d– Vuk Karadžić: A Serbian philologist and linguist, Karadžić is recognized for his work in reforming the Serbian language and creating the modern Serbian Cyrillic alphabet. 5d – Josip Juraj Strossmayer: A Croatian bishop and politician, Strossmayer advocated for South Slavic unity and was a major supporter of education and the arts in Croatia. 10d – Karađorđe (Đorđe Petrović): The founder of modern Serbia and leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire, Karađorđe is a symbol of Serbian independence. They are listed by Michel as Mi.Nr. 445-450. Michel, however, goes on to say that these stamps, with the '1945' overprint were never issued. I'm assuming, therefore, that the overprinted stamps should be more appropriately considered 'Cinderellas' than local issues. Not my area, however, so corrections and comments are very welcome. Does anyone know of any examples of them being used? In any event, interesting for their historical and political context.
