Those are some pretty nice examples! I have a face set of these, including the coils, tagged/untagged and perf varieties, but I haven't really delved into the endless varieties that exist. Something I might start to get into as my list of Canadian stamps that I need grows more elusive and expensive.

Are these endless varieties mentioned in Unitrade, or are we talking about truly specialist material here? (My Unitrade is a few miles away from me right now, so I can't check for myself...)

Only a hand full are listed in Unitrade. There are about 300 known printing varieties.

Robin Harris, the editor of the Unitrade catalogue has this to say about the number of varieties available on his website www.adminware.com. The 2013 Unitrade does contain a pretty comprehensive listing breaking the major numbers down by the design and format issued, with a number of varieties describing paper florescence, tagging types, and gum types. There are also listings for the various printer changes on a few issues and some of the common plate flaws. I think if you collected 'by the book' the result would still be well over 100 stamps from the 18 basic designs. If you search around the web for the centennial definitives there are forums, articles, study groups etc. that have images and descriptions for varieties that aren't in the Unitrade. There seem to be a lot of smaller, but consistent, plate varieties that the catalogue has overlooked.

Since I now know where to find the stack of stock cards, I dug out my pile of Centennials for a quick count. This is a batch that was essentially complete for the "standard" variations as of the time when it was put together according to the Darnell catalogue (maybe 15 years ago?). It includes the basic face different stamps plus format / perforation / tagging / paper fluorescence / gum / precancel varieties. I know there have been a few more discovered in recent years. It doesn't include any of the very rare stuff (imperforates, etc) nor does it include any plate varieties.
1c - 26 different 2c - 11 different 3c - 16 different 4c - 16 different 5c - 17 different 6c orange - 13 different 6c black - 27 different 7c - 6 different 8c small - 23 different 8c large - 4 different 10c - 10 different 15c - 8 different 20c - 6 different 25c - 5 different 50c - 5 different $1 - 5 different
Total: 198 different

Interesting to see a scan of the 6c orange forgery. I've seen it offered in auctions before but it always seemed to be one of those wedding invitations that went out with the forged stamp.

Right now I`m going through a bag of 8-10k of small 8c stamps. I`ve found a bunch of smaller dots but only 3 or 4 big dots. This one has a dot next to her cheek. It`s not a reported variety but it`s the second one I have found so it must be a constant variety:

This one is called `Dot Over Eyebrow`. It`s a reported variety. It`s not too hard to find, about one in 3,000.

This set was close to my giving up on Canada stamps. As a youngster I helped Mom with her U.S. and became overwhelmed by all those Washingtons with subtle differences.I chose to pursue Canada, then this set came out.by then I was in too deep to change course.I really did lose a lot of my zeal though and to this day modern Canada is just to keep the rest up to date.I believe I have just the perf.,and tagging varieties along with a couple errors.

I have never really delved into the Centennials. I have a pretty basic set, the main face values, examples of each value tagged and the coils. I might get into these yet, at they are pretty easy to come by on mass which can make for a cheap hunt for varieties. As of yet, I have spent most of my time pursuing Admirals, and recently Small Queens.

I dragged an eight pound box of Centennials down from an upstairs bedroom for my xmas present and spent the holidays sorting it out. I sorted it out into six values the newest of which is the six cent orange perf ten. Now I`m looking the six cent orange over and I`ve found a few varieties. Here`s one that I found that is new for me. A dot in the lower left corner. It`s a reported variety. Row7/10...straight edge at right.

Well...I`ve gone through a lot of stamps so far and this is the only one I have found...so I don`t think it serves a purpose.

Are those blinkies on the 2c centennial stamp actually constant? They are on the same positions on all panes of a particular location in the press sheet?
