Been playing around with ways to promote the forum. One was to insert a card into eBay sales etc. etc. Then I had a thought. Create a picture postage stamp and use it on mailings. I came up with design, I wanted something to relate to stamp collecting so I found a old world map and populated it with some stamps. They cost a bit more then regular stamps but I think its a nice way to promote the forum.

Don't forget you can make up the costs by selling used copies on eBay!

Don't forget you can make up the costs by selling used copies on eBay! That might be interesting to do. With eBay you never know what the outcome will be.

Jack, have you thought about adding the forum's URL? I've been following a slightly different (and less expensive) approach...I add one of these to the envelope everytime I make a sale on ebay.

A little tweaking The image is a screen grab so not as sharp and crisp as the stamp itself will be. Like to do a run of these and mail them out to a few lucky members. I will be doing a run of Kirby stamps as well

Jack, that looks great. But may I suggest you print one out at actual size - the size it would be as a postage stamp. I fear a lot of that stuff you have on there is going to be very small and difficult to read. From a design stand point sometimes simpler is better. Less is More, as they say. I often find at work when I'm designing something it looks great not he screen. But we always do printouts at actual size. It's surprising how different things can look.
Just sayin'

I have to have a little of the fly specking element to the stamp I putting in a order today for them. Maybe I will so a little series of them with different collecting themes. Only 25 of each will be printed so they will be rarer then a inverted Jenny

That looks great. Now what do we have to do to be one of the lucky 24 (I'm sure you'll keep one yourself)?

What if we buy a stamp at double Jack's cost so that he can buy two more sheets?

Rather than sending them to members, Jack should consider listing some or all of them on ebay and apply the proceeds to either more buying more of the stamps or meeting other forum operating needs. The added benefit would be increased exposure for the forum.

Perhaps a contest/giveaway for one or two, with the rest sold for funds?
(For myself, I would not enter, so that someone who collected these had a better chance at one.)

The added benefit would be increased exposure for the forum. A few will be used on mailing to members, some in a giveaway and some will be listed on eBay to gain some exposure. This batch is of 24, I intend to order another set of stamps with the proceeds. This will be a different design, I like to do a total set of 12 different stamps. This batch is in the P denomination, I may reorder the same design but in different values US/International. I think some of the future designs should be submitted by members, maybe a contest down the road.

Jack, you could also hold some singles back and let them loose every now and then in future live auctions - either auction them off, or use them as random giveaways for bidders & sellers like you did with the PayPal card a while back.
Ryan
edit - hmm, I see cjd said pretty much the exact same thing .... I'm too slow today, Spring Break holidays have already started for me, in Ohio now and off to South Carolina soon.

When is the next auction? Zipper probably in a couple of months. Have to let members save up the pennys. Once a month is a little to frequent for the size of the forum, maybe near the end of May

Excellent Jack! Looks great. You could easily get $10 a stamp, especially used examples.
