The USPS machines scan that to determine it's valid postage. I originally throught it might be a QR code, but I think all QR codes are square.

This is Travis. I found Travis last night while sorting through a box of stamps for my club. Someone loved Travis very much to honour him on a stamp. And it's no wonder, he's a very handsome young man!

The USPS machines scan that to determine it's valid postage. I originally throught it might be a QR code, but I think all QR codes are square. It's not 3D (rather 2D), and it's not QR. Actually, that thing on a Zazzle stamp is officially called IBI, despite that Zazzle email respondent: "Information-Based Indicia (IBI) refers to a secure postage evidencing standard used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to indicate electronic postage payment.[1] Information-Based Indicia is a 2-dimensional PDF417 or data matrix barcode combined with human-readable information. The barcode data contains such information as amount of postage, origin zip code, destination, mail class, weight, confirmation/tracking numbers, and a cryptographic signature. The human-readable information shows at a minimum the information required by the USPS Domestic Mail Manual (DMM).[1]" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information-Based_Indicia"the machine-readable postage indicia 7 will comprise 18 bytes of data and 2 bytes of encoder filler, structured according to the USPS Information Based Indicia Program IBI data dictionary format. IBI Data Dictionary and Indicia Types, Document version 5.2, USPS Information Based Indicia Program (IBIP), Sep. 29, 2003." www.google.com/patents/US7874593

Thanks very much for the extended response Dorin, Fabulous. I asked this question before on another forum years ago, and have lost the file. (Probably used a file name not easily recalled)
I'll save this under "chequerboard postmark" so I can retrieve it again later.

Hi! What do you think this is: 1- just a Cinderella, not valid for postage. 2- a meter stamp with an image. 3- a personalized stamp, valid for postage.

Backside of the folded card. I can cut the card in 2 anytime, if I want. For now, I don't. My non-traditional maximaphily allows collecting "as you want".

Due to copyright disputes, USPS stopped all personalized stamp programs in USA, in June 2020. đŸ˜¡ In UK it was stopped, too. But you can STILL design in over 60 other countries!

I'm surprised no one mentioned Canada's first customizable stamp! I don't have it, but here it is from the Unitrade catalogue:
Peel off a stamp from the booklet & then peel off a small round sticker of your choice and place in the white circle. Ta-da, a customized stamp!

2009, GrĂ cia, Barcelona, Catalonia. 55 years of a brick and mortar stamp shop. On the custom stamp, you can see a 1955 stamp, showing Our Lady of Montserrat (Catalonia's Patroness) the arms of the former town of GrĂ cia and a land mark of it, the non-religious belfry of GrĂ cia Town Square.

I received eight personalized stamp sheets from an eBay seller in England and I absolutely love them. Can't say whether the host countries allowed them to be used but that doesn't matter to me. Hats off to the person(s) who designed them. Two examples below.

At Colnect we have specific categories for Personalized stamps, that fall into two kinds Personalized-Official - this is when the Post Offices uses their personalized templates to create issues outside the normal stamp program to sell to collectors. Many countries do this and some are even catalogued in national specialized catalogues. colnect.com/en/stamps/countries/emission/27-Personalized_-_OfficialPersonalized-Private - these are the true "personalized" stamps produced by post offices for indivudial use and not sold to the general public. colnect.com/en/stamps/countries/emission/28-Personalized_-_PrivateOur current listings run to around 38,000 different items across the two categories, which of course is just the tip of the iceberg. We welcome any and all contributions of items that we currently do not list, with the hopes of making Colnect an authority on this fascinating world of philately that has arisen over the past two and a half decades.

Some of the terminology at those links posted by djcmh are a bit odd to an Englishman !! For curiosity I checked both the GB (UK?) issues and none are personalized. Some of them could be personalized, but examples of those were not shown. The other lot were locals and private posts not issued by the Post Office. With terminology being what it is, and not global, one could easily get confused when looking at lists like this. Is there a way to make it more clear for such countries. The 2 sheets from Israel are not personalized either. Interesting items though from other countries. I just wonder how many are personalized. Londonbus1

What country is the first one in your post? The second one is St.Kitts, and it might be legit. I received eight personalized stamp sheets from an eBay seller in England and I absolutely love them. There is another classification (did I say dichotomy?): - true personalized stamps - fixed stamp design from the Post, with personalized TAB. In UK, when the program was allowed, they were called Smiley.
