Great Britain Adverting Rings Wow! Beautiful stuff Zipper. Rarely seen. Thanks for posting. Also called "Advertising Collars" Your left hand set of 3, all look like they are "Printed matter" postmarks of GB But the bottom 1 ! It looks like a "Cracked Plate" 3d (Thruppence) which would date it from 16th-27th May 1867 ? My guess : its postmark "FS" = Foreign Section. "FB"=Foreign Branch Printed matter headed overseas. Gobble up some reading here gb-precancels.org/Embossed.htmlMint unused wrapper Grindlay collar, on Delcampe $190

I might suspect FB, Foreign Branch, on earlier Victorias?
By the way, great collars, zipper.

Thanks, guys. I'll change the name of the thread.
Thanks for the link, Rod.
Where do you see cracks? Are they at 1 o'clock and again at 3:30?
Which is more important -- the cracks or the cancel?

Hi Zipper, 3 o'clock is definitely a crack, 1 o'clock, not so sure, firstly I thought a "smudge" but that may be a crack also. I cannot call that one, and shall leave it up to the experts. Arghh. Looking at it again, 3 o'clock, the line does not go right across the collar. (so puts doubt on a crack) Perhaps 1 o'clock is the crack, and the unknown is 3 o'clock. Sorry to confuse. PS: The crack, I would assume to be more important to the specialist. The FB cancels are very common, albeit very rarely clear and distinct strikes.

Thanks, guys. I'll change the name of the thread. Thanks Zipper. Zipper, if I were you, I'd get out the loupe, or a magnifying glass, and note down the die dates on your collars. It appears to me you may have some new evidence, of unlisted dies I would then send the scan to Mr. Steve Panting for his valuable database. Of course, I could be mistaken, some of the dates are hard to read. Cheers Guessing: Left to Right, top to bottom 2-2-84 11-8-80 12-12-63 1-3-83

You want me to look at something tiny? Can't imagine I'll be successful but I'll give it a try.

You want me to look at something tiny? Can't imagine I'll be successful but I'll give it a try. Each stamp die, that goes with the collar, is dated, you can see numbers in little spaces in the design. The blue example is easiest, at the top is 12-12-63 it seems. Once we have established the correct numbers, you or I, can check them off against the database on that link. If any missing, you may have a new "find"

It seems that some have the crack at 1:00 only. That is an AR28.
The one with the 1:00 and the 3:00 are AR27.
Back to shopping, then will shut down and read the new book I got today.

Okay, Left to Right
2-2-84
15-3-80
12-12-63
Bottom: 1-3-75
Don't bet the bank on my old eyes. I wear bifocals, and haven't had a new prescription since 2004. (That's because the last time I went to the Eye Institute they drilled a hole in both my eyes.)

Middle of top row and bottom right have a plate crack at 1:30 and at 3:00. Middle to top row is W.H. Smith & Son cancel. Bottom left cancel is foreign Branch, and I think the left one on the upper row does too. Can't decipher the others.

Thanks. I'm a member of GBPS, and they have a PDF downloadable update, but it's useless without the original book. (That was the first place I went to buy it.) And Welcome! You're going to love it!
I found a copy, but it's $165 -- it's like being mugged. I'll just keep searching until I eventually find one.
