Great looking page renden !! I love pages like yours with that much air and free space on them, allows the stamps to breath. As a WW collector I've concluded I cannot allow myself that much space for all stamps of the world, if so I would need another house. So my pages are getting more densely populated. I acknowlege that decision is taking a toll on the aesthetics, but I can live with it....and I may continue to live in the same house as my wife Here's the result of my conquest with the Large Queens. If anyone observe any errors etc, I will appreciate it is pointed out, as I am not that seasoned on them yet. Click the pages for a somewhat better resolution. The first page is simply for the basic set, one of each value on the most common type of papers - ignoring shades, perforation varieties etc. And a small quadrille section to play with any curiosities I might find. (not expecting too much color on that quadrille tough....) The 2nd Large Queen page is dedicated for shades and perforation varieties on the most common paper types, horiz wove paper. The large queen pages 3 and 4 will be dedicated for the 2 different plates of the 6 cent value, but more importantly for some of the other paper types. I know I will never fill these pages - but it doesn't matter. I just like to have plenty of spaces for most of the varieties one is likely to find. I even included a space for 2c on laid paper - however just as inspiration not to give up the hunt! Keeping the hopes high for doing some fine discovery one nice day, even if not in the same league as the 2c laid paper

renden, I'm not a critic. I think it looks clean and classy though! I have moved my stamps off of the Custom Album pages and into Lindner Binders, having purchased a huge lot of Lindner album pages at Auction. I also find it is more flexible and I don't have to reprint album pages to add a new stamp as I sometimes did in the past. My Large Queen Collection pages look like this now:

Very, very impressive collection jimjung ! Are all of those on the first page with positive Bothwell watermarks? And loads of rarities most will never see. The block-of-6 is beyond grasp Simply awesome. Now - what was your street-address again ? And a great set-up to, more like an exhibition - showing only what you actually have, yet flexible with writeups in a 'moveable' format - clever. My Large Queen album pages are about the opposite - will mostly show loads of empty boxes for the stuff I do not yet have - and only a few boxes will actually be populated at this point That's ok for me, I am not aiming for exhibition pages or completion anyway, just find it handy to have spaces prepared and organized for whatever comes my way.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I added a mint 15 cent large Queen to my collection today. It was listed as a Unitrade 30b blue gray. It has the common 12 perforation and no watermark. This stamp joins 4 used 15 cent large Queens in various shades. I believe the one on the far left would be from the Unitrade 29 colour range, possibly grey violet. The second in line leans more to grey from the Unitrade 30 clan. The last 2 have blue tones and so also fits in with Unitrade 30 and are more convincing as 30b than the mint one I picked up.

hdm1950Very nice F-VF (my opinion only) 30b Large Queen - another to add to your collection. I only have a 30 VF and 30iv F (both used). I love the LQs and there are so many varieties !! Thanks for showing - René

Having been looking for the 1/2 penny large Queen perforated 11 1/2 X 12 (Unitrade 21a) for years. I ended up this week with a mint block of 4 with original glue. The bottom 2 were never hinged. Unitrade suggests certification is recommended for OGNH examples. The cost of doing so is prohibitive and they were bought well below catalogue value. I am not really into fly specking but I did take a quick look for known varieties and nothing jumped out at me.

What I collect: My main collecting area is focused on Canadian stamps printed from steel engraved plates. Specifically re-entries and constant plate varieties.

The Bottom Right stamp has a known flaw on it. There is "a dot in in the lower portion of the main body of the 'E' of 'Cent'" (Harrison), also listed in Lees-Jones' notes and is plate position 16. Information from THE LARGE QUEEN STAMPS AND THEIR USE, Second Edition, H. E. & H. W. Duckworth, Pg. 73. So this gives you plate positions for your stamps.

If you bought this on eBay, can I have the seller's Id please. Appreciate the info.

From Sismondo again. I am finding that this issue is worth collecting on it's own. A tremendous amount of information in this thread and some great collections! Got this at an auction and since I do not have a Duckworth cat, I assume it is correctly identified. There is no discernible watermark. If anyone has some additional information on this stamp, It would be greatly appreciated.
The question I have is how do you know it is Bothwell paper without the watermark?

The question I have is how do you know it is Bothwell paper without the watermark? (See previous post for images.) Roy, since you did not get an answer (I think) on your 3ç LQ, I sent some scans (by e-mail) of the type of paper found in LQs, based on a very good reference by Duckworth (The LQ Stamps of Canada and their use). Paper 6 (also mentioned briefly in Unitrade Canada Specialized) is described in detail (with or without the Clutha Mills Wmk)- Bothwell paper-. Its distinctive vertical ribbing and when held to the light a vertical pattern can be seen + other info- Your stamp is very close to this Paper 6, to my eyes but maybe a better scan would help. Hope you enjoy the info I sent to you. René

Last weeks purchases just in. I finally have a #23, and this one is a rare paper type. The #25s are not cancelled well but Duckworth #10 with a spare. I am not sure what the four digit number represents. It is from Sismondo so if anyone has dealt with this please let me know. Looks like a grading to me, but that is a guess.

sudbury12000 I love seeing Large Queens. I have been philatelic friends with some of the major collectors and exhibitors of this series. I believe the numeral cancel on the 1c Yellow is a 6, not a nine. Unless I am misreading the cancel. Note the circular void in the 2 rings which encircle the numeral. Its location is at the bottom of the 6s and 9s. Thus this should be a numeral 6.

Any idea on the 4 digit numbers? One possibility is that they are thicknesses in mm. The '(0.095 - 0.098)' notation sounds like it could be a thickness range (roughly .0038"), and the 4 digit number lines up with those numbers if you ignore the decimal point. That's a fairly thick paper, for what it's worth, you'd want to confirm that before you believe my guess! Why Sismondo would use mm rather than inch is a question, though, as I think his selling market was more US & Canada than overseas. US collectors would likely want inch measurements, Canadians could maybe tolerate either, although older Canadians will be the majority of a stamp dealer's customers, and who knows, maybe people that old are still complaining about the change of our flag in 1965 ... ===== edit - well, a nice guess, but wrong. Your previous post shows a similar glassine, and although the paper thickness there is specifically given mm units, the 4 digit number has nothing to do with that thickness. Oh well, at least the thickness part is cleared up. Ryan

There is a weave that is in a diamond shaped pattern on the Large Queen issue (and other issues as well). For Bothwell paper, the diamonds are longer vertically. This is called vertical weave. For normal wove paper, the diamonds are longer horizontally. This is a horizontal weave. The watermarks only appear on Bothwell Paper, Pirie Paper and Stitch Watermark paper. The last two are Rare. Bothwell paper with watermark is scarce.
I believe the four digit number is just an inventory number from the seller. Paper measurements on Large Queen stamps run between .0020 and .0045 and typically are .0030 to .0035. The lower and higher numbers are for thin and thick papers.
