Yeah, I ordered a more powerful magnifier yesterday, but the post office won't get it to me until July. I'll check again once it arrives.
Is it possible to scan it and enlarge it and see it on a computer monitor? I've heard of people scanning and enlarging their stamps. Just don't know how much quality the image loses, if any...

We have people on this site who scan at 1200 dpi and you can see every little thing. But I'm a fan of my digital microscope, if only because the image is immediate, rather than waiting for my scanner to grind its gears (and as it's an older scanner, it grinds for quite a while ...). You can read this older thread and see an image that other users posted from both scanners and digital microscopes (as well as reading some more about other magnifiers), and in this older post I have a couple of images showing how much detail I can see with my digital microscope. And apart from stamp use, the microscope is fun to play with other things too, everything from currency to fabric to dead bugs! Ryan

Thanks Ryan. I read the entire thread. I'm going to mess with my scanner and see what I can do with it.

I posted this on the textile thread...but I'll add the scan here. This is as good as it gets for now, unless you guys have ideas for improvement? "The largest I could scan it was 600 dpi without getting a dialog box telling me I had to turn off "Correct Skew Document", whatever that is, or reduce resolution or scale of the image. So I took the scan and put it into my photo editing program (Photoshop Elements), enlarged it as big as I could without losing definition, and looked at the sucker through my 10x magnifier. I cannot find any engraver's mistakes in the lower left corner block. And I cannot see double lines that would indicate re-entry, but I do see thick lines that might be double lines if zoomed in on further. This is the lower left stamp of the lower left block." What do you think? What Scott number/variety is this?

(I use ACDSee , open my scan and save it as is, and the size drops automatically to around 250Kb [*.jpg images]) You may wish to stick a page of Black soft Craft paper to the lid of the scanner, all images then will amply show your perforation teeth. and give your scans a black background. Depends on your own personal taste.

Thanks Rod. I'll have to find some black craft paper. I took the block out of my Vario page because I find the Vario sometimes reflects white on my scanner. I prefer the black background myself.

Here are some closeups of the variety that I scooped off eBay. I don't think the stamp you scanned has this variety.

I've actually decided to switch to answering on the textile thread in topical stamps. Not sure how to do internal links...just a minute... Theme: Textile StampsI'll cross link to this thread from there. Hopefully that will keep the information together somewhat? But I will post about the textile industry issue on the Textile Stamps thread from here on.
