Mmm...I had to join to get the detailed listings of the stamps in my subject area. I'm not a stamp club member yet, and have to wait till fall to become one. Our memberships here run from September to September. I'm not sure the club has access to the ATA lists anyways. Be that as it may, Vera did say she'd have them out to me by last evening and I've yet to receive them. I'm hoping she's just a busy lady. I was told it would take one to two weeks to process my credit card information. Apparently not too many people pay that way. They have it set up for Paypal, but I am unhappy with Paypal at the moment, as I prefer to use my card and they insist on taking money direct from my bank account. Understood, yet, I am of the opposite persuasion, I am not comfortable with giving out my card details. I have only one credit card (4.75%) which is hardly used, Only employed around Christmas when Car / House / insurance bills come in all at once, and I smooth the payments. I run two bank accounts, a "mojo" account for random expenses, never gets above $300, and a Saver account for my interest bearing. Paypal takes from my Mojo account, and for two years the deposits / debits have worked flawlessly.

Hmm...I tried to do that Steve and got a message saying "This method of payment is not available to you at this time" or something very similar.
Rod, thanks for that idea. I might have to set that up.

I might have to set that up. If your two accounts are linked, Jean, you can go online and whip money into your mojo account in seconds, from your saver account, and vice versa. My saver account has a protection, any withdrawals cannot be made without a number texted to me by the bank.

Rod, I'm going to have to chat with the bank first about this. Currently I only have a chequeing account through that bank. I run all my Paypal through it - business and personal. Primarily because my business is still in its infancy and not earning a lot. Artists don't. But last time I checked I get charged a dollar for every EFT I do (electronic Funds Transfer) which is what paying Paypal is. I just had a situation where I had to refund some money and I am waiting to see if I am charged the EFT fee on that money before progressing any further with PayPal being connected to my bank account. I may just disconnect my bank account period.

(albeit, I am retired, so I do get benefits that others don't) but surely you can get a fee free EFT account. One has to shop around. Took me 12 months to find a credit card company as low as 5%, but they are out there. Australia has Banking links where one can weigh up the pros and cons of each Bank, hopefully you can find one in your locale. I havn't been inside a bank for years, everything in Oz today, can be done and paid electronically.

This is the only bank within walking distance of me and we have one car hubby takes to work. It's not the best bank, but it is the only option I have for banking if I want to do business. So back to the topic of the thread. The textile stamp I posted the close up of is O38 plate 1, right? I'm checking my Unitrade catalog on this. Plate 2 had the engraver's slip. Am I correct? ETA: I just did a google search for this stamp and apparently I have O38a. The "G" overprint is a skinny "G", not a fat one. Not listed in Unitrade. Anyone have any idea where I would find this listed and a value for it?

I think this textile stamp is O38a, but not sure. It's a flying 'G' on a plate block that clearly says "No.1 503". And from what I find online, the flying G didn't come into use as an overprint until 1961. The stamp itself came out in 1953-55 according to Unitrade. Now I am really confused. Did some government agency stash these old stamps and overprint them 8 years after issue for government use? Hmm...

Look into Canada Post Visa card They have one that's prepaid, that's what I use on PayPal. This way if card gets hacked its only the money that's been deposited to the card goes missing. You can load the money at the post office. I understand your worries with PayPal I had a few bad experiences both as a buyer and seller. rod222 PayPal here in Canada takes a few days to deposit money from bank to PayPal, I don't think you can make a payment and have the funds directly taken from bank account

Thanks Jack. I'll ask about that prepaid Visa card. By the way, I did discover the listing for my textile stamp variety in Unitrade. It's just on a different page from the rest of the listing for some reason. It *is* O38a.

Also received my topical lists already from the ATA. Vera's quick! I'd be interested on the number of Textile Themed stamps they have, when you have them. Textiles? From Rod's useless Information Compendium. IIRC there are only 3 stamps in the world featuring Thimbles Korea, US, and Sweden Tete-beche thematic : Stamps on Thimbles

8D Love the thimbles, though perfectly useless for real sewing. I didn't buy any of the textile lists with clothing/costume/fashion in them because that is not my current interest. Once I flush out this textile theme a bit I may expand into that area, but not right now. So... I have the Bayeux Tapestry list, the tapestry list, the embroidery-stitchery-sewing list, the spinning wheel list, the textiles-lace list, and the weaving list. That's 25 pages of stamps listed in pdf format with no numbering beside them. Assume 30 issues to a page. Lots to work with! If I had bought the clothing/costume/fashion lists I would have had thousands of stamp issues to collect/choose from. I believe clothing/fashion alone had 1200 issues listed.

I'd be interested on the number of Textile Themed stamps they have, when you have them. The link I posted earlier contains counts of the numbers in every thematic stamp category - that's how they determine pricing for the lists, it's based on the number of stamps. There are actually two different lists the ATA publishes, one is sorted by subject type and the other is alphabetical. ATA list of topics - ordered by subject typeATA list of topics - ordered alphabeticallyRyan

Thanks Ryan. I was in a rush preparing supper when I posted. Just gave a ballpark figure. Depending how far in-depth I want to go on each stamp I think I have plenty to work with. Mind you, I'm only in my mid-fifties. Could be lots of time yet! And lots of stamps to go... I'm already branching out into the Colorano silk FDCs for Canada.

Thanks for the link and the read! Interesting they were only produced for about 20 years for Canada. I bought several on e-bay not long ago that were from the late '70s. They sure look a lot better than the Canada Post variety from the late '70s.
I wonder if there has been any fabric stamps other than the recent $5 Canadian flag?...

Jack, I honestly didn't think I'd post that much here. I'm on several stamp forums, but this one seems the most like home. Thanks for being so friendly everyone. And a big hand to the ladies of SORLA who recommended TSF to me.

Jean, Switzerland has a sewn stamp, I think I recall James Collin posted a smashing scan of it here, somewhere. (Edelweiss)

I wonder if there has been any fabric stamps other than the recent $5 Canadian flag?... Have a look at this page - it shows quite a large number of stamps printed on / made from some sort of fabric. I have a couple of those; a gifted Italian yearbook (from a non-stamp-collecting friend!) came with the Italian embroidered stamp, and somewhere I also have the old East German stamp printed on synthetic fibre, but I couldn't find that one on a quick look through my piles of stuff. It has an odd plastic feel to it, it doesn't feel like a cloth. Do you know those high-end plastic tea bags? It feels sort of like one of those. I took a shot zoomed in to the fabric of the Italian stamp with my digital microscope. Ryan

rod222, I would swear I've seen that stamp listed in the Shimomura revenue catalog, but a sweep through it now (admittedly more quickly than I would've liked) did not reveal it at this time. The only sliver of knowledge I can bring to the stamp is that "-Ken", when it's a suffix like that, means "prefecture", so that's Fukui Prefecture. One other small remark is that, at the top of the stamp, it looks like that blank space was intended for a lot number, because the character at the far right (so I'm referring to the printed character in the top right corner, 第) sort of behaves like "#" would for us, and, at that time, characters would have been read from right to left. (Off the top of my head, I'm afraid I don't know what the character at the top left means.)
