Alrighty! My first post with pics. Wish me luck! Last year (2015), Canada Post issued two stamps commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag. There was a normal "Permanent" rate stamps and then....THIS: An oversized $5.00 "souvenir sheet" (big like a souvenir sheet but with only one big stamp.) Click the image for a larger version. What's neat about the stamp is that it's woven out of flag material. Here's the Canada Post press release on the issue. Here's a close up of the weave. Mark

Great scans Rod! Thanks! More to add to my list... I've found the ATA lists a good starting place. But I'm definitely having to sort through everything to highlight the ones I want. I'm crossing lots off the list. My interest is definitely in the area of handmade textiles. I'm not that interested in textile mills I've found, though I did buy a couple stamps of mills this past weekend at the local stamp show. Shouldn't have, but it was the excitement of the moment to find *anything* related to textiles. I didn't think this would be that difficult, but seemed whenever I got to the numbers for my handmade textiles, they were non-existent. I've given specific instructions to one vendor who will be back in June. Hoping to pick up some serious booty then.

I don't really understand you Topical collectors however, from my experience, the longer you persevere with the discipline, the deeper you go. So, save those "Mills" stamps, one day later you may decide to expand. I have read many a post, where collectors regret selling or passing off their stamps. Plonk 'em in an envelope , bottom drawer . I have some scans of ideas in "Topical collecting" somewhere, if I find them, I'll post them, it may give you some direction in which to travel, or ideas on layout. Really, it should be never ending, you can focus parts on Cotton? or perhaps delve into Thai Silk etc............. Tread your own path, Happy hunting.

Thanks Rod. I intend to "tread my own path". I'd love to see what you have on topical collecting. It's still new to me at the moment. And layout ideas are definitely needed. I am storing everything in Vario pages right now, but I'd like to do a more substantial layout with text eventually.

A couple of articles from Aussie lasses, on Thematics, take from it, what you will. Hope this offers some ideas. Example : the conundrum, excessive write ups / insufficient information.

Germany PERFIN on 1924 German Eagle. (The Perfin format alludes to this enterprise, however "on piece" required, as the perfin is not unique to this company. Kohlstedt & Crone, Duisburger Buntweberei [ textile color weaving company in Duisburg ] (Duisburg, 1926-1929) (Researcher : Postmaster GS)

I’ve been reviewing this old thread and realized how much my textiles collection has changed. I have added quite a bit to it. Lately I’ve received these beauties from an overseas seller. I’m particularly fond of the Aland Islands spinning wheel (#154) and Lithuanian spinning wheel stamps, both MNH. Loving the large Russian embroidery stamps and the lace stamps from East Germany and Slovenia too. Also MNH. The Aland Islands stamp is actually part of a series on furniture decoration. To this day spinners often paint designs on their wheels. The stamp designer is Anki Williams. The engraver was the Finnish company Setec Oy. The Netherlands Antilles stamp (#154) showcases what appears to be pulled thread work. I’ve never seen a stamp with that depicted on it before!

Here are what look like CTOs, but interesting lace stamps nonetheless. From Czechoslovakia, East Germany, and Poland. The Finnish stamp is not a CTO. It is a stamp of a handwoven hand towel. I have the others in that series. This is a traditional style of handwork. These, and the previous post’s stamps, are my current research projects.
