Thought I’d add these embroidered stamps I received recently. Very big stamps. More novelty items than anything. The top photo are Austrian stamps. The bottom photo are Liechtenstein stamps. The six inch ruler gives you an idea of size. The green Edelweiss (#2585) was put out in 2005. In 2008 it’s partner, #2811, the blue flower, appeared. Followed by the petit point stamp (#2930) in 2010. In 2015 the lederhosen stamp (#3267) followed. And yes, there is a perf count on those! It’s 7.5. In 2016 the dirndl was featured as a stamp commemorating national costume (#3321). And finally, in 2018 the Styrian hat (#3457) was produced. Austria seems to have a penchant for trying new ideas with postage and stretching boundaries. They also produced a stamp made of cork at one point! The Liechtenstein stamps are #1997 “PE recycling”, designed by Peter Vogel, and #1939, also designed by Peter Vogel, for the 300th anniversary of the principality of Liechtenstein. The latter is almost as big as the palm of my hand!

Although polarbear /s stamps are made of textile and thus, a whole different level, I would add the two stamps that first came to my mind when reading this thread’s title.
They come from the United Arab Republic, as the short-lived union between Egypt and Syria was known, and were released merely eight months after its establishing on the 1st of February 1958.
Scott C12 and C13 commemorate the Aleppo Cotton Festival, held annually in that Syrian city. While browsing the net for further info, I found this short video by British Pathé showing the opening of that year’s festival. Enjoy!
P.S. I am aware many more stamps on the same topic were released in the following years, but I find those two more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
P.P.S. Aleppo’s cotton industry might be related in more than one way to the postal history, as the city’s traders, along with those of Smyrna, Alexandria, Constantinople and to a lesser extent Thessaloniki, were the real Levantine power house, so they must’ve generated enough correspondence with customers from all over the world.

Probably the first stamps printed on textile, issued March 12th,1963. The ungummed s.s. was printed on "Dederon". Dederon was the answer of the DDR (GDR) to Nylon and Perlon. The name was introduced as a trade-mark in 1959. Dederon is a synthetic onomaopoeic word build from D(e)D(e)R - on.
(what a strange word: "onomaopoeic".In German it is "lautmalerisch",translated word by word: painted with (by) sound. Sounds poetic doesn´t it ?

A recent set of stamps showing traditional Guatemalan textile patterns. Many of these are re-issues from similar stamps in 2015, but differ in the printer's signature.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Yeah. Very busy with rug hooking stuff. Had considerable angst getting a Shopify website set up by a web developer stateside. In the end I did most of the work myself. Took a lot of time. Also started a Ko-fi site for my rug hooking. And found a gallery to represent me and sell my work. I’ve been busy hooking for shows and living my alternate life. 😊. Stamp money has been going to a new printer, new scanner (I bought a V600!), a wireless mic, two web cams, and assorted other technology and apps (to be able to provide decent videos for my rug hooking friends).

I have been Christmas shopping for myself recently. I picked up a few more Canada #334 (the textile industry stamp from 1953), an air mail cover that went Registered mail with it in use, and the poster (in French) announcing the issue. I'm going to try translating it, but you all may have to help me. My French is not that good, despite 12 years of butchering it in the Canadian school system! The remainder of the bag of 100 #334 stamps I ordered for $3 CAD for a lark...fun with cancels. These are all square cancels or lined cancels. Tell me why I should keep them? I'm thinking of passing these on. These are all the circular cancels. I'm thinking of keeping these for a closer look. I'm going to have fun studying this cover. And the aforementioned announcement poster for the stamp issue. I am going to give this a whirl. I think it says...
On the 2 November 1953, the Minister of Post...the stamp reproduced... ...The new stamp is 50 cents. I have no idea what the last sentence in the first paragraph says... something about petroleum exploitation in Canada? Design by M.A.L. Pollock, an industrial artist in Toronto, the new stamp was engraved and printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company of Ottawa. The principle design figure, on the left is a a spinning wheel...on the right... Then something about the textile industry. The new stamp is green. Published with the authorization of the honorable Alcide Cote, CR, MP, Minister of Posts. Any help with translating the above is appreciated.

polarbear November 2, 1953, the Postal Ministry will issue this postal stamp as reproduced. The new stamp of 50¢, of ordinary issue, will replace the present stamp that shows the importance of Oil Industry in Canada (294 Oil Wells- 1950) Designed by M. A. L. Pollock, Industrial Artist from Toronto, the new stamp will be engraved and printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company of Ottawa. The design, on the left, shows an antique spinning wheel at work, with emphasis on the tradition on which is based the Textile Industry. The new stamp will be green. Published under the authorisation of the Hon............... This is the best I can do !! René - A textual translation would not sound good...my opinion

I accept the Thank You but this is the best I can do - my brother, Jean- Pierre, Owner-Editor-Printer of Le Madawaska , a local but big french-speaking Newspaper (owned by my late dad Jean-Louis and my Grand Father Gaspard (1923)...so 3rd generation - bought by the gigantic IRVING group some years ago - JP would give you a better translation but I have not submitted the document as he is presently in the middle of Hip replacements etc (not well). These are all square cancels or lined cancels. Tell me why I should keep them? I'm thinking of passing these on. Jean ( polarbear ), I would encourage you to consider treating these square cancels as you have the circular ones.
Place them on a Vario sheet and see what they look like; it might make for an interesting page in your collection. At the same time, as the stamp was issued on 02 November 1953, keep an eye open for early date cancels, small towns or perhaps even an Railway Post Office (RPO) cancel. You never know what you might find when you start to look :-)
In the meantime, here is an webpage from "Postal History Corner" blog that could be of interest - 1953 Textile Definitive
Have fun and happy collecting!

Cool! 😎 hrdoktorx! These days I’ve been focusing in on Canada 334 and acquiring any material related to it. I am also acquiring other textile stamps from the USA and Canada. I have a few machine embroidery ones from Austria that look kind of like this, but nothing actually made out of plastic!

What a cute souvenir sheet hrdoktorx ! Thank-you for bringing it to my attention. I’m in the middle of tax season, a cold and final preparation of a hooked rug series of wall hangings for the gallery. I keep checking in here. Love it when someone adds a new stamp or idea to this thread!
