Greetings all,
Thank you for letting me join this group of like-minded folks. As a recently retired seafarer and having travelled the world; I developed a taste for bringing home souvenirs. Many of the goodies I brought home were either Coins and/or Postage Stamps. So, in one shape or another, I have been collecting for many years.
Now with more time to focus on a collection, better resources and a clear idea on where I want to go, I am concentrating on stamps from the 1911 - 1951 era of Canadian philatelic studies. I particularly enjoy the following topics:
Military/War related materials; Politics; Canadian Landmarks Canadian Icons (Maple leaf, beavers, geese Etc,)
I also enjoy reading about the "why" a certain stamp was designed and produced. I try to remain focused on definitive Stamps, much like my coin collection is mostly circulation coins.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you'll be able to show us some of your stuff. There's plenty here to look through, but here's a particular thread that might be of interest to you - one of our members has written an exhibit on Canadian War Tax stamps. Click here to have a look at it. Ryan

Hi Marc
Where are you in NS? I am from Bangor.
Ahhh,LL Bean. From what I hear it's not what it used to be. I still have, after 40 years, a couple of their flannel shirts. Cannot button them but they are still nice and warm.
For those who don't know, the Freeport, Maine store has no locks on the doors and is open 24/7, 365 /366 days (that includes Christmas day). I believe I read somewhere that the only time they closed the doors was the day of Mr. Bean's funeral.

I have a old LL Bean sleeping bag, must be 50 years old. Came across it in a old hunting lodge I was working in, wool lined and waterproof canvas on the outter shell, Stuffed with duck/goose down feathers. Big and bulky and heavey but I sleeped in it out doors in -20 and was nice and warm, horray for warm sleeping bags. The modern ones with gortex and space age fillers are just as warm but I like my old age beaten wool lined bag

Hi Jack
Did not know they closed for JFK also.
In New Jersey was Morsan Tent Company. I had, not anymore, 2 Morsan down bags and one of their mountain tents. Sleeping bags built like an LL Bean but a little lighter and just as bulky. I still have the tent but it has been in it's bag for a least 30 years. Afraid to take it out as it probably will fall apart. Made of heavy waterproof canvas and was pretty heavy for a small 2 man tent. Used it for many a day in the NY Adirondacks and the Maine woods.

Jerry B, I live in a small farming community called Stewiacke, about 40 miles North East of Halifax. And I won't leave the driveway without my LL Bean rucksack in the back of my truck...

Hi Marc
I see that now there are stores in Bangor and Ellsworth. In my days there was one, Freeport and the factory was across the street (nice outlet store if you knew about it). I assume you drive to Yarmouth and take the Bar Harbor Ferry across and then drive over to Ellsworth. I've only taken the Ferry once. The seas were pretty rough and waves were breaking over the deck. I used to go to the coast, around Lunenburg, by driving through Brunswick and then over. I probably went through Stewiacke as I drove to Halifax first.
