This set of six common design types (CD93-98) depict French General Jacques-Phillippe LeClerc's World War II march from "Chad to the Rhine" (Scott C12-C17). A short biography of LeClerc may be viewed here.

This set of six common design types (CD93-98) depict French General Jacques-Phillippe LeClerc's World War II march from "Chad to the Rhine" (Scott C12-C17). A short biography of LeClerc may be viewed here. This is one of my very favourite colonial series. Identical stamps were issued for 15 of the French colonies.

The airmail issues of the "London Series" (YT #PA26-27), as for Guadeloupe, only consist of two stamps of the high nominal values, issued in 1945.

I 've long thought that this group of 1947 Guyane definitives and airmails from the set were exquisitely engraved. Many French colonial airmails from this era were large format and very attractive. Rob
