What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

No Greenland stamps posted here yet - better fix that. My favourite stamp from Greenland was never issued. OK, it sort of was, 70 years after the fact. In 1932, a set of three essays were created as a draft for the first stamps to be issued for Greenland. They never proceeded past the draft stage, and in 2001 (timed for release during the Hafnia 01 international exhibition in Copenhagen) a set of stamps was released showing these essays. The souvenir sheet issued at the time was entitled "The stamps that were never issued", and this fine seal is the one I like the best. Ryan

I really like Greenland stamps. There are still a lot missing in my collection, but this is one of my favorites. Normally, I only collect used stamps, but for souvenir sheets that's quite a challenge. Of this one i only managed to find the lowest value postally used.

Gorgeous definitive issue issued February 1st, 1945, later overprinted in what I call a scam... they'll have to wait until some other time to be added to my collection. Its pretty much complete from the 1935-6 Thule issues through 1996. I'll be adding 1997-9 in the short term. But that's it. Postal rates kept climbing & with it prices! I just can't see spending that much money. I noted the Greenland Post Office sells year packs back to 2014. But with those ranging from $130 to $180, I'll pass! $180 for one year? For Greenland? Just too much for my budget. I collect too many other things to spend it all on that. These stamps were mounted a couple months ago now. I have refined & improved info of the stamps on later issues.

Gorgeous definitive issue issued February 1st, 1945, later overprinted in what I call a scam... These stamps were actually overprinted twice. The second set of overprints was part of a block set, shown below:

PAKKE-PORTO - Parcel Post Stamps
Due to the increase of parcels transported between Denmark dnd Greenland the KGH (Den Kongelige Grønlanske Handel) started in 1905 to ask for some compensation for this service. They wanted to implement a fare to cover at least some of their costs. KGH was not allowed to issue their own stamps, but they were allowed to issue parcel stamps for the transport between Copenhagen and Greenland and inside Greenland. This started on May 1,1905, the stamps were available from July 14, 1905. Until 1930 the taxes were very low. The fare for 5kg was only 10Øre. In 1930 this was changed to 190 Øre. Pakke-Porto was in-valuated in 1938 and replaced by Danish and Greenland stamps. The original drawing was made in spring 1905 by the danish artist Gerhard Heilmann. This drawing was used for 16 of the 18 issues. Only Nr. 13-14, the so called Lachmann print, was made in offset print using a slightly different drawing.
Years ago these stamps were relatively available but a surge in demand for parcel post/carrier stamps have made these rare and expensive

I only have one or two of the "pakkeporto" stamps. On a recent auction I bought two stock books with stamps from Greenland. But there was a lot of duplication. (away on Christmas holyday now so I can't show pictures)

The Red Cross kliche's of the Thule Local Post issues Kliche 1 Nr. 049396 I have been looking for information on these sheets, but have found very little.
Apparently 8 "cliche's" were used in the original printings of these stamps from 1935-1936. Cliche's were what they used to call printing plates, if I am correct in my assumptions. Just comparing two of the cliche's by overlapping them shows little if any differences between the two, a tiny spot of ink here or there is all I have seen so far. it will take a while before I can compare all 8 of them with my original Thule Locals. There aren't any obvious differences, and it looks like fly-specking is the way to go with these sheets. Some day I may be able to identify my originals.
I also wonder about pricing of these sheets. I noticed Jay Smith sells the 8 sheets for $120US, whereas I bought them at a considerably cheaper price. Things that make me go, "hmmm..."!

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I know that another member has shared this set on this thread before but I am posting mine more in relation to a problem with my set. I love it so was beaming when I acquired it in a job lot once. My smile disappeared though when I realized the ivory border was not normal but what would appear to be a humidity issue causing the discoloration. I am assuming that reversing this is impossible without disturbing the glue. It would appear that the glue is what yellowed and transferred to the paper. It is a never hinged set

Two sheets from Greenland/ Kalaallit Nunaat commemorating Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen expeditions
Firstly, from 2003, a label and two stamps for the Centenary of the Danish Literary Expedition to Greenland, 1902-1904. Led by Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen with Harald Moltke, Knud Rasmussen, Jørgen Brønlund, and Alfred Bertelsen. The aim was to conduct ethnographic field research among the polar Inuit and, in particular, to record their songs and legends.
The second sheet from 2014 commemorates Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen's next expedition, The Denmark Expedition 1906-1908. Mylius-Erichsen undertook and carried out the task of exploring and charting the entire coastline of unknown northeast Greenland. Being misled by existing but inaccurate maps would cost the lives of Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen, Jørgen Brønlund and Niels Peter Høeg Hagen in 1907.

Greenland issues from 1987 Two from the Birds set, two Hafnia 87 sheets, Greenland Art and Fishing, Dealing and Whaling Industries Year. The middle two depicting Local Craft Artefacts were first issued in 1986 but these are dated 1987 and so must be reprints.

I never knew about the tagging either. I just knew of the white or yellow phosphorescent coating on the paper. Is that what you mean, Terri? (philatelia )

Finally! The last sets needed to finish my regular Greenland BOTH mint and used arrived today. Cool! Complete except for polar bear parcel issues and new issues which I only purchase years later in collections at greatly reduced prices. I think I’m complete through 2017 though. There are a few color varieties for the American issues plus a few definitive paper varieties that I don’t have. A collection is never really complete, there are always ways to “frost the cake” so to speak.

Have you found any of the yellowing my set has of the mint copies you have come across of this set?

Here are the backs of three of my high values from the sets. Yes - the gum does appear dark on my copies.
