Got this yesterday. Pretty nondescript, but I rarely see OHMS stamps on cover.

Nothing at all, cjd. I don't know where it was mailed from - there are no markings on the back. Looks like a cork carved moon crescent, but you'd think, if this was sent in the 1940s, that would be a little late for such a crude obliterator, especially on a piece of government mail.

Here's a follow up to this one. I sent the cover to the BNAPS Fancy Cancel and Miscellaneous Markings study group, and their fearless leader David Lacelle was incredibly kind and generous in responding and trying to help me figure this one out. He included the cover in the December 2015 issue of their newsletter, with some ideas, and asked for input from other members. Mr. Bill Pekonen responded recently with a history on these, and between the two of them, I was able t put this cover onto a very informative album page. Many many thanks to both gentlemen. I hope they don't mind my posting their info here, but I think this is a teachable moment for all of us. Dave and Bill, if you are members of the forum, I just want to let you know I really appreciate your responses and your assistance. Cheers, and Happy New Year!
