LB1 has auctioned off some lovely stuff. I hope his proposed trip to Gb will also bring all of us lots of goodies!
I notice that the fee on that pigeon is 1/-...seems pretty steep for those days!

The only representative of Herm Island in my collection is this sad little example. At least it appears legitimately used.

Here's a few from the Maps series' that haven't been shown yet. Some of these Herm Island issues are quite nice.

Here are some early Herm Island locals.
Firstly, an original Pigeon Post flimsy that would have been used in 1949 for urgent messages to Guernsey. The messages would have been inserted into tubes and strapped to the pigeons' legs, this is an unused example. A radio telephone was installed later that year so it was no longer an urgent service. The next example is dated 14th November 1952 using a slightly different system of an envelope with a punch hole but by that time, it was more of a souvenir item.
The next set is the Crest Issue of 1954. Probably because the six pence was too similar in colour to the eight doubles, it was re-issued in orange.
Finally one of the set of five for the 1957 issue: Neolithic Man.

A few more stamps from Herm and a Last Day Card.
Firstly, imperforate proofs for the 1969 Final Definitive Issue
Then we have the Final Definitive stamps again, this time perforated, but overprinted for the the UK 1971 Strike Post for Southampton. Probably Rushstamps
Finally, a Last Day Card for 30th September 1969 when Herm ceased using local stamps and began using the postage stamps of Guernsey.
