My main topical collection is Birds on stamps. It mostly stored on stock sheets, but I have attempted a couple of pages of an album. My preferred birds are kingfishers, so here is a bit about knigfishers.

Beautiful pages, perfs14! I am not a topical collector (at least not yet), but I happen to have some images of birds on stamps that I'd like to share.

Here is a pane of the State Birds and Flowers issue of April 14, 1982. These tagged, perf. 10.5 x 11.25 stamps, designed by Arthur and Alan Singer, were printed photogravure (Andreotti) from plates of 200 subjects in four panes of 50 (Scott 1953-2002). Sheets of this issue that were perf. 11.25 x 11 were assigned Scott numbers 1953A-2002A.

Here is a bird that many in my country hold near and dear. This perf. 10 stamp, printed by photogravure and issued August 12, 1983 in booklet panes of 3, features an Eagle and the Moon.

No topic on birds should fail to mention some of the most beautiful bird 'stamps' ever issued:The US Hunting licence stamps. It is indeed ironic that these were issued (by the US Fish and Wildlife service or previously the US dept. of Ag.) for the specific purpose of allowing people to kill the very birds they portray. Still, that's the 'glass is half empty view. The glass is half full view would consider the stamps as a way of limiting the number of birds being eliminated, and thereby conserve them. Whichever is the view you like; the stamps are very attractive for the most part, especially the earlier issues. I only own one, the scan below shows it next to one of Australian definitive issues to show its relatively large dimensions:(BTW it was a gift as these are not cheap ~ $45)

No topic on birds should fail to mention some of the most beautiful bird 'stamps' ever issued:The US Hunting licence stamps... In the U.S., hunting permit stamps were authorized by a 1934 Act of Congress to license hunters. Receipts from their sale go to maintain waterfowl in the U.S. (perfs14's the glass half full). Hunting permit stamps are valid from July 1 through June 30. The sale of the permit stamps to collectors was legalized June 15, 1935. Below is the $2 emerald stamp for 1957 (Scott RW24).

The Federal ducks really are nice to look at!
The first page of the collection, alone, cataloged $725 for no gum stamps in 2011 -- and several times that for stamps with original gum.
