We're already in 2020, but I'm still getting some more of the 2019 Europa bird issues, here the Belgian one, as a block, featuring the oak jay and European oriole:

Thanks Ryan for sharing the two bird websites as part of @ppareek's introduction; websites likes those are invaluable as they serve as a checklist, or at least they do for me, as to what I could or should be collecting for a given particular theme and my interests.
In this case, Birds on Stamps! and the example of the Snares Penguin that appears on only two issues to date and both are "captured" here,
New Zealand Issue 1991 (Michel No. 1951)
Snares penguins, Eudyptes robustus or Snares Islands penguins as they are also known, are crested penguins that stand approximately 50-60 cm and weigh about 3-4 kg; with the male have a substantially heavier bill than the female.
Tradewind Sub-Antarctic Cruise Local Mail Label - The Snares More information on the Dutch-built Tradewind Schooner can be found on its wikipedia page here.
Soviet Union (USSR) Fauna of Antarctica Set (Michel No. 4742)
This particular version shows offset printing on gummed side and is an example from a printed sheet of 25
Happy collecting!

One of my most absolute favorite birds in the world. Now known as Lesson's Motmot ( Momotus lessonii) and found throughout Central America.

The Falkland Islands set is a real beauty and although I have a block of the 2d Gentoo Penguins stamp, the 2 1/2d Rockhopper Penguin in the same format remains allusive. At the same time, the Lesson's Motmot shared is a beautiful bird and I can see why it tops the list for you.
Continuing with the penguins, this next set is of the Fiordland Crested Penguin (Eudyptes pachyrhynchus) from a New Zealand (there is a Dutch history lesson there, Nieuw-Zeeland) issue. Often confused with the earlier posted Snares Penguin, it is indeed another of the crested penguin species endemic to the region.
Fiordland Crested Penguin (Eudyptes pachyrhynchus) New Zealand (Michel 1054A) 1988 printed with offset lithography and a face value of 80c
If anyone can share the reason behind printing the different kiwi counts in the selvedge, I would be interested in knowing...
Happy collecting!

stanley64: Since this was a part of a definitive set, I'd say that you have 3 different printings of the issue. It seems to have been a long-running series. Your scan does seem to show differences. Maybe that's just the way they were scanned. Can you detect any differences between the three plate blocks?

I appreciate the input brightonpete and as you suggest they are from different printings. The Fiordland Crested Penguin issue from New Zealand was part of a definite set and I did some more research following your posting. The series was part of a long-running definitive set of Birds and Butterflies from 1988-1995. The penguins with their subtle differences from the front images, not something I picked up on but now see it on the screen is even more dramatic when viewed from the back. From the gummed side, the papers appear to be of different weight and the gum colour is a greenish-white of varying intensities. So indeed, the kiwis an added bonus for these "birds on stamps!" denote the different prints as you suggested, i.e. second printing - 1 kiwi, third printing - 2 kiwis, etc. Now I am on the lookout for a similar block from the original printing which should have no kiwi at all... Thanks for looking and happy collecting!

Australia uses icons like this to indicate reprintings, in their case koalas, among others. This old TSF post gives an example of that, and I recall a more detailed explanation of it somewhere, probably on TSF also. Ryan

With this block, the set is complete,
New Zealand 1988 80c Fiordland Crested Penguin (Eudyptes pachyrhynchus),
perf 14¼ x 14, imprint/traffic light/ from the original printing SG n.º1467.
As noted earlier, there are some differences in each of the printings; in this initial issue of the stamp, the gum is a creamy-white compared to greenish-white of later printings and one can easily see that the format and positioning of the imprint is different on the original printing when compared to other printings from the same series.
Now, given the long run and usage for this definitive set, there must be nice cancelled stamps out there to complete the album page...
Happy collecting!

Anyone else into owls? I am just accumulating them as a I find them and nothing so organized yet. Did you make those pages yourself anglobob ? I am trying to figure out how to display the owls I have and also hoping to find or create some sort of checklist.

stanley64, thank you for sharing, that site is great! I have been tinkering a bit and while it's very comprehensive, producing a wantlist seems a bit difficult as it would require the copy/paste of the specific owl related stamps. The overall country list seems to cover all birds. I do love all the images though.

Thanks philatelia! I find that colnect requires an 'all-in' type approach, meaning that while it's helpful as a resource to really get the value you've got to list/identify your own wants and needs, and use it fairly exclusive to oversee your collection. The way they've laid out their lists is generally comprehensive but not as conducive to creating an offline checklist/wantlist. Maybe I just need to get used to it but I don't find it very quick or easy to use either, but just my two cents. It's interesting, I have now seen a few owl lists thanks to colnect and bird theme and the # that the ATA lists, and there is definitely some variation in the results - some owls are slipping through the cracks!

The Chinstrap penguin, (Pygoscelis antarctica), likely one of the easiest of penguin species to identify with its cap of black plumage on the top of its head, a white face, and a fine, continuous band of black feathers that extends from one side of the head to the other across each cheek and under the chin.
South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, a full sheet of 50 stamps from the 1999 issue showing a mated pair of Chinstrap penguins (Michel n.º 289).
