I mentioned I won this lot at UPA auction. With my new buyer discount I ended up paying about $3 for them.Yet to be researched further but spotted a couple interesting little things that I'll show later. You can add the first 1¢ in the "postmark-of-the-day" thread tomorrow. Nice cancel on it. Great lot overall & for just $3??? Wow!

firstfrog2013 - according to the Unitrade catalog, "Numerous re-entries and minor plate flaws exist." With potentially 1,100 identifiably different stamps! There were 31 printings of this stamp, producing 39,100,000 stamps. So you can just imagine all the differences with them all considering the technology of the day!

My collection was /is a little light on #20's. I spotted this one that appeared alright and priced not bad so here it is.In louping it I spotted a line of ink at lower right corner.Upon investigation this seems to be the engraver's slip described in Unitrade. Not a big ticket item just something else to look for.

So I am trying to organize a page insert for my Canada collection for the First Cents issue. I know that there are three different perforations on the issue, and lots of shades. Between Unitrade, Gibbons and Brixton Chrome's excellent blog posts on the issue at canadianphilately.blogspot.com/ I have a pretty good idea of what i want to include except for the 10c Prince Albert. Whitworth highlights dozens of shades across the three perforations, and while I like collecting varieties, I am not up to collect several dozen variations. I think for me what would be best is to use the shades listed in Gibbons and Unitrade but the piece of info I lack is what perforations do each of the Gibbons shades exist in (besides the black brown and chocolate brown, which are from first printing and only exist 11.75x11.75) These are the other shades Gibbons and Unitrade lists Deep Red Purple (is this only in 2nd printing, so only perf 11.75x11.75 or does it exist in other perfs) Red Lilac Purple Brownish Purple Brown Pale Brown Dull Violet Bright Red Purple If anyone could help me by stating which perfs Whitworth assigns to these shades (I assume some exist in all three perfs, which is fine, as I want to include each perf for each shade group) I would be most appreciative of the help. Update - I have found an excellent summary/presentation on another forum of the various shades and perforations of the 10c Albert so now working on setting up my pages!

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I was looking through my Canadian album this evening while doing an auction bid list and was thinking maybe I might upgrade to mint some of my 1859 first cents issue. Changed my mind when I saw what they are going for. I like the shade varieties I have of the Prince Alberts’. They are all Unitrade 17’s, sadly no 16 yet and probably never will be when I see the CV for even used.

Very nice ring cancel & good margins on that #1 renden. My own pence collection is very modest, been spending my time lately on the King Eddy to KGV period, trying to sort out shades & varieties.
