I have a question for my fellow collectors of Indonesia --the catalogs differ on where Netherlands East Indies end and Indonesia begins. I would like to know where your Indonesian collections begins, do you include all of Netherlands East Indies, only the issues that say Indonesia even if they are listed under Netherlands East Indies, or do you start like the U.S does with any items issued by the Netherlands as not belonging under Indonesia?

It is interesting to see the stamps of Maluku Selatan. in 1996 I came across a number of Maluku Selatan in a small stamp shop in London.

I would like to provide information for bobstew617 in response to his query on Netherlands East Indies and Indonesian stamps. In the Indonesian stamp catalogue the Netherlands East Indies stamps were known as NED.INDIE stamps. The first Ned.Indie stamp was King Willem III, that was issued in 1 April 1864 (without perforation, and in 31 December 1900 with perforation. The last, Queen Juliana, was issued on 25 September 1948. In 1942 Indonesia was taken over by the Japanese from the Netherlands. On 17 August 1945 Indonesia declared its independence from the Japanaese, and right after that the Indonesian stamps began to appear. The stamps were actually the Ned.Indie or Dai Nippon stamps. The inscriptions Ned.Indie and Dai Nippon on the stamps were deleted with hand written bar, replaced by REPOEBLIK INDONESIA (hand stamped on the stamps). In my opinion, without the Ned.Indie and Dai Nippon stamps the Indonesian stamps would be incomplete. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get those stamps now because there are only a few left, and they are expensive.

Thanks, Brian snowy12 ), for sharing the pic of the Indonesian stamps. Those overprints are especially interesting. I've been working recenty on adding to the "Vienna Issues" part of my Indonesian collection.

It is interesting that on TSF the Netherland Indies is under "Oceania" section while Indonesia is under "Asia" section. I would think they should be in same group.
I was getting ready to print out Steiner Indonesia pages and noticed that the 1948-1950 issues are separate from the 1950 to date issues. The pre-50 issues covers the Java/Sumatra issues (1L/2L plus Scott 1 to 119). I also discovered there are additional issues in Scott under "Netherlands Indies" but have been overprinted Indonesia. Very confusing to me. From listing in Colnect, the catalog makers do not agree either. I cannot tell what is Michel No 1 for Indonesia is but can tell the 1948-50 issues have an L prefix. I do not know anything about the history to understand.
And it did not help when someone added the Neth Indies 120 to 332 issues in the Indonesia section in StampManage. They are also in the Neth Indies too. Scott skips this block in Indonesia listings.
Now I need to decide how I want to arrange them. As a minimum I will merge and reorganize the PDF.
