Let’s have a Live Auction
Rules
Members must have 50 posts in order to put up lots, APS and BNAPS members are allowed to place bids but they must register as forum members and submit their membership information.
Auction will be done using the shout box (only members can post on the shout box, guest can look)
Suggestions for a time and date? I was thinking the end of February or the start of March
Time is always a tricky one, with us scattered across the four corners of the globe no time we pick will suit everyone. I think a Sunday might be best say 10am Newyork time. Saturday is very much a runaround day for many, Sunday always seems a more relax.
Input please!

I'll toss in my two cents ... I always get into trouble with these auctions! Anyway, Sunday morning will be hard for me as I work, but any time after 3 PM, EST or New York time would be better. HOWEVER, I will go with the group. I can always submit a proxy. As far as the date, whenever y'all decide is just fine with me.
Thanks for doing this, Jack, these live auctions are so much fun.

Suggest we let our over seas members pick the day/time for this one.We always go with our time zones maybe others can have one at their choice. It all works for me who knows I may have something laying about even. Jack are you the auctioneer?

Time is good, 10am NY but I'm happy if the majority are happy.
I won't be here Feb 11-22, off to say goodbye to my dear aunt in the UK. After that is fine but again, whatever suits the rest. I too like the auctions, great fun but I'll add some lots whether here or not.
Great idea !

10am NY seems to be suitable for most, Aussie members will be their evening/night and UK-Eurozone afternoon. I will put a count down clock a week before that way everyone will know the start time. I thinking first Sunday in March, that will give members the month of February to post lots and gather interest.
We will allow board bidding but the auction will end live, we will also allow proxy bids to be placed in case you wont be online and still want to participate.
With board bids it helps speed things up a little. I will have a list of the schedule of lots in order. Remember sometimes a lot will often go 10 minutes of bidding and banter.
I will break the auction up in 2 or three sessions this way we will have time for a fresh cuppa and rest

Admin, The natives are getting restless! I've created the board but need you to confirm date and time. March 20th noon New York Time that will be a Sunday, I will post count down clock the week of the auction to avoid any confusion. Just start a thread with your lot number, we will allow both board bidding and also proxy/mail bids all auctions will end by live auction. I will explain our rules more in depth but got to run for work.

Sounds good to me. Sorry for reena that she cannot be here but I know it is never going to be right for everyone. Still be able to bid though and put a lot or two for auction.
I got some nice things in the UK last week including one or three nice lots for the auction. I need to get scanning. I'll just write this date in my diary first...........

I'm iffy for the 20th myself, but maybe I can get a few bids up high enough in the meantime to secure a win or two? A donation lot sounds like a winner, too. But what?

Well I'm just going to jump right in and embarrass the devil out of myself! Because you are my friends I feel I can do this and y'all are used to my off the wall questions.
The upcoming auction: I have a lot that I'd like to submit. But I don't know the ins and outs and the how to, to get this done in an intelligent way. And of course, the proceeds are for the club/site or are they personal? Can somebody help? Thank you bunches.

The proceeds are personal unless you designate the lot(s) as being "donation."
With regard to the how, just create a separate thread on this board for each lot you plan on posting; include an opening price and information related to shipping and handling costs, payment method, etc.
We usually limit each member to 3 or 4 lots until we get a feel for how much material is being offered.

Steve, thanks for that information. I'll be getting a couple lots together.
LB1, I get off work about 3 and if things are still going I'll be checking in. Way too much fun.

If it's 12 Noon New York time then the countdown clock is a bit ahead of itself !!
Not sure what has happened....or is it just wrong at my end ??!!

Lb1 you taxed my math abilities after working all day! The clock seems right here maybe you lost daylight savings time? We had the spring ahead bit last week.Don't be late we expect you to be on time.

We had the spring ahead bit last week.Don't be late we expect you to be on time. We must be seeing different clocks. According to the countdown clock on my screen, there are 3 hrs 25 minutes to go until the start of the auction, but in reality there is a lot more !! The world clock at the bottom of the page is correct, so I have no idea what is happening.
Not that important though, just odd.

The count down and the world clock are set to your computer`s clock. If your computer is not correct the clocks will be incorrect as well.

The count down and the world clock are set to your computer`s clock. If your computer is not correct the clocks will be incorrect as well. That had crossed my mind before checking but the two do not agree with each other. The world clock is Ok as normal. The last auction countdown clock was OK too while this one is different.
Still, all in tune with a weird morning. We had a Terrorist alarm in our village and the army moved in and we have spent the last 2 hours in lockdown ! I was lucky enough to be at home so I locked the door and played on the computer and with stamps !!!!
Alarm now over so back to work.

It was a nice evening amongst friends, thanks to all for the fun and excitement ! I had some computer blips and posting 'shouts' proved difficult at times, but it did not spoil the fun too much. Not sure if anyone noticed the shout amidst the mayhem, but $516 + $25 [Penny Black] exchanged hands making it, at least according to my counts, a record auction for TSF !! If that is the case, then congrats to all and well done to all who picked up some nice items.
Until the next time.............. CUsersJackPicturesmailman-418264

I too had some anxious moments with my internet connection and weird delays with shout box sometimes not refreshing for two minutes.Over all I was having so much fun I forgot I wasn't actually in a room with "live" people.Today I am a bit bruised and black and blue but feel like I was in the fight and winning for a while.I'll be training hard to get ready for the next one so watch out.I'll be putting up some more goodies then but wanted to thank all my bidders winner and losers. You guys are the ones I escape to when life smacks me down. This place rocks the web!
