WWII Ephemera Lisa's Collection Letter from Father in CA to Son in MA It's a wee bit tedious to scan all of these letters, so this will be a slow process. I find the letters fascinating and would love to hear what all of you think about them. I noted that, at the end, dad warns his son to tear up the letters when he responds because someone on dad's naval ship did not. I don't know why that's important, though. Dad also predicts on April 23, 1945 that the war in Europe will be over soon. VE day - 5/8/1945 - he didn't know how right he was! Please share your thoughts!

hi Lisa. These are great. Do you have the envelopes to go with? I have a collection of about 70 letters from a US soldier home to his folks (1944-46) and find them quite fascinating. Did a small exhibit a couple of years ago for my club, but still trying to figure out what to do with the entire collection. For me, this is what philately is all about!

I agree! This is one of the most fascinating things I've come across in my philatelic endeavors! Unfortunately, I don't have the covers. I actually didn't even know I was purchasing these letters. I bought a big box of stamps and ephemera at a flea market and I found these buried in them.

Nice purchase, Lisa. I keep trying to find such surprises at flea markets, but the sellers always seem to believe that any stamp related material probably has an undiscovered world rarity among its clutter, and when I attempt to negotiate a lesser price, they become convinced of that!

It's so true, Bobby. I'm not even sure that the person who sold these to me knew they were in there, but I'm certainly not complaining!

a story to go with that Bobby. I must be the only stamp collector locally when I go to post office the girls often flag me down.Seems when someone comes in with stamp questions I'm the go to guy. The clerks get cell phone numbers for me to contact and go look at many stamps. Most often (nearly always) the person is terribly disappointed to be informed those little glassines from kenmore et al are not worth the huge dollars they were thinking. I often get the look like they believe I know nothing. Even when I explain how to go to library and catalog the stamps but not to expect full catalog for anything I really get the look. It is sometimes hard to remain polite but I try to be patient. I guess it's been ingrained in people we collect for the $$ so what they find, having never seen them before, MUST be worth a closet full of money.
