US National Parks Lisa's Collection This isn't my album page, but I will create my own. A couple interesting cancels on these. I'm not very good at identifying cancels - the second row, first stamp is a World Fair cancel. Can anyone tell me what this cancel looks like in it's entirety? And yes, this gentleman clearly had the same issues I have with making things straight!

Were the national park stamps issued as part of the Century of Progress celebration?

I believe the answer is no, they were not; however, they were likely connected as part of a larger campaign aimed at depression-era recovery. In 1933 the Secretary of the Interior designated 1934 as "National Parks Year" and an intensive marketing campaign was launched to promote America's scenic beauty and encourage domestic tourism. Mystic provides the below summation: And FDR touches upon it in his August 5, 1934 radio address from Glacier National Park.

Since the National Parks issue is pre-1940, shouldn't someone move this thread to the United States: Classic section?

Note the bent tooth on the 3c. It would probably break off if I tried to straighten it.

The Farley Era and especially the National Parks issues are some of my favorite stamps of all US issues. I'll post up some of my collection in this area once I get home ... yeah, I sometimes get to dink around on the internet at work. Tough job but someone has to do it.
