John F. Kennedy: 35th President of the United States (1961-3) assassinated in office November 22, 1963. I was in Latin class when the announcement came over the PA system. Residents of the USA of my generation remember where they were when they heard the news.

I was on recess in the playground of McKinley school, which had been named after another U.S. president who had been assassinated, when our teachers brought us back into the classroom to tell us what had happened. Umm al Qiwain 15np, black design with gold inscriptions on pale yellow, perf. 14.5 issued January 20, 1965 (Scott 27). The stamp shows Mrs. Kennedy, her children and Robert Kennedy following the President's coffin.

The U.S. issued a 5c, blue gray, perf. 11x10.5 Kennedy Memorial stamp on May 29, 1964 (Scott 1246). This cover bears that stamp and celebrates the fifth anniversary of President Kennedy's inaugural.

Between 1965 and 1981, nineteen individuals were honored with stamps in the U.S.' Prominent Americans issue; among them was President John F. Kennedy. The 13 cent brown, perf. 11x10.5 and 10.5x11 stamp bearing his image was issued May 29, 1967 (Scott 1287).

Always wanted to do a collection of JFK stamps. His funeral was on my first birthday, so somehow I've always felt a connection to him. Might still get around to that collection.

These two letter sheets featuring President Kennedy and a jet airplane were issued on the day of Kennedy's birth (May 29) in 1965 and 1967, respectively. The 11 cent sheet, typographed without embossing on blue paper in red & dark blue, was issued in Boston, Massachusetts (Scott UC38). The 13 cent letter sheet, similarly printed, was issued in Chicago, Illinois (Scott UC39). The cachet on the 11 cent is by Art Craft; the cachet on the 13 cent is by Fleetwood.

This first day cover bears a 22 cent, perf. 11 stamp featuring President Kennedy (Scott 2219h) taken from the fourth "Presidents of the United States" miniature sheet of the AMERIPEX '86 issue. The four sheets were issued on May 22, 1986 in conjunction with the International Stamp Show being held in Chicago, Illinois from May 22 to June 1, 1986.

What a fun thread to read. When I was much younger in the early 1980’s it seemed the JFK issues were all the rage. As a youngster with an extremely limited budget, I bought as much as I could. Unfortunately, over the years I sold or gave away portions of that collection. Seeing this post was great trip down memory lane. Are there a great deal of JFK enthousiastes out there? I may have to go digging though some boxes and see what I still own.

I was in elementary school, in class when the teacher told us. Then she had us take a moment of silence so those who wanted to could pray. More Kennedy stamps from Yemen... the kingdom in this case. There were two more in the set, which I don't have unless they are in the box of unsorted stamps. They are fairly large stamps.

Another In Memoriam issue for JFK, issued by Gabon in 1964 (Block #4, composed 4 #PA29 issues). In 1963, I was barely a twinkle in my mother's eyes. I'm of the generation that remembers where they were when they learned the Berlin Wall had fallen, which for me was a breakfast place in downtown Montreal near the McGill campus after an all-nighter doing a Statistical Mechanics problem set with some study buddies. But the first political event I remember is the assassination of Anouar-el-Sadate in 1981.

John F KENNEDY - Scott # 1246 - Full mint sheet that I personally bought in Madawaska Maine, USA, P.O. at the tender age of 13, with my late father - Madawaska is just across the bridge from Edmundston, New Brunswick, in the State of Maine and my dad even had a PO # to receive his courier - He was a Newspaper man (Editor-Owner). Enjoy the mint sheet !!René

My father purchased the JFK Memorial album I believe in 1964. About half is full. In searching to fill various spots I came to realize that some of the issues have held their value nd increased in price over the years. It is an interesting album but very heavily Africa and various long gone Middle Eastern nations. I am lad to see the vibrant market for JFK stamps.

I recently acquired this unaddressed first day cover for the Kennedy Memorial issue (Scott 1246; May 29, 1964) that was postmarked in my home town of Cicero, Illinois (see TSF Newsletter V2.4 p.11). The cachet is by Alfred "Tag" Boerger, a Florida stamp dealer whose nickname was due to his specialization in tagged (luminescent) stamps.

These are all fantastic. I don't have any topical collections, but this is one I'm seriously considering starting. His funeral was on my first birthday, so I've always held a fascination with JFK.
