So, I'm trying to go the free and cross platform route when it comes to cataloging my stamp collection. To do that, I want to use an app called Datacrow, which coincidentally is free and cross platform. (Mac, Linux and Windows) The problem with using free software is, you have to build the catalog. The database is blank. Well, I'm hoping that the data I populate it with can be distributed by me as a download you can import. So here is the master plan. The software I want to use is called Datacrow. I have mentioned it on other forums before. The website is: www.datacrow.netThe stamp inventory module can be found here: www.datacrow.net/stamp_module.zipSo, here are some screen shots of the stamp data. I'd like my fellow collectors tell me what they think needs to be added or taken away from these screens. Screen 1: Screen 2: Screen 3: The software also has an optional built in web server, so you can access your data from anywhere if you set it up right.

You've got much more information than I maintain on my collection in an Excel spreadsheet.
On separate sheets for regular issue, on cover/card, air mail, special delivery, surplus, etc., I record: Scott No., Quantity, Mint/Used, Location, Condition, Catalog Value, Date Purchased, Purchase Price, and Description.
The only sheet on which I've made entries in the description column is On Covers/Cards where I record such things as postmark, backstamps, cachets, etc.
I also maintain an image file of the more interesting and/or valuable items in a series of sub folders.
If I need additional detail on a stamp beyond that in the spreadsheet (e.g., color, perfs, wmk, etc.) I refer to either the catalog or my image file.
Probably the most useful data elements have been the Scott Number and Location -- I can quickly determine whether or not I have an item and, if so, where I put it.
I'm quite comfortable with my accounting of my U.S. items but I've barely scratched the surface on worldwide holdings.

Well, I guess I am on my own with this one.
