Germany,at the time still West-Germany started issuing a new definitive series "Women of German History" in 1986. During the running of the series important events in Germany´s history happened: 1990 the reunification with East-Germany (DDR/GDR) and in 2002 the introduction of the Euro-money. I´ll show the stamps of this series (as far as I have them) in chronlogical order.
50 Pfg. Christine Teusch 1888-1968 (politician),issued Nov.13th,1986 80 Pfg. Clara Schumann 1819-1896 (pianist,composer and wife of Robert Schumann),issued Nov.13th,1986 40 Pfg. Maria Sibylla Merian 1647-1717 (scientific painter of flowers and insects),issued Sept.17th,1987

I like this set. There are 39 stamps in total of this definitive series. It was a long running series as well, as it started in 1986, and continued through to 2003!

I had left out two stamps, issued May 5th,1988:
20 Pfg. Cilli Aussem 1909-1963 (tennis player);she was the first german women to win the French Open and Wimbledon in 1931. 130 Pfg. Lise Meitner 1878-1968 (physicist);she worked together with Otto Hahn on the nuclear fission. When she had to immigrate to Sweden in 1938,because she was jewish,Hahn kept close contact with her and she was the first to know, when Hahn and Strasser succeeded with the Uran-fission. She published the theoretical explanation for Hahn´s achievement. During the war the US-Government invited her to the US,to take part into the development of an atomic bomb, what she resolutly turned down. After the war Hahn got the Nobel Prize,Meitner and Strasser did not.One of the many bad judgements of the Nobel-Committee !

Bertha Pappenheim 1859 - 1936,born into a wealthy german-jewish family, was a social worker, author and poet. In 1907 she founded the "Jüdischer Frauenbund" (Jewish Women Association) JFB.The JFB aimed to achieve equal rights for jewish woman within the jewish community. The JFB joined the "Bund Deutscher Frauenvereine" (BDF) (Confederation of German Women Associations) in 1907.The JFB was the biggest jewish charity orgabization in Germany with more than 50.000 members. Pappenheim saw her greatest achievement in founding a home (1907) for illegitimate children, women saved from prostitution and women under the thread of traffic in human beings, what was not uncommon in the jewish communities in Eastern Europe. The home in Neu Isenburg, near Frankfurt was destroyed by the Nazis in 1938,two years after Pappenheims death from cancer in 1936. In her early twenties she suffered badly from "hysteria".Her doctor,Josef Breuer together with Sigmund Freud wrote a study about her case:"Patient Anna O.",the theoretical foundation of the psychoanalysis. Freud later called Pappenheim (Anna O.) the founder of the psychoanalysis.

Amalie Skram (1846-1905) Norwegian author and feminist who gave voice to a woman's point of view with her naturalist writing. In Norway, she is frequently considered the most important female writer of the Modern Breakthrough (Det moderne gjennombrudd). Her more notable works include a tetralogy, Hellemyrsfolket (1887–98) which portray relations within a family over four generations. She was bor in Bergen, my hometown.
