Two soldiers letters from the Great War. Both addressed to Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hughes (one each). Both envelopes contain letters of thanks from soldiers overseas for gifts received from the Hughes. The YMCA envelope, postmarked July23 1917 contains a letter starting with Dear Friend, and thanking for the unsolicited gifts. The second, from a convalescent hospital in Epsom England thanks Mrs Hughes for a Christmas stocking. I'll post the letters later.

As an aside - sort of - I purchased this WWII soldiers letter from the same dealer. Probably impossible to discover if the recipient Sgt. D.M. Hughes or the sender E.S. Hughes from Montreal are related to Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hughes of Montreal from the WWI letters, but wouldn't that be a hoot if they were? What do you think, son and grandson?
It's not that I'm consciously collecting soldiers mail, but I am starting to find myself with a small pile of the, Canadian and American. Who knows, the start of a future exhibit/collection?

Come to think of it, this one too. Same address on the front here as on the back above. Any of our Quebec members know what NDG refers too?

Presumably this: Notre-Dame-de-GrĂ¢ce (English: Our Lady of Grace), also nicknamed NDG, is a residential neighbourhood of Montreal located in the city's West End. (Wiki)
