Here's a cover acquired a few weeks ago I thought I'd share. Flag Day June 14 1936 postmarked on the USS West Virginia. The homemade cachet includes a small flag sticker. The stamps are SC#730a from the 1933 Century of Progress souvenir sheet.
A quick look at the West Virginia on the inter-web tells me she was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, but later salvaged and repaired. She continued on to become a part of the fleet to successfully destroy the Japanese fleet and was a part of the attack on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Talk about a come back!
