Imperial Russia cover used in 1912 from Rostov-on-Don to New York. Cancelled with the machine postmark of Rostov-on-Don. Insufficient address - hence the "Searcher No.1" handstamp in red. Norwegian Krag postmarking machines were used in some (not all) of the larger cities of Russia since 1906. The first use in Rostov-on-Don has been recorded in literature in 1913. Franked correctly at 10 kopecks.

In Kiev, from whence this postcard was sent on this day in 2014, it is a nice mild evening. No doubt the inhabitants of the city are rejoicing, as Dynamo Kiev just beat Zorya 4 - 0.

2nd May (1898) Canada, Scott #69, 3-cent carmine definitive stamp depicting Queen Victoria (known as the "Leaf Design" due to the presence of maple leaves in the two lower corners, which were later replaced with numerals) and postmarked on this date in 1898 (120 years ago today) in St. John, New Brunswick. I acquired this stamp from firstfrog2013 in the big TSF Donation Auction Lot back in the spring of 2017, and it is now one of my treasures--thanks, Frog!!
