One-hundred one years ago today; I imagine a bored clerk, in Gävle, bangs away a pair of Swedish Gustaf Vs from 1920, F149A. I think the rate had just doubled, so this probably was for a normal letter. Somebody correct me if that's wrong.
Sweden's Postverket had just installed their new Stickney press from the US; zapping out rotary intaglio coils. Just like the BEP, they went cuckoo with new designs and formats. And just like the BEP, they never got Stickney's press to align consistently, like here. Collecting Swedish coil variations from their Stickney-era is very popular. I lack the essential discipline.

Austria SC21 SG43 YT26,issued in 1863 and with a postmark from Josefstadt,Vienna.  24 May 1896 Chile SC38,issued in 1894 and with a postmark from Santiago.  24 May 1899 Austria SC54,issued in 1890.The postmark is from Lobositz,now known as Lovosice in Czech Republic.  |

Is it cheating if I can match the month/day/year?  Probably... but, today's newest issue... "Local Snacks in Hong Kong" - this is the second set in the series. The first was launched early last year (2021). Look at the length of the "queue" for date stamping this morning - LOL  The date stamps that you can choose from. The guy in the photo above was directing the poor staff member on how he wanted it perfectly stamped. He's got a plastic bag on the floor - maybe it's full of FDCs he's planning to sell... 26 May 1900 France YT101 with a convoyeur cancellation,Bussang a Epinal.  26 May 1908 Austria SC 122 60h SC 115 10h,issued in 1908.Used on a money order and cancelled at Pola,Istria.During WW1,this was the main base for the Austro-Hungarian navy.It is now known as Pula in Croatia.  |
