A philatelic sourvenir, but still intereting. 'Victory' cover posted on the afternoon of May 15, 1945 from Tacloban, Leyte Island, Philippines. The war was not quite ovet in the east -- or in the Philippines. Tacloban had served as the interim Capital of the Commonwealth of the Phillipines following the US landings in October 1944. The poorly struck cachet on the lower left, are the captial letters C and P [Commonwealth Philippines] overlaid on a sheild. The prewar 1935 US/Philippines stamps were overprinted with 'Commonwealth' in 1936 and 'Victory' in 1945. [There was also a 1944 Victory serires]. Sc. 485-492

May 17, 1972 FDC cover from Ottawa to Kingston, ON. Stamp: Comte de Frontenac $0.08 Engraved (one colour) and photogravure (two colours) This is a rather routine FDC from the 70s. But, Frontenac left an oversized footprint around where I live. He was appointed govenor of New France in April 1672. In June, he set out from Montreal with 120 canoes, 400 companions and two flat-bottomed boats armed with a couple of cannons. They made their way through the rapids on the St. Lawrence River and on the 12th of July arrived at Cataraqui. He spent a week in councils and feasts with the Iroquois. Today, on one side of the Cataraqui River is the city of Kingston, accross from its mouth is Wolfe Island (where I live) and on the other side of the river is the Royal Military College of Canada, Fort Frederick, Fort Henry and CFB Kingston. The ruins of Fort Frontenac are a national historic site and are across the street from the Wolfe Island / Kingston ferry dock. I can't count (no pun intended) the schools, malls and other local places that are named Frontenac (or Cataraqui).

A Canadian classic ... the visit of the Royal Family in 1939 to Newfoundland, Canada and the US. Fun fact: The occasion of the Royal vist was used as a cover for the first of many shippment of gold to Canada. See www.canadashistory.ca/explore/business-industry/guarding-the-goldPostmarked on the Royal Train on May 19, 1939. From the date, it was posted to Philadelphia, PA when the train was in Ottawa. There is an arrival cancel on the reverse from Philadelphia on May 20th at 11:30am. Stamps: Princess Elizabeth (Later QE11) and Princess Margaret Block of 4, $0.01 Sc. 246 Special Delivery Arms of Canada $0.10 Sc. E7
Source: The clipping is a digital file on my database. There is a note saying it was posted online in 2014. Not sure where.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Once again I have enjoyed your added images as much as your calendar item franoise. I have not visited Estonia and the city of Tallinn yet but I am reminded of it daily as I walk by this little picture my mother brought back from one of my parents many trips. She always brought us something even in our adult lives. I understand that St Olaf's/St. Olav's is an iconic part of the city. Thanks for sharing.
