1 October 1949. St. Lucia to Tacoma, Washington via air mail. A "home-made" FDC for the 1949 reissues of a 1938 design featuring King George VI (Scott A22): the lower denominations Scott #135-137 and 139-141. Missing is the 4c Scott #138 and the 12c and 16c Scott #142 and 143. But the stamps most valuable today in the series are included: Scott lists the CVs for the (used) red 3c, red orange 6c, and ultra 7c as $2.50, $3.50, and $3.00, respectively. This is another cover from my dad's collection.

A slogan cancel from Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1 October 1993) advises us to mail early in the day. Perhaps that was solid advice in '93, but probably doesn't make much difference today. us.milwaukee.wi-1993.10.01 by Mick Taylor, on Flickr

Hi Rod (rod222), It's a great question, I looked in my GB references earlier and had no luck; unfortunately, the bulk of my references are pre-QEII? Perhaps one of our 'modern' GB collectors can shed some light? Rob

Interestingly, Rob ( REL1948), despite the 1959 date on your GB meter, the royal cypher seems to be for KGVI rather than QEII, which seems surprising to me. Let's try tagging some other UK members to see if anyone can help with the "UE" question: daniel, vikingeck, drblade, michael, wakeybluenose.... Apologies if I have forgotten someone I should be remembering.

With reference to the meter mark shown by REL1948 . ( Beryllium Guy rod222 etc) The U denotes the type of machine as a “Universal” as opposed to “P “ Pitney Bowes , or “N” Neopost and the second letter which could be A,or B etc is used when the value can be changed. The number on the right indicates the licence holder .

I recently won a large stock book of used older Switzerland, some with spectacular cancels. There's plenty of material there for future 'Postmark Calendar' posts. Rob

The branch was newly opened serving a newly created neighborhood. Slow morning here--don't feel like working--so I checked it out. Below you see it's fate today. Just too perfect. Is it written that former post offices become pizzerias?

Perhaps, then we shall be discussing what happened to former pizzerias The only thing that remains the same, is change.
