The addressee, was involved in the Church 15 years beforehand, Greenwich. Ct She was apparently a "Congregationalist" Christian, as I was, when a Choirboy. She was a student at Mount Holyoke Seminary in South Hadley when the letter was written -- 1862 was her final year there but she did not graduate. Ancestry.com is the source of the below, biographic information.

Fascinating name, derived from Myrtle (Eng) .7% Popular in 1901 and died out in popularity completely by 1960.
Probably by people's inability to pronounce the name correctly.
Myrtilla sounds cumbersome, (reminds me of Morilla -Anne of Green Gables) but pronounced correctly, "Meehertia", sounds rather lovely.

The 1c blue Franklin (Scott 24) is tied to this cover with a large Boston "Paid" cancel. The red Boston CDS indicates the year was 1859. The addressee, Asa P. Morse, he earned himself an unfortunate place in U.S. case law (Van Houten v. Morse). In 1943, France was added to the Overrun Countries issue (Scott 915). In 1960 the U.S. commemorated the centenary of the U.S.-Japan Treaty of Amity and Commerce with the issuance of a 4c stamp (Scott 1158) featuring the Washington Monument and cherry blossoms from the progeny of trees bestowed upon the U.S. in a gesture of friendship by Japan.

Adversity cover from Kazan (bilingual Cyrillic-Arabic postmark) to Zurich, Switzerland, 4/10/1928. Franked at 48k with 40k Large Head and 8k 10th anniversary of Red Army – this rate corresponds to the foreign airmail registered rate of the period. Red registration handstamp (Cyrillic / Arabic). On the back of the cover, a label of a bimonthly French (?) review / magazine.
Hi Vasia, what is a an adversity cover? I am not au-fait with that phrase. The Label is vaguely familiar, but nothing under my French Cinderellas. A close up is required if you want us to search further.

This 10c green, Prussian blue & rose brown, perf. 11 stamp (Scott 1576) was issued in 1975, as a prelude to the 7th World Law Conference held at the World Peace Through Law Center in Washington, DC. The Center has subsequently been renamed as the World Jurist Association.

A close up is required if you want us to search further. Hello, Rod during the first years of the Soviet Union, the scarcity of paper and the lack of funds, sometimes forced people to resort to using all types of odd paper as envelopes (pages from school notebooks, accounting books, re-used envelopes turned inside-out, as in this case, etc). The term "adversity cover" is used (at least in the literature on Russian philately) to denote such uses. I will post at a late point a close-up of the French label, just in case you might be able to offer some hints.

Cover from Tiflis, POC. N 3 (?) [bilingual Georgian / Cyrillic postmark) to Debrecen, Hungary (10/10/1934) and re-directed to Basel, Switzerland (12/10/1934). Registered with very crude provisional label made up of a handwritten piece of paper glued to the envelope. Additionally, a hand-written registration number, encased in a blue-crayon rectangle probably in Debrecen. In Debrecen a “faire suivie” is writen-in in the same blue crayon and on the back a red-border “Elkoltozott / Parti” label is added. The envelope is for the 15th International Physiological Congress that took place in Leningrad and Moscow between 9-17 August 1935 (presided by Pavlov).
"Elkoltozott / Parti" = "moved" (no longer at this address) Hungary etiquette "faire suivie" = (Fr) To be forwarded

This any help? swansongrp.com/macht208.htmlYeah, that's exactly what I used to identify it but is only suspect because I didn't see an exact image but there isn't images for a lot of the variants on that very useful site. Thank you Rod.
