January 4th, 1918
Cover from МОЖГА, Udmurtia (Mozhga) to Riga, Latvia (no receiver). The letter is franked correctly at the 28k registered letter rate with 18k 10th anniversary of revolution and 2x5k “small heads”. Note that the registration label bears the older town name: Кrasnyi Poselok (in Latin characters as expected in this type of foreign destination label). This is the turning point in time for the name change.

Cover from ЭРИВАНЬ п.т.к. (Yerevan, bilingual Armenian-Russian cds) to Riga, Latvia (no backstamp). Franked at 30k with “Large Heads” (overfranked by 2k). The non-standard registration label is bilingual Armenian/Russian, perfed on 3 sides, with black border and a pre-printed registration number.
At bottom right there is a penciled notation in Russian relating to stamps and a calculation of weight costs / charges – conceivably the envelope contained stamps being sent abroad, but it is unclear whether any charges were levied in cash.

January 13th, 1993
Postal stationery envelope used during the post-Soviet inflation period in Ukraine. From Rovno to Gosha in the same oblast (backstamp of the 15th). The 7 kopeck Soviet envelope had been initially uprated with the violet octagonal 93 kopeck handstamp to cover the 1 karb ordinary letter rate (valid from May 1992 to January 5th, 1993). After January 6th, the letter rate jumped to 3 karb + 3 karb for registration. On my cover the additional 5 karb is made up with a newly issued 2 karb Ukraine stamp and a 3 karb rectangular "Oplacheno"=paid handstamp.
A philatelic touch on this cover, but it shows nicely the variety of franking methods used during this inflationary period.
