For today, a recent acquisition for my Ethiopian cover collection. Sent from Addis Ababa to Austin, Texas (which I guess has the nickname of Tarrytown?) and postmarked on 13 March 1969 in Jimma. Postage due of 26c was assessed at JFK. I have two questions for folks more knowledgeable than me (which is most people on the forum :-) - Would the "Mar 17 1969" stamp have been applied at the same time as the postage due stamp? To add to your list, Portugal issued a Cleft Stick stamp in 1979 (SG 1751, Scott #1432) A 14‐escudos horizontal stamp shows a 16th century mounted messenger delivering a letter on a cleft stick from a distance to avoid being struck by a plague. colnect.com/en/stamps/list/variant/66527 |
