I'm embarrassed to admit that, unless you count Forum administrivia and writing for the Newsletter, I've done almost no stamping since the start of the year. I've made a number of purchases and received some giveaway material from members but almost all of it sits, waiting for me to process and put away. Today was different, however, as I decided that I'd try to make a dent in the 40+ pile of Ohio prepaid sales tax receipts that Mike ( mikeclevenger ) sent me as part of his very generous OSTS offer. I only processed three Superior Printing & Lithograph Company stamps -- added to inventory, scanned, made labels, updated my album/stock book, scanned updated pages, and edited the respective posts on my OSTS thread on the U.S. Back of Book board -- but it seemed like a significant feat given the preceding months of inactivity. I feel the passion returning and hope this has been the start of a trend that will continue.

I finished mounting some mid-70's Maldive issues I had purchased from an old stamp packet along with mostly KGVI era pictorials for various British commonwealth countries. I have quite a few countries where I only have 1 or 2 stamps. I print the Steiner pages as I go.

Yesterday, I rearranged my small but hopefully growing collection of RR cinderellas in one of my stock books.

A search of the Forum's Cinderella board using the terms train and railroad revealed 13 pages of posts -- perhaps you can assist in increasing that number.

Well now then ahm, last Sunday was auction day in that quaint little town of Oxford of Thames. During the frantic bidding war that ceased at lot one I managed to secure a slightly smelly box of detritus to sort through. The best bits so far were the five imperforate penny reds, one pair and three loose, all with 1864+ obliterators. Out of the kilo or so of loose I have got arm ache. (And a big grin on my face).
This is of course distracting me from writing up my Brazilian stamps and other chores.

This weekend I hope to do some more searching for Lego on stamps. I know there are about 6 or 7 issues. I need to look at ATA checklists. My 11 year old nephew loves Lego and I have bought two issues for him and myself. He seems to be getting more interested in collecting.

If you think there is promise, you might consider gifting him a membership in the Young Stamp Collectors of America. A Beginner's Kit (collecting) is another option to consider.

I just made my first purchase on delcampe -- a single item for my hometown collection -- I'm still waiting for an invoice.
So far the experience is much different than that of ebay but I'm withholding judgement until the transaction has concluded.

I just finished designing & printing my album pages for Greenland, as far as I can go now. They are just a simple design... Waiting for an order to arrive from Postbeeld & the APS StampStore (great deals there!) As of now, I am missing one stamp from Greenland (1935-1996). So that is holding up printing out a double-sided album page. I have other countries to design & mount, but that'll be done another day.

I should add... I like the contrast in colour for album pages. The entire stamp stands out much better this way. I also colour-code various types. Airmail = blue, semi-postals = orange, postage dues = red, etc etc etc...

As promised in my off-topic thread about my relocation to France, here is a brief update on my stamping activities. The truth? There really hasn't been time for very much. And as we all know, when time is limited, what easier and more satisfying stamping activity is there than.... acquisition, of course! Shown below is a photo of some very old loose-leaf album pages used by an old-time collector. I bought these from the stamp dealer here in Aix who comes to the Saturday morning open-air market in the town center here. And being in France, naturally, my biggest acquisition to date since arriving here is stamps from.... South America & the Caribbean, of course! So much for my plan of buying local things locally. Anyway, the dealer had bought an old album and almost everything he showed me was from South America & Caribbean, all 19th Century material, so I bought all of it for one price. Did I overpay? Well, that remains to be seen. I have started to remove the stamps from the pages as carefully as possible, but it has not been easy. The original collector used paper hinges (oddly mounted upside down from the usual way, essentially virtually pinning the stamp down to the page) with glue, but luckily the glue is water-soluble so I have been able to soak the stamps off their hinges. Some of the stamps are damaged, as is to be expected with a collection from this era, but I have already managed to salvage some pretty nice ones, but need to do more research, as time permits, to catalogue everything and check for forgeries! Nelson (@falshung ), I promise to tag you in future posts!

I had picked up a 70's packet. It was loaded with Grenada, Dominica, and other stamp producing islands. The inclusion of these did not bother me for what it was but it mostly had just the lower 2 or 3 stamps for every set so a lot of short sets.

Nordfrim had a special a while back of a large lot of German stamps. It included a few pictures of some of what was included. I was interested & sent them an email asking a couple q's about this large lot, but I never received a reply. I don't know why I never bought any stamps when I lived there from 84-87. Just a stamp to mail letters was all I bought. hmmm...

I got in an ebay lot of mint Somaliland Protectorate stamps and mounted them. Another new country for the album (meaning I create a country separator page).

I got in an old Harris album worldwide album. After quickly looking it over, I got fewer British Commonwealth that I was after. I do have a lot of countries I do not collect - yet. The album was mostly mounted in what appear to be Dennison hinges but hinges do not peel off easily. I like have some the "Stamp adoption" forum.

I didn't do too much today. Other than pick up auction winnings at the Post Office. Three Admiral coil pairs - catalogue value: $250. Paid: $55.
I noticed Michel has high prices, and Stanley Gibbons even higher prices. Whats the point of catalog values when auctions are a fraction of cat. & some dealers sell for less.
I'm not complaining, but when I kick off, heirs will think they have a goldmine!

Have not noticed anything like it sold by stamp supply retailers here in Canada. thanks in advance for any info. David

I ended finding a Canadian paper dealer, so shipping is minimal. I don't know where you live, but they only ship to Canada. It is 65 lb cardstock which is ideal for printing double-sided album pages.Paper Garden : Canadian, excellent variety, shipping only to Canada Bazzill Basics : American, textured, some quite pricey. The local office supply etc store stocks square sheets of Bazzill. Quite nice, but single-sided.

Jumping up & down as I had submitted the winning bid on a pretty good looking 1908 Quebec Tercentenary set (Canada #96-103). Yippee! But unfortunately, that was about all I did today. At least there is always another day...

I have had two excellent ebay wins, most unusual for me. First of them was 2 lots of Montmartre Commune Stamps, the first time I have ever seen any on offer anywhere. I purchased a few privately about 10 years ago but have seen nothing since. Looking forward to their arrival. I was so excited, I had them sent registered !! Today for a measly $1.50 I won an item that I had also never seen before, only read about in books and magazines. That was also exciting ! I have also been arranging my upcoming trip to the UK and have decided to forego the visit to Stampex in London and my Cinderella Stamp Club Auction to visit a Melon Festival in Catalonia on August 27th !! I wrote about the special once-a-year Stamp meeting in Artesa de Segre, in a recent TSF Newsletter. Well, I got an invite to this years meeting so I will be staying in Barcelona for some days too and popping over to France. When I finally get to the UK a very large and expensive Stamp Collection will be waiting for me to value and sell !! Mostly Commonwealth from some earlies with KGVI almost complete ! Early GB too as I understand. The collection was flown over from Canada to friends in London and just an hour ago he opened the packets to give me an insight about what there is !! The collection has a catalogue value of over $30,000 according to the owner with whom I have been talking to for more than 3 years. It's going to be an exciting trip ! Londonbus1

I ended up winning some lots off ebay (an old album of 3000+ WW stamps, British empire on Steiner pages). I have a lot to go through now.
The big lot did not have as many British empire I wanted and the others include recent. I may end up using 1/4 of them. For the Steiner pages, I I just took the pages and put them in my binder to save remounting immediately. I will not likely remount anything after 1980 or so. I will migrate the pre-1960 pages I had created myself.
