madbaker and coastwatcher, I am beginning to do this too. Also, so many old collections have stamps that still have remnant paper on them. They seem to have peeled the paper back from the edges so the perfs showed clearly and then mounted them as is. I found this a lot in a Dutch collection I am working on right now.

madbaker I have gotten into the habit of giving most all used stamps a bath, even if they looked good before, but had a hinge. I would rather soak than risk causing a 'thin". Mint stamps with hinges I cut of the 'flap" with a razor blade.... and yes I will give a small tug to see if it will come off before cutting

I've done absolutely no stamping (or Newsletter editing) lately. All my available time has been spent processing membership requests. I can't say with certainty but it seems the pandemic may be sparking renewed interest in stamps as individuals' routines are disrupted.

I was going to upload packets of stamps to trade on my website this morning, but the image hosting site that I use, vgy.me has had a server crash. If anyone else uses this site, they are working on a repair right now. They posted on twitter that there was a hard drive failure.
Anyways, I am FINALLY almost finished with breaking down and uploading my Great Britain and Germany collections to Colnect to trade. I still have some German and Australian states to do, then all of the stamps from countries that I no longer collect will be uploaded! And it only took about, ummmmm, 6 months! LOL I'm up to 26,500 stamps to trade, plus all the packets on my (currently offline) trading website. I make up packets with all the cheapies and seconds. I'm not initiating ANY trades until I finish because once I start trading, I don't make any progress in getting any organizing done. I've been going in circles like that for years, so I finally decided to get my ducks in a row. I was spending way too much time "recycling" duplicates - sending out packets and getting the same stamps back again. That's a waste of time, isn't it?
I have stuff to go out in the mail, but I can't put priority envelopes, packages or other items in my mailbox - they have to be hand delivered to the clerk at the post office. Hubby and I agree that those shipments are not critical and they will just have to wait until after the viral crisis is resolved. I try to get hand cancels when possible, but that won't be happening either. So chances are that if you get something in the mail from me, it won't be cancelled - they rarely are. I won't bother using good postage because of that problem - it would be wasted. Time to use up the old rates.
Today I think I'll finish going through my collection weeding out the yellowed Vario pages. I've found several HUNDRED so far, mostly size four clear and size three black. Size = number of pockets. If you have any Vario sheets, it is worth checking. I've found yellowing on the following sizes; Clear - Sizes one and four. Black - Sizes one and three.

I continued to work on the Netherlands last night. I have a number of semi-postals that I never mounted in my albums so I figured it was about time. For some reason I always seem to neglect the semi-postals. I can say the same for France where, again, I have a large number of semi-postals but never printed pages for them. This is something I will need to rectify as I might be moving onto France soon.

Got a little bit done during idle work moments.... got loose France, Belgium, Germany (and states) and Austria put away, and even came across a waylaid penny red! My Sunday morning soaking I will look at and probably put away and then tomorrow soak the next round before removing more stamps from pages. No unique finds today... but I really didn't look so I'd stay on task! Stay healthy and well everyone!

Like darkormex, I'm also working through a big envelope of Netherlands stamps. Quite a bit of duplication but there are still some lovelies in there. Nice postmarks and several colonies too. The rough sort by series is done; tonight I'm going to pick what stays and what leaves. Although I'm having way more fun with the Londonbus1 riddles. What a pleasant diversion they are!

I received a small collection of SQ's the other day, so I'm making up the album pages for them. I'm just keeping a very basic set if these. There are so many varieties of each. I chuckled at Steiner... the ONLY variety he includes is the 3¢ copper red perf 12-½, which is the most expensive variety of the lot! Deleted!
Still scanning stuff for postmark of the day...

I thought I had just about mounted my Costa Rican collection a day or so ago, but then I found some more. Today, naught stampy but for reading TSF, drinking wine, and listening to the Eclectic Rock station on Apple Music.
It did occur to me in the past day or so that I could replace the generic country maps with proper (coffee subject) stamps on my coffee roastery website, so I will be doing that over the next couple days.

Mmmm, coffee! I'm glad I bought a pile of coffee a while back. I still have 4 bags to go through before trouble starts up! (well, I do have instant (OK) and Keurig (passable, but just)

Easter Weekend Holiday BreakHere in the UK, we have a long weekend, which has been quite welcome. The non-stop nature/intensity of remote working has really been taking its toll on me lately. I think it may have been Aaron ( kasvik ) who recently posted about his similar experience. And like Mark ( madbaker ), I have been enjoying the riddles from Londonbus1 , although my successes there have been few. Seeing the answers worked out by the real sleuths has been well worth it in any case. So, what have I been doing, a day and a half into my break? Kicked it off by mailing the auction packet to brightonpete on Thursday afternoon, and yes indeed, Peter, you absolutely deserve tracking on this! First of all, because it's you (!) and second of all because you paid top dollar, so I want you to feel like you're getting your money's worth! Since then, I placed a couple of auction bids on two very nice classic Hong Kong stamps at UPA (Universal Philatelic Auctions) here in the UK for next week's auction. I won't tell you which ones they are, because I don't want to jinx my chances. If I win one or both, I will let all of you know. Apart from that, I have been ploughing through old collection lots acquired from the monthly Oxford Stamp Auctions, making feeble attempts to organize some of the material. I am slowly making headway, but it has been very slow. It's all too much and too disorganized.... it's fun but overwhelming all at the same time. I will continue on with that today, and see where it takes me. Stay stampy, all!

I have been going trough my Cape of Good Hope collection. Scanned all stamps and inventoried them in both Colnect and StampMate. Most of the duplicates I had was of different shades, so they went into the collection to. Now I'm of to a Hong Kong lot that also arrived yesterday. There might be some images in a HK tread later if I find something interesting or nice

Good luck with the auction next week Beryllium Guy ! I was pleased to see that Universal Philatelic Auctions has continued with their auction as scheduled, perhaps the auctioneer is Swedish ;-) In addition to submitting my own bids though, the lots containing items being de-accessioned from the Norwegian Postal Museum were of interest...
Happy collecting!

I have finally gotten around to creating a database for my Minnesota Postal History collection. Shown here are only a few of the 31 possible fields I have included in my database. I track where each cover originates and where it is addressed. In addition to accounting for which Minnesota post offices I have covers for it also helps me keep track of which cancels I have for each post office, so that if a cover with a different cancellation device/type shows up I know I need it for my collection. Of course it wouldn't do to talk about covers without posting a picture of one. This one was forwarded from Saint Paul to Minneapolis, MN incurring an obligatory three cents postage due (which is why it says Ford 3).

Very convenient to see the 1859 year included in the St. Paul postmark - most of these older US cancellations never show the year, it seems ...

Today I received Royal Mail's new 007 stamps from Beryllium Guy, from a trade the two of us made. It took a little while to get here, but I was patient. I really love UK stamps. Wish they were easier to get in Ohio.

Taking advantage of the morning light I was checking few pages of George V 1 1/2d brown watermarks. I left my beloved signoscope T2 in a different appartment, so I had to go through only with a good day light, but I have not encountered many difficulties. And now lunch !
