I must have ADD. I start something, but it doesn't take long to see something else & stray.
I finally started whipping up album pages for Grand Duchess Charlotte's many definitive issues. The first set (1921-1926) almost complete. See? Almost! I strayed online before it was done! About time I finish it, or at least part of it...

I finished designing & printing the Grand Duchess Charlotte's 2nd definitive series issue, with the high values, along with new value overprints & officials. Now I have to get around to mounting them. It's supposed to be a rainy day tomorrow! I then headed to the park for lunch, read a book & walk the 7 km loop. Here's the view from the picnic table, looking out over Lake Ontario. Then I did a mail check & my registered package from Postbeeld was in. A few stamps from Greenland, which is now pretty much complete to 1997. I'll collect 2 more years & will stop at 1999. Maybe pick up 2000 onwards if they are in an auction lot. And a pile from Expo '67, which I attended as a kid. So that's where the interest in it came from. Thanks to Postbeeld and APS StampStore for getting these to me! That just means more work in getting them all mounted now!

My Wife told me it was okay if I bought myself a birthday present so I'm now anxiously awaiting the arrival of an International Philatelic Exhibition Issue (White Plains) souvenir sheet (US Scott 630).
Apart from that, I've done very little "stamping" since my Wife's back surgery on the 21st of May as I'm discovering the role of caregiver is a full time job.

Not doing much on stamps lately. Enjoying the warm weather and keeping busy with gardening clients. As it is finally raining today, I might get a few small stamp projects cleared up.

I finally got around to mounting the 2nd series of Charlotte definitives from Luxembourg this morning & then noticed I had forgotten to include the 2 Heraldic Lion stamps of 1930. I'll just stick 'em in at the bottom of Charlotte's 2nd issue.
Then I went out for a mail check & found my 1908 Quebec Tercentenary was in. Yay! My Canada collection is gradually taking shape again. I did have a number of these stamps way back in the 70's, but I guess I sold them off to start something else. It's nice to have them back & then some!
It is a cooler & windy day out here. I am on a step challenge again this week with my Garmin watch/account, so I'll have to head back to the park to walk the loop again. I've been busy so far this week & have fallen way behind in my steps. But then I am busy with stamps, so it doesn't really matter that I'll never win these challenges. The leader won 2 weeks ago with >450,000 steps in ONE week. How is that ever possible?
Hope everyone has a good stamp kind of day today!

Last night I spent about three hours (stolen from my sleep schedule!) sorting an auction remainder lot. Twelve older Scott International (blue) albums, in fairly good condition. A non-smoker, thank goodness. The collector was fairly neat and correctly identified everything as far as I could ascertain, but the album pages are a bit scatterbrained--some Minkus and some home-made pages thrown in among the Scott two-sided pages. The years run from 1840 to about 1972.
I worked on Romania, Russia, Reunion. Lots of low-end material which I filled maybe 100 holes. Checked the catalogue (I have a 2010 Scott) and wow, how some of the early Russia go up in price! Generally the pages are only 10 or 20% filled, if that....a rather advanced-beginner, I would say. The price I paid per album, including auction fees and shipping (over $100 for the three big boxes) came to about $45 per album.
Roughly 5,000 or 6,000 stamps per album so if I fill a couple thousand holes for for, say, twenty cents a stamp it is worth it to me. One 1920's from Romania catalogued $60 but the majority are a dollar or two, with a very occasional five- or ten-dollar value stamp finding its way to me.
The "scavenged" albums will go to our stamp club auction when I'm finished, where they likely will fetch between $15 and $30 per album, as I leave probably 95% as is. This is my therapy, going through my collection with a new eye towards improving what I had. Especially fun is finding relatively common stamps but with interesting (or little-heard-of) circular date stamps! I am eager to swap out those, as I love a good "socked-on-the-nose" cancellation with a legible date, unsmeared of course. Anything unhinged or high-catalogue I will scavenge a mount to protect my "investment." This is probably the biggest collection I've gone through, size-wise, so it will take quite a while to "digest."
Tonight I may take pictures; last night was purely for my own relaxation!

jimwentzell - congratulations on your new aquisition. 12 albums x 5-6000 stamps in each - that's lot of fun, enjoy!! Count me in as well! The fascination with legible postmarks has evolved to a stage I study any CDS, trying to find 'new' places for my postmark collection. This takes lots of time, but it is virtually free of cost, because the best postmarks are often found on the most common stamps other just pass on.

I love CDS stamps & SON as well. It's just too bad that Canadian postmasters were advised to not do SON, which is why there aren't really that many of them. There are some out there, but most are off to the side.

Lots of nice postmarks in there. Really like the duplex '1' + Abergavenny. Never seen one-digit numbers in UK barred numerals before, sweet! Seems like an interesting box as well - enjoy!

Dammit, Janet! How will I advance in the step challenge this week. I headed out for a walk & my latest APS StampStore order was waiting for me!
I also bit the bullet & bought Luxembourg #7 with a nice SON. At least with this one, I'll have to wait a 2-3 weeks before it arrives.
Another bright, sunny day out, but I'll be in for a while now...

Haven't mounted a stamp in at least two months but it doesn't stop me from spending my hard earned dollars. The overprinted Newfoundland is more than likely a fake but then... The other two are the hard to get five holes officals a weak spot in my collection I'm working to correct.

I've been sorting through a lot I received over the weekend of Canada...lots of plate (inscription?) blocks, BOB, and some varied SINGLE mint stamps to replace used copies in my albums. Fun new stuff, and some stuff I'll probably offer up for trade. I'm in the process of transferring Canada stamps from an old Harris album to a new album of Steiner pages. I came to hate that Harris album. It ended around 2000, and it was disorganized. Stamp images in the wrong place, duplicate stamp locations on different pages due to supplements being added in poorly before it was shipped to me (and I bought it new!). And the pages are so damn thin. Ugh. I printed the new album on card stock. 3 volumes but that's ok.
I probably ought to get that 2017 supplement into my U.S. album sometime soon.

Finally started re-mounting the early Tuvalu definitives. Looking at them, it is easier to view the watermark against the dark desk I have, with my "Ott-Lite" on. They are dim, but they are there. Also, it helps with the different gums they used. I was going to put them up on blue pages, for the ocean that surrounds them, but instead opted for orange. (I have more orange than blue.)
(just in case you are wondering, orange is my favourite colour)

I spent much of the weekend transferring Swaziland and Bechuannaland (mostly GV era to 1980) stamps from from some Scott pages I purchased into my Steiner album. I was running out of mounts so placed an order Friday and they arrived yesterday but I missed one size so need to place another order soon.
Watermarks on British colony stamps always seem to be a challenge especially since most I check are used so hinge remnants and cancellations add to the challenge.

At the weekend I finalized plans for my trip to Europe in August. As some of you may know, I plan all my trips 'home' around Stamp events (as much as possible) and this one was no exception ! My second day in the UK will include a visit to the STRAND STAMP FAIR in London, usually full of good dealers and a great Fair. Two days later the monthly Fair in my local town Chelmsford in Essex. If all the dealers turn up then it is a good one. Sadly with this event, that is not always the case. Then a new Fair for me not far from Luton Airport where on Sunday 19th I will be returning my hire car. What a coincidence !! Held in a small village Hall in Slip End.....I hope I don't slip up trying to find it !! Then 5 days in and around London where I will spend time checking over the Commonwealth Collection I mentioned in the last post of the previous page. This will be quite exciting given the content and value..........and I can always pop around the corner to borrow a Gibbons catalogue.....from Stanley Gibbons !! (OK, maybe not !) On the 24th I fly to Barcelona (with the Collection, fingers crossed) and meet up with my friend of many years who I have never met in person. It will be a great moment and I look forward to seeing his amazing collection of Catalonia & Barcelona Cinderellas. On the Sunday, some of the day will be spent at the excellent Barcelona Stamp Market which I have been looking forward to for a long time. On Monday 27th we will go to the Melon Festival & Stamp Meeting in Artesa de Segre, 150kms from Barcelona in the beautiful Catalonian Countryside. I am sure this will one of the highlights of the trip. Or maybe not. One last little Philatelic meeting will take place in the South of France with one of the good members or our Stamp Forum !! I am sure we will talk about stamps at some point during the short visit..........maybe he will enjoy looking at the stamps I picked up in London. He might even help me in identification !!!! A couple of days later I fly back from Marseille. Now you must agree that was GOOD STAMP PLANNING !!!!! Londonbus1

All right, I finally found it, though, so here goes: I absolutely agree that it was "good stamp planning".... no, wait, check that, excellent stamp planning, especially because I know the whole story, like how you rearranged your whole itinerary so that the visit to Provence could work out! Thanks, LB1, many goodies await your arrival, philatelic and otherwise.... wine, anyone? As for the Barcelona Stamp Market, I have been there twice, the last time being 4-5 years ago. I found it to be great, and I hope that you will, too! Your trip sounds wonderful, my friend, and I can't wait to finally meet you!

Haven't done much stamping lately as yard work has taken up most of my available time. I was able to add two more covers to my hometown collection and one of them also fits nicely into my National Air Mail Week collection.

It's Monday so weekend recap.
This past weekend I was mounting more stamps from purchases of country collections on Scott pages. I ran out of mounts for two sizes so place an order for more - should be here today. British Africa and Caribbean are relatively easy to find on ebay. I have been adding Scott Numbers to the Steiner PDF's before printing so no longer writing them after - looks a lot better since I used to only write the number if I had the stamp. I missed the 15% off coupon for ebay so will wait for it again to purchase more Vario G binders..and need more shelf space. The labeling of albums is now temporary as I continue to outgrow - the B's are already in 2 binders and the A's and S's will go. Note: I have not focused on Australia.
I have got a lot of Scott Specialty pages (not sure all the varieties) but they do not have significantly more space than 8 1/2 x 11. Scott saves space by putting definitives butted to together in a block rather than individually spaced boxes. I do not see why some think they are the best.
