Decided to sidestep Sweden again, to revisit China. Previously, I had all my Republic of China mounted up, along with Peovinces, and never got to PRC. So, today was the day I'd start, actually tonight since we spent the day with the grandkids. I did manage to get 75 PRC stamps mounted, mostly reprints. I ran across 1 that I believe to be a genuine stamp.

spent the afternoon soaking mainly France and Austria, then finished up by de-paging more France and stacking more Austria, German States, and Italy in a neat pile of pages and reprinted a page for France Merson Peace in the garden overprints as I discovered a font issue - spread out the layout, and extended the size of box borders to give my old eyes some wiggle-room when affixing mounts. Tomorrow I will be chasing a small dimpled ball around the golf course, hopefully completing the task before it gets too warm (played in 99-100F heat on Friday.... it was brutal...., but I played well )

Received the July UPA catalogue (UK based) yesterday. 260 pages so will keep me occupied for a while .
Interesting concept, anything that is not sold is available at the following auction reduced by 15% so a bit like a dutch auction. Catalogue can be viewed online or you can download a pdf file. www.upastampauctions.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d1_Auctions.htmlCan be frustrating waiting for an item to reach a reasonable price only to find someone has bought it!

With the recent addition of several new cancels to the collection, I was doing some research and came across the abbreviation N.I.P.B. as it relates to hammer-proof dates,
I have reached out to the folks at Postal History Society of Canada who maintain the database and have asked what this is a shortened form of, but if anyone wants to hazard a guess in the meantime, please share...
Happy collecting!

Things are slowing down at work, so when that happens I take a pack of hinges with me and spend some down time "splitting" them, as in cutting them in half.
Also, planning on going through my disposition box and seeing if there any items that can be mounted in established albums. My disposition box is where I organize leftover stamps from countries I previously worked on but couldn't mount them right away for various reasons. Either I just ran out of gas on a country, ran out of proper sized mounts, needed to make a custom page or just simply needed to do some research on something. Time to play catch up tonight.

I've not been too stampy for some time now other than soaking off hinges of some GDR I had forgotten about. Preparing for entrance test and interview for my Degree studies here in Mumbai itself. Stay safe all!
Also, Welcome to all the new members!

I was asked to check over a “dormant” collection at the weekend . I.e one of those schooldays collections from 1950s which had lain in the attic for decades. The lady had no expectations of a fortune , just wondered if it was charity shop or dustbin stuff.
There were five small albums of the most common WW stuff totally unsellable duplicates not worth a couple of £ . I had almost given it up as a dead loss when I found a couple of pages of India 1947-49 hinged mint Gandhi lower values , (not the 10 r unfortunately )but also the poets set of six both fine used and light hinged mint.
A little hidden pot of gold in a pile of dross.
Also a run of 50 GB first day covers 1970-1985 with handwritten addresses in biro. These sadly are a drag on the market here in UK . Languishing in dealer’s boxes year after year priced at hopeful or hopeless 40p unless some one needs them to soak off for fine used.
Anyway I have suggested an offer price so we wait and see.

40p unless some one needs them to soak off for fine used. They are only fine used if they went through the mails. Otherwise they are CTO which the majority are. Most collectors of used GB want postally used, which is why the covers languish for so long in dealers' boxes. Sad really because many are so very attractive. I have loads here no longer wanted but here they will stay until I'm no longer around. (But they will be admired from time to time) !! On a sour note, not much stamping for me this week, just a few quick visits here to catch up. A back injury at work has forced me to spend the last couple of days on the floor in varying degrees of agony. But my specialist improved matters a bit this evening. Hopefully be back at the weekend. All packets mentioned in my previous post (Giveaways/promised) have been sent on Sunday. Fingers crossed the post is OK. One missed the mail ( Beryllium Guy ) and that will go as soon as I get a wee bit more mobility. My apologies to him. Happy Collecting everyone. Londonbus1

Well Michael if that is your definition these are all hand written addresses and cancelled with neat FIRST DAY OF ISSUE ABERDEEN cds .
they all went through the post so technically they are fine used by your definition.
however as each cover carries more than the minimum postage of the day they are philatelic items . if soaked off will have a part cancel only and look like CTO .
so what do we call them ? “Fine used”, “CTO” “philatelic used” “ First day non bureau cancels”

Well, this is an interesting development.... the Whatcha Been Stamping? thread untouched for nearly five days. Sitting near the bottom of page 2 on Recent Threads? That hasn't happened in a while. Time to give it a bump, methinks! In truth, I have not had much stamping time lately, due to a major project deadline at my work coming up next Tuesday. My last couple of weekends have been spent working on that project, and this weekend is no exception. When I have been able to find an hour here or there to think about stamps, I have spent it here on the Forum. Somewhere along the line, I did receive a small shipment of material from the local auction dealer, which included the Danzig overprint forgeries, so those are waiting for me when I am ready. I also received a healthy bunch of scans of more Danzig overprints from stainlessb (thanks, Stan!) that I will use for purposes of comparison when I start looking at those in greater detail. Well, that's my short break away from my work for the moment. I will take another break sometime this evening to talk to LB1 ( Londonbus1 ) about the proposed TSF virtual meeting, and I will post an update in that thread after we have kicked around a couple of ideas about it. Stay stampy, all!

On Friday evening, I went to the charity shop where I work as a volunteer, helping to assess colectible donations value. Due to covid and to the age of many volunteers, the shop has been locked since mid March. Nevertheless, we decided to open once a week to process and accept donations, as this is the time for many people to empty flats. I found a donation of a few cinderellas (some of which I bought for myself!) and took home a box of used stamps to see if there was anything worthy. It turned to be some very common stamps., that will go to the "5 cents/each" bowl. I even managed to find a few (cheap, but elusive) used stamps for my Western Europe country collections and a few Spanish colonies stamps, not that easy to find properly used. Yesterday I processed some of the stamps from the above box and today I've gone to our city (Barcelona) stamp market at the Plaça Reial, opened for the first time since mid March. There were just about ten shops with a lot of cautions taken against covid. The look was very strange, but we've to cope with it. Anyway, I managed to find a cinderella sheet for a proper price. Let's see the evolution on the forthcoming weeks.

I've finally been busy and have managed to get to the end of my USA collection album pages. I just need to write up 3 souvenir sheet pages and the final stamps of 1976 & I'll be done. But then I do like the definitives, so I'll have to make up this pages at some point, but 1920-1976 is pretty much complete for commemoratives. I'll have to get a bottle of Jack to celebrate! Yay, wahoo!
I am slow at getting things done, but the way I see it, if I get everything done quickly, I'll have nothing to do later!

Finalized 4 pages for the A5 - Ivory Coast River Scene (Ebrié Lagoon) stamps and mounted some - Presently I have some "holes" for his huge series and it is quite a challenge to find some missing stamps on the 3 sites I usually buy. Found some on Stampworld....but no seller - The way this goes.....project will last til X-Mas - Hope to post another completed series this week - René

Wouldn't you know it, Steiner does it again. Those large USA Bicentennial souvenir sheets issued in 1976, his boxes to place them are just wide enough, but there's ample room top-bottom. I should have just printed one out to see how they fit. Oh well... 4 pages and almost out of magenta ink. I'll leave it at that as it doesn't look that bad!

Stamping time for the short term has been supplanted by other projects in the short term, including replacing our the deck(s) on our house, developing a couple of web sites, and (of course) roasting coffee. I was high bidder today on what looks to be a nice lot of Colombian stamps.

Not sure about stamping, but I have been posting if this counter is any indication (although as of today, I see it reads - 1461),
The intent is to redeem those "posting points" for ice cream and beach walks over the coming summer months.
Ah, here comes summer and all the goodness that it brings...
Seriously though, I did finish writing and submitting another article for the TSF Newsletter, "The Anatomy of A Postage Stamp" and am looking forward to seeing and reading the next edition. I missed out on a few auctions, such as it is, some folks just have deeper pockets, but I was able to purchase a few items where there was no competition ;-) Finally, I have been noodling some philatelic/educational opportunities ever since nikhil shared his experiences on " Inpex- Stamp show in India" and spoke of 'Philately' as a subject to learn in school. I have some good leads to investigate this idea further given some additional input from several other agencies, let us see what we can make of this...
That's it, that's all, enjoy your summer!
P.S. Congratulations to hrdoktorx on his recent "Clear out lot Africa" win; you have a fine bunch of stamps there Xavier including the 1C. Ceres of Moçambique with its cliché n.º CCLXXXVII :-)

I spent time entering more information into Stamp Manage and relearned how to create reports.
StampManage has this "needed to complete" feature that can prepare a list of stamps not in your collection. Of course, the list completeness depends on having a complete listing of entries for countries. You can export this list to Excel or any number of other file types.
This is part of the goal of getting into trading or just selling. The other to do is inventory all my spares.

Punched holes in a lot of modern Australia pages, but mounted only a handful of stamps.
Onwards to printing pages for Cuba, since I acquired a nice lot of stamps from there recently.

At the moment I'm sorting out stamps from Montenegro. Scott talks of the 1874 issues as having broad teeth or pointed teeth. Can anyone tell me how I differentiate between the two? Fascinating stamps from Montenegro, and also Bosnia and Serbia, pre-1920.

Hi bushk2 - posted some Montenegro help for you here: thestampforum.boards.net/post/101232/thread I’m still puttering on my weakest collection, poor Austria! I’m missing oodles! I’ve never purchased a good Austrian collection, so most of what I have are not the best. BUT that’s great because I have a country that I should be able to trade for as I’m missing so many. Gotta see the potential, eh?

Made some pages for Yugoslavia Government-in-exile. I need some 36mm mounts/strips, but by next week sometime I should about have all of them mounted and completed! (it's nice to complete a "series) And I've stated on the next Sower denomination pages. Next by issue date is Sower with mound under feet- 2 types, two color shades ( I think I have 3 of the 4) then it moves to the first issued Semeuse camée 10 c, 3 Types which will require a legend page (as with earlier Semeuse lignée 10 and 15 c)
I expect I'll be working on the Sower series into early next year (or very close to it)
I think after I finish these pages, I will make a final pass through my study lots, and prepare them for some form of "exile" so i 'm not continually combing through stamps that i have now mounted, and can just focus on any new acquisitions. (and it will feree up a lot of binder pages)

I've continued to work on my country list - now working on Egypt... Slow progress! In the meantime I've also been playing with a little pet project to see if I can auto-generate a website based on my scanned stamp images and a little extra data. It's only got a few stamps so far, and still needs some major work, but I think it's coming together nicely: cjoprey.epizy.com/
