I got an invite from a member to attend a Florida stamp club zoom meeting to watch a presentation of hidden indecia on US stamps. The US issues over 40 stamps with hidden images that required a decoder (plastic filter) to see.

Well, I finally received a US Collection I bought about a month ago. There are some really nice stamps here, even a few that I actually need for my album. I got a lot more than I am showing, just showing the first few cards.
Only these 4 stamps have grills.

Some pretty stuff there Mike , mikeclevenger, my kind of collecting . Not a lot going on in my stamp world this week , I followed 3 single Samoa Express on eBay, won 2 but got oversniped on the 3rd . The first one has arrived and is very nice . I also had an item on eBay (not stamps this time) for sale which proved interesting to 2 inexperienced buyers who chased each other up step by step all week to 3 times my start price. With 19 individual bids, I was as excited as they were in the end. Meantime I have been preparing booklets for Club packet circuits to go out when the new season starts in September . I some how missed the deadline for a 4th July give away to our Americans , and only realised that Today is the Epsom Derby being run without spectators, If I had been more clued up I’d have run a sweepstake like I did earlier in the year. Oh well I might still get a 4 July give away organised by midnight .... watch this space.

Another day of soaking- a lot of Austria with the brown paper hinges, and for whatever reason, a great many of these stamps "roll up" when soaked, some into quite a tight roll... and when this is finished, I'll 'de-page' the next batch (more Austria).. and some Belgium My page-making efforts interrupted while I await some more mounts to arrive (hopefully this week) and an envelope of Italian stamps from darkormex to go through! (Thanks again Darrin!!)

I am finding it difficult to spend consistent time stamping. Three weekends in a row, my son and his girlfriend have been over for the weekend...a good thing that my adult son wants to come home every weekend...apparently we weren't the horrible parents we thought we were. But most of all, it is having to go back into work every week. I frequently don't feel like doing anything hobby related after I get home.

While everyone else is out celebrating the US Independence Day, blowing stuff up and what not, I opted to stay in and enjoy a relaxing 4th, adding about 250 Nicaraguan stamps to my album.

My cat is hiding under the bed, and one explosion caused a house finch to break its neck flying into a window.... I don't know why we persist in the tradition of "fireworks"... there will no doubt be a few "unintentional" fires tonight (there have already been a few... a garage, a field)
Pyrotechnics... a schoolboy's fascination with blowing things up I guess..... maybe latent pyromaniacs.....

I listened into a Florida stamp club webinar to see a presentation (I am 750 miles north) after an invite from someone and spent some time on the porch with my tablet and coffee to read back issues of Linn's and other publications online.

Today, I went to the Plaça Reial stamp market. There were more stalls and attendants than last week. I managed to find two cinderellas (one redundant) that I've already shown on two of the cinderella's threads and a dozen of used stamps (Austria, Switserland, Mònaco). On the afternoon I worked to clean a few foxy stamps and placed to be dryed. Tomorrow, I'll see if the treatment has worked.

cursus.....What kind of treatment did you use to clean your stamps ? I had a visitor last week from Tel Aviv who brought with him his solution and gave me a demonstration. It worked perfectly. I'd be interested to know how you did.

I'm at another stopping point right now. I just finished the first leg of Nicaragua, which is basically Steiner's first file that includes issues to 1940. Got a lot more to do ahead of me, past 1940, but I decided to stop here for now. I also have some side-projects to work on for Nicaragua, but those will wait as well. I'm actually running out of paper, as I am down to my last ream, so I'll have to be judicious on what I am using it for until I reorder.
So, for Nicaragua I have managed 707 mounted stamps, to 1940. That includes a number of issues I had to make pages for to accommodate those facsimile signature issues.
Where to now? Not sure yet. May do some more "puttering" until inspiration strikes, or I may do some more work on the ongoing Sweden album.

I know, I will look utterly rude and unsophisticate, but I just use a few drops of a standard (house-cleaning) bleaching product, diluted in tap water. Left the stamp/cinderella for a minute or two, and rinse with abundant runing tap water. As I haven't done for some time, I tried with a cheap (but, elusive) Swiss definitive and two common cinderellas. It has worked very well. So, I'll use the solution to clean some more cindis and stamps. Of course, I've easy access to these stamp-collectors aimed products (either in the Plaça Reial or at brick and mortar stamp shops). But, I'm an old-fashioned philatelist, that prefers to spend his rare money on cinderellas/stamps that lead me to study and write on them. And, I enjoy that!
That's what I aim to remain when I'm not longer here, not my poor collection.

Sorting Austria- both from soaking and stock pages (which almost seem like they were organized by the color of the stamp) Austria seems to have a lot of stamps... or maybe I just have a lot of Austria?!?
Next is a small pile of Italy, them back to France! after which more German States.
My ShowGard mounts should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday, so that will allow me to finalize a few pages, and maybe start staging some stamps for "exile"

It's summer! So I've been totally unstampy for the past 2 weeks, hardly even visited this forum. While catching up in this thread I noted darkormex 's comment: I feel for you, I am in the same boat. I was home/onshore on vacation for 2 weeks and did't get to touch a single stamp. So now it's about time to get some progress. Heading back out to work offshore today, and hoping for quiet days work-wise and time to get started on my next project: Mauritius. Just like spain1850 mentioned earlier, I would like to relax with a less extensive project, and Mauritius seems just about right

Finally getting around to one of those tasks that have been nagging at me for a while now. That's gathering up all of my US Postal cards that have been accumulating for years, and sort, identify and organize them, at least in a single box for now. Still trying to figure out how I want to go about their final disposition. Do I want tpo mount them on pages, like the rest of the collection? Clear pages? Cover books? Clear sleeves? I don't know yet.
Meanwhile, I started my next country, which will be a fairly easy trip since I don't have much. Started mounting Ceylon.

This year is the pits! SIGH! Not much stamping or using the computer for a few days as I have Iritis - eye problems. I’ll be back soon. I can only look at the screen for a few minutes, so will answer messages and such when I can see again.

I've started to create custom pages for Mauritius. Good fun, it's certainly a very interesting collecting area. Now I am considering wether or not to include spaces for some inverted 'Postage & Revenue.' overprints that are not listed, hmmm.... Maybe some of you guys can help cast some light on them? See THIS thread.

Not much stamping going on here - it's been too bloody hot and humid the last few days. I had taken a break from here for the past week, but I agree... just too hot to be bothered doing much of anything, other than complaining to the post office that a package 30 km's down the road has been stuck there for the past week. When will it arrive? Can I drive there and pick it up? Sheesh, when will this heat wave break?

Tonight I put the binder for Austria back on the shelf. The bulk of 'the bulk" is not in the Varios, grouped by series, (not by date) and now I can finally turn my attention back towards France (and there's still a backlog of France, Belgium, Germany, and Italy to put away) but a rest from Austria is most welcome (for a while at least)
... and as I'm typing this I notice "several" stamps in little clusters that I missed.... they may be relegated to the back burner for a day or two
and so it goes
tomorrow is another day
stay healthy all!

I entered my first country wish list into Colnect. Is there a limit for people who are not premium members? The premium membership is $82 per year. For other countries, I need to create the want list in StampManage. Colnect does not seem to have any way to upload a list but still learning the features.
It has been over 90 all week which is not unusual for this time and can go into September.

Got Italy put away today- it wasn't really my plan, but it wasn't too large a "pile" (and there are more in the drying stack) and received these over the past few days I got this to add to a page of my almost completed Merson series for a page of stamps "saved for their cancellation" and a pre-cancel seemed a must! These are for a Yugoslav Government in exile. I have to give thought how to lay out page for the blocks of 4 with one being horizontal... whether to seek a vertical block... or whether that's all that important (?!) a couple of flaws here to work on... I have the remaining singles and overprints "en route" great stamping weather >100F through the end of next week...

I had just finished album pages for Germany 1993, where I decided to stop. But on looking for the 1993 buried in a stockbooks, I found a lot of stamps & souvenir sheets from 1994-2000. So I might as well dig in & do the album pages for those as well. I just received a bunch of modern USA in the mail today, so tomorrow, I'll be mounting those. I've also decided to extend my USA collection past 1976 & go to 1981, so I'll be busy with those album pages too.

Still working on Ceylon. Not sure why it's taking me so long. I guess outside influences are starting to get to me a bit.
When I started my worldwide journey, I spent quite a bit of time going back and forth about how I wanted to present my collection. I ultimately decided on a combination of "print your own" album pages and custom pages, over preprinted albums and stock sheets/books. But I never fully had my mind up with how I wanted to present cancellations and postmarks, only that I wanted to pursue them as collateral material to my country collections. So far, all I've been doing is stashing nice cancels away in country identified envelopes. But the problem is that they cannot be seen in those envelopes, and some I haven't even looked in since I started so I have no idea what's in them.
I do still want to mount them on pages when I get a game plan together, but I would really like to be able to see them in the meantime. So, I've decided to start utilizing black stock pages for temporary storage of cancels. My idea is to have one (or more) stock pages at the back of each country collection, that I can slip nice postmarks in when I find them. Then I can use the sheet to test arrangements when I get enough of any country. Then I can transfer that arrangement to a printed page layout.
Up until now I've been steering clear of stock pages as substitutes for album pages, but this way allows me to use them more as a tool than an album page. It also provides me with an easier way to scan stamps for the postmark calendar. Another plus, for me, is that I can relieve some of the congestion in my "to do", or "disposition" box and make more stamps available for viewing.
I've got about a dozen pages laying around here somewhere and will be starting this project this weekend........along with mounting Ceylon.
Sorry for the longwinded post. I figured if I didn't put it down in writing I might not remember to follow through with it...haha.

Hello everyone! I’m finally getting back to my stamps after a week with miserable Iritis - inflamed red eyes. Ouch! I still can only look at the iPad or PC monitor for short spans so it will take me a bit of time to catch up here. Can’t wait to see the ship cover thread additions! Keep ‘em coming! Love that thread!
I have been able to soak a few stamps and putter a bit yesterday and today. I’m celebrating my birthday today, so I took advantage of the event to put in bids on some goodies. I can’t wait for them to arrive! I worked on Austria quite a bit this month and noticed the paucity of my affiliated Austrian areas like the offices abroad and Bosnia & Herzegovina so put bids in on a few collections.
Yesterday a very small collection of Vatican arrived that I bought only for the early used material. All the mint sets from the 60s and 70s will be traded or given away.
Time for eye drops ... happy stampin’ my friends!

With warmer weather, the cooler mornings are perfect for exploring the collection of B.A.E. II material including postal markings, i.e. hand cancels, machine cancels, varieties between the first and second cancellations, penguin cachet differences, delayed text differences, etc..
and then only to discover there was a second issue (Scott n.º 733 vs. 753); it gets complicated... Happy collecting!
