not as much as I thought i'd "stamp" today- more Yugolslav Government-in-Exile stamps arrived today (the ones from the souvenir sheet, no overprints), a very nice centered set! And I won an auction for Merson 1923 Congress Philatelique overprint... and I had to pay for it otherwise my day was hijacked by watering needs outside (it's damn hot here!) and finishing a shelf for the pantry (another shelf) to hold 1/2 gallon canning jars with dry goods (beans, sea salt, rice, etc.,) This is needed as our beloved manx kitty is very good at catching rodents, and normally eats them, but occasionally after she brings them into the house they get away..... so the jars are rodent proofing!) Today "kitty" brought in a field mouse (or a young rat... ) and proceeded to play with it.... took my wife 215-20 minutes to finally hockey -puck the little vermin out the back door with a broom..... which I really think the cat found amusing?!?

I spent much of the day yesterday looking at Machin paper types (OCP vs FCP) using UV lights. I am still not sure I can identify them reliably. I also received some Nyasaland stamps from seller on Stamporama.

FORGERY day! I’m busy learning how to identify early Venezuelan forgeries which are really rather plentiful. I’ve been doing beginner research and I purchased some inexpensive auction lots that I’m pretty sure contain a few faux. Today I lucked out and won a group of 11 Fournier forgeries, too. Yay! I’ll post some pics of the forgeries plus any that I identify in the Venezuelan thread soon.
Does any one else find forgeries to be almost more interesting than the genuine article?

I actually feel productive today, even in the shortened time I had alloted.
I got a page of Ceylon postmarks scanned in, started sorting through 5 lbs of German Kiloware (all Hindenburg issues on pieces of parcel cards) and printed pages for Basutoland, and mounted all the stamps......a whopping 37 stamps! But hey, at least it's one country closer.

On Saturday I worked a little on my side-collection of Spanish colònies. Yesterday, I went to our stamp market. There were some more stalls than the previous Sunday. Among them my cinderella supplier and I was able to buy 3 Scandinavian items (already shown on the cinderellas area) and a Catalan one. Just to keep the thing going on...

I am trying to update my USA spreadsheet today, as I acquired a fair number of stamps recently.
No matter how many times I tell myself to proof-read the pages as I design them, I fail to do so, or even to note errors. There are so many that it isn't funny. I'll carefully overwrite where I can, or just cross out wrong dates &/or catalogue numbers. Christmas in June? I don't think so. I'm just at 1965 now, I hope there aren't too many more! Now to update the spreadsheet, I need the catalogue open to make sure everything is correct!

brightonpeteI have a similar challenge and had tried different methods to add notes. The most common was a post it note on the page telling me what I needed to do since I could not remember them all.

Better than a crossword or sudoku puzzle, I plated the Penny Black currently being given away by Hipstamp.com,
Ruling out Plate 11, does anyone else think that this is from Plate 5?
Happy collecting!

The last several nights I have been removing paper from modern US stamps with pure citrus, cataloging and putting on stock pages. Note to self...don't leave the window open all day thinking "There isn't any wind, my stamps will be fine!"....

A month ago, I told everyone I started re-organizing a collection of France I purchased some time ago - a month later, still at it; now up to 5 volumes with the remounting and re-organizing plus buying a few items here and there to fill in gaps and replace defective stamps. Still fun, I think, but other projects beginning to mount up.

back to sorting France to Vario's. I picked all Sower and Sage, so they are done (with the exception of the few stragglers I missed, and those sent to the TBS (to be soaked) pile).... now there's everything else, some of which is more "modern" than I will likely keep, so a give-away is in the works!
waiting in the wings, Belgie, German States (more) and Austria (more, but mainly newspaper stamps and blocks thereof)
And piles to soak......

I ordered a new USB microscope for stamoing and now returning it. I had software issues and the image quality was not as expected.

angore Al, who's scope did you have issues with? I had to return an Amscope (twice) due to software issues. Although they said their camera would work with IOS... it didn't. They were at least easy to work with!

Mine is Celestron, the cheaper of their two models. Works adequately on my iMac.

The brand was Annlov and purchased based upon the reviews. I have a Celestron but was looking for something better. I could not capture a picture from my PC using the software but could save it on SD Card. The image quality was disappointing.

I can do both & I've found the image quality to be spot on. Here's a sample image... This was just a test of the zoom, it can get quite close to what you are looking for!

mine is USB, no SD card, software works well on a Mac, though I find their lines and circles cumbersome to add, so I do that in Adobe illustrator. If I need a full image of a stamp it's back to the scanner at 2300 dpi @ 64 bit, and Ican zoom in pretty good with it, but not quite as sharp as I can with the scope

brightonpete My Celestron is not as good as yours and one issue is that the camera has autogain lighting so hard to adjust the brightness to desired level. The one I returned was not much better plus the buggy software from a 3rd party. I think I may prefer one with off angle light control.

The lighting on mine is direct, but the brightness can be adjusted. And here it is in the darkness of the dining/living room with the curtains drawn. Plus the filthy screen that I didn't notice until just now!

Busy busy here with the house plus trying to catch up after a few sick days. Gearing up for trading - BUT - got sidetracked - ummm more like derailed - because one of my birthday presents arrived - an Austria collection. Wow - I filled a lot of empty spaces which is always such a nice feeling! And the hinges were peelable! Yay!
Strangely, the Austria collection that I bought, which is mounted in a Scott’s National Binder, included about 20 pages of MNH Tuvalu sets. Now that has me baffled. That is one strange arrangement. Those Tuvalu were a complete surprise. I don’t collect them, but I’m sure I’ll be able to trade them. Anyone interested?
A Venezuela lot arrived and I discovered quite a few forgeries. While I do enjoy forgeries, I do NOT appreciate finding them in a lot that was advertised to contain a certain catalog value. Most dealers are good about correcting oversights like that so I’m not very concerned.
I’m getting close to 1000 posts! Wowzer!

philatelia I have found many of the mint Austria (and there lots of mint Austria stamps out there... sometimes a cancelled one is almost unusual to find) to let go og hinged without much of an issue, EXCEPT those paper white with a red end , and/or the brown paper hinges... they are even hard to soak off and I especially like when folks used a black tar-ish glue of some sort... it's almost permanent! Today after it became too warm for me outdoors (about 12:30) I got most of the last soaking batch sorted and put away. Down to early Austria which needed to be checked for perforations. My work area is almost looking organized!!
