Heavy smoke here in Vancouver today. The sun is shining but it can`t be seen. The smoke is coming up from California. It`s supposed to rain tomorrow. I sure hope it does.

Have spent most of the day going through the purchases I made online in June and July. These were sent to my son in California and he eventually sent them to a contact in Florida who flew back to Ecuador yesterday.Having someone bring items to Ecuador is probably going to be the only way to acquire stamps in the future.Courier services like Fedex and DHL are expensive and items always seem to be taxed at customs.I am still missing 5 registered letters from France and 2 from UK,all of which appear to have reached USA and then have gone missing. I am surprised at the number of letters which arrived with uncanceled stamps, mostly from US sellers. Hopefully I can post some of my new acquisitions in the upcoming days. Anglobob

DDR Album pages for 1980 are finally done. Ten pages, one year! Good grief! I wonder how big this collection will eventually become.
Slow, but somewhat steady. I alter Steiner pages to suit me & the way I like stamps displayed.

Today more progress on sorting France into Varios- no big surprise (actually of lot of the same), but did add some mint stamps to previously used only- To break the monotony, as the pages I'm pulling out of are for the most part in no particular order, and my "to be soaked" pile has grown as there were many on paper or with particularly stubborn hinges
I took a break by prepping some chili peppers into the dehydrator to powder, also some chives (short turn in the dehydrator, then into vacuum bags and into the freezer), and saved some vegies for getting a bit overlooked and pickled 2 quarts of Cauliflower, carrots, onions and peppers. (this will be interesting... I hope) I was going to make spicy sauerkraut (fermented) , but pooped out. Fortunately cabbage has a pretty good shelf life
too smoky still to go outside much more than a quick dash to turn on/turn off water and pick peppers and chives

Today has been quite eery in Vancouver - according to Global News this morning, our air quality was the worst in the world after Portland, Oregon. Some rain would be a welcome relief - cleaner air for us, and more importantly it would help put an end to the nightmare happening in California and Oregon, the destruction has been unbelievable.

Finished mounting most of my recent purchases. Now that I am keeping track, I changed/created 30 album pages.
I have some used GB stamps but like many albums only provides spaces for pairs and blocks for se-tenants so need to modify a few pages. For horizontal strips, I will just use a strip but not does not look well for blocks.

I worked on the 1977 and 1978 USA album pages this morning. 1977 is now done, 1978 will be done another day. Got out this afternoon for another Canada Army Run Commander's Challenge (5K & ½ marathon) training session. It ended at the Presqu'ile Point Lighthouse on Lake Ontario. It was a bit choppy on the lake today. A light day tomorrow, then more on Friday. I was planning on doing the challenge on Saturday, but I have yet to receive my race pack in the mail. C'mon Canada Post! And on top of that, the morning low is 0°C with frost, so it'll be slippery out. Last year when I did the ½ marathon, it was a humid 28! After heading to the post office, I spied a parcel card in my box. Yay, my race pack arrived! And we now have until the 27th to do our race, due to the very smokey west. Still looking at this Saturday though.

This episode of Watcha Been Stamping is brought to you by Hey, Look, There's a Squirrel! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmAyYauGtFA)
This week, the schizophrenic stamper has loaded stamps from Argentina, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela into stock books, and mounted an undetermined number of stamps in to New Zealand and Australia albums.

received some trade stamps today from Chris ( Beryllium Guy ) (posted in another thread), otherwise relishing in the first day in weeks that the sky is blue, the sun is a burning yellow ball in the sky, and it doesn't smell like smoke! I have to to go to San Francisco tomorrow - business (a somewhat sad sign of the times when this is news.....) and today their air index was 6!! ! I have rerouted my drive to go across the Golden Gate (I'll get a picture!) Tomorow is forecast to be as good almost normalcy..... whatever that is I feel like a stranger in strange land it was reportedtoday over 5.2 million acres have now burned on the collective west coast (over 3.2 in California) but I'm told it will cool down soon........

I finished sorting the Ifni collection bought on Sunday. At the end, I found about 70 new stamps for my collection, many more than my first guess. Now, I finishing placing the duplicates for trade. With some luck, I'll find some more next Sunday.

I am waiting for some stamps to arrive so have been renaming all my album page to match the Steiner PDF. O have combined and sorted them so not original page numbers.
I am always listening / watching something while stamping so now I have been listening to oral histories by Vietnam vets on youtube. So far, the majority have been Marine grunts but there was one who was a lieutenant and retired as a colonel who had also written a book on leadership and noting the decline of leadership (not just in the military).

Yesterday, I spent some hours helping on our Gràcia (Barcelona) thrift charity shop, to get it ready for the post-covid opening, scheduled for early October. As, on the same street two antique-thrift shops have already closed due to covid crisis, customers are looking forward to come. With some luck, I'll get the chance of assessing the value of stamp and cinderellas collections (and buying some for myself). I've finished arranging my Ifni duplicates. I'll be placing them for trade on the forthcoming days.

Nothing much happening here. The last of Hurricane Sally crawled by. The squirrels are back in the pecan savaging immature nuts, making a lot of irritation and a frightful mess. Here is a pretty Geneva telegraph stamp with an exceptionally dark regular postal cancelation (inverted)--I guess someone grabbed whatever was handy--and what I take to be a nicely centered Gävle machine cancel.

Thank you kasvik for showing the nice cancellation. I did not even know that machine cancels of this type existed (It appears to be cancellation (Nst) type 10), but I must admit that my knowledge of Swedish machine cancels, especially prior to the 1940s is pretty bad. For me, the stamp activity has been low so far this week, plans for the weekend include soaking off stamps collected in mail between 2005-2015 and taking care of my improved Danish collection (Thanks again classicalstamps ).

I decided it was time to tackle my drying stack that I have been eyeing for several weeks.... so I took the pieces of plate steel off I use to press everything only to discover a neatly stacked pile of "blotters" and no stamps... oh silly me, but none the less i was quite happy to discover this, even though my excitement quickly dampened when I looked at the TBSB (To Be Soaked Bowl)... well, at least everything is in readiness so having used that 'get out of jail free card', I went back to sorting France and putting stamps I received from Beryllium Guy in trade into binders/Vario [pages. Several German States I need to make labels for the Vario pages. I am anxious to get all the France sorted out so I can make a final sweep through the earlier Sower issues and then ready those for trade or sale (it will be a sizeable study lot for several of the denominations. Same for the 5 centimes Sage Type II and III of which I easily have several hundred stamps to go through Getting this done would free up a number of pages! Weather report- the sky is actually blue today and no sign of smoke (though there are many fires still burning, the smoke is all being pushed... well, east...sorry folks)

Unfortunately, not that much today. But this is the day I picked for my Virtual Canada Army Run Commander's Challenge. That is one 5K and one Half Marathon. Most combined the two, but that would be quite a bit of walking in one fell swoop. Besides, I wanted to compare the half marathon time with last year's effort in Ottawa. Last year, I managed it in 3:05:11. This year... 3:21:31. A bit slower, but there was no infrastructure in place. I had to manage everything. Also, there was about a 25 degree Celsius difference in temperatures today! 3 or so at 6AM when I did the 5K. Almost finished! Phew! Now I am enjoying a freshly brewed coffee! And now I can get back to stamps!

The last two weeks I have been working to put together a India collection. With the pages that Jon blaamand has made, it was a pleasure. But India is demanding on all it's watermark, but that is also a part of the fun. I don't think I have examined so many stamps for watermark in two weeks before. I also put together a duplicate book, as I do trade a lot (trough Colnect.com) I need to know what I have and where to find them. I ended up with 486 different stamps from 1856-1970. I have 255 different duplicates and I miss 431 ( at last) different stamps. Some images below to show collection, up to 1946 on blaamand-pages and after that on Leuchtturm Grande (format 242x321mm / 9 1/2" x 12 1/4") pages. Then a image from my duplicat stock book.

Then after India I went to Pakistan (collection). This is a lot easier. Not to many watermarks, but some redrawn stamps and overprints to be were of. And it is a shorter period, start in 1947 and I collect to 1970. Collection 228 different. Duplicates 51 Missing 162. Pakistan collection is mounted on Grande pages. And for the duplicates i went for a very simple setup with only some space pr year. Duplicates.

Today, I went to the stamp market and found a nice 1980 Barcelona cinderella sheet, already shown on the "Stamp exhibition, Europe" thread. Not many internet (neither Stamporama, nor e-bay) purchases lately. Waiting for the reception of two lots.

I spent a quiet Saturday, mainly at home doing stamps. Happily, I was able to get a couple of mailings packaged up and over to the Post Office. One was some GB for Joan ( cursus ) and the other a special one for Xavier ( hrdoktorx ), which he mentioned in the Stamps on Stamps topical thread. I hope that those will arrive in good time at their destinations. Then I spent the balance of the day re-doing my classic Denmark stock pages, thanks to the great giveaway treasure trove from Morten ( classicalstamps ). I am away from home for a couple of days just now, but when I get back, I will scan those pages and post the results in a Denmark thread. Other than catching up a bit on TSF, no other stamp activities are planned for me for today or tomorrow. On Tuesday morning, however, I will get to visit a nice stamp shop here in Bath, and I am planning to make a post about it afterward. I found some very nice classic HK and India when I visited there back in February, so looking forward to going back! Stay stampy, all!

I starting working on a Cayman Islands collection I purchased. I discovered the original owner had used what was luckily a special mounting tape to mount quite a few of the stamps The tape easily peeled off and did not leave any detectable residue except on one stamp. The majority had been previously hinged with a traditional hinge anyway.. The few mounted with a traditional hinger did not remove cleanly. I was prepared to return the lot. The souvenir sheets were mounting in glassines used like end mounts with the glassine attached with...tape. Many sets were still in glassines so those look ok
This collection was on Minkus pages (had not seen many of them) and though the layouts made more sense than Scott.

Yesterday and today I have been and will work on Chilean stamps. I had to buy more 31mm mounts to accommodate the large format commems Chile issued in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
I spent most of yesterday and today, however, painting the door frame of our back door so that when an installer comes to install our new back door tomorrow, the paint will match the windows on the other parts of our house. I also made vegetable soup after making my own vegetable stock and made a loaf of banana bread. Apparently, I did not make enough of the banana bread, however, because my wife decided to make two additional loaves. She is probably right because the first loaf I made this early afternoon is almost half gone! That's what happens when your college student is living at home rather than attending classes in person.
That all done, I am looking forward to starting on stamps for the evening.

Today started with no stamps- the sky was blue, no smoke so I went and played golf.... as did many others and it was a bit "slow" moving. As the afternoon wore on the smoke drifted back in and it is once again smokey (both visually and smell), so, I will spend the rest of the day laying out some pages for France, Marianne issues, both 44-45, and 45-47 and the four engraved issues. once I have this completed and mounted I will have a fair sized "study lot" should anyone be interested. PM me and we'll find a trade of some form or fashion that works for us both!

I just ripped out the pages containing all the Belgian stamps from this old Statesman album and I am going to start identifying them in the catalogue and see if I can fill some spaces on my printed pages. Anybody else working on Belgium at the moment?
