just finished sorting some older Canada I had tucked away. Looking them up in my newly-acquired, 2017 edition Scott catalogue (C to F) I see quite a few price increases for earlier material both mint and used (pre-1950). However some Prince Edward Island and other provinces had nearly no change in catalogue vales since 2011.

I, in an unusual burst of energy, tidied my stamp room. I found a desk!! And for my part, I found a stamp room! Not that it was missing, it was just unfinished. I put a room in the basement almost 5 years ago and immediately had a lazy attack and made the decision to do nothing further, for whatever reason. So I finally got the ambition to finish it and now there are 4 bookcases and 23 CD racks and a filing cabinet thing with a shelving section above it and 2 big tables and another little table and other assorted nonsense, and pretty much everything stamp-related that will fit is now down there instead of up here (although some of it will have to continue to live upstairs, at least until I decide to throw away the idea of having a TV in the corner downstairs, at which point I could fit in two more bookcases). My books are no longer stacked in piles on the floor, they're in the cases and I can actually find what I'm looking for rather than guessing which pile it might be in. Although Calgary has relatively dry air I had worried a bit about having a stamp room in the basement and still hadn't decided to build a room after having lived in this place for 15 years, just in case there might some day be a moisture problem. But the mother of all floods hit us in 2013 (costliest natural disaster in Canada's history at the time, 100,000 people evacuated in the region) and I didn't get a drop of water or a hint of sweat in my basement so a couple of months later I went ahead and got started on it. It's pretty much done now, still a few random piles of things I was working on at the time, though (like putting all of my US State precancel catalogues into binders, that's the next box of stuff to be properly put in its place). At the same time, I went ahead and filled most of the rest of the house with more bookcases and if nothing else, I confirmed that I have far too many books. 275 linear feet of storage now, and still not enough bookcases .... BTW, My sister lives in Calgary and do not hear much positive about the variable weather! I do need some more bookshelf space. And I love the weather here. It can get bitterly cold in the winter but with the Rockies an hour to the west it seldom lasts long before we get a chinook that warms up everything. The temperature in the winter can be pretty much anything - some years at Christmas it's -30°C and some years it's +15°C. We had a morning last year where one end of town was 18°C / 32°F warmer than the other end because the warm weather hits the west end before it gets to the east. Plus we get more sun than any city in Canada. Yay! The only real bad thing is the way we get repeated hailstorms in the summer. Golf ball-sized hail here the day before yesterday, I've twice had my car pummeled to death in the past so an essential part of house shopping the last time around was getting a place with a garage so I can park indoors. I generally do not get to do much stamping in summer for a variety of reasons. Mainly, I want to be outside as much as I can. So the stamp desk tends to pile up and left alone. This week, because of the hot gross humid weather, I have been inside organizing that overflowing desk. After the first five minutes I was overwhelmed and ready to give up and do some Netflix bingeing . No, I stuck through and broke it down in smaller tasks. Yah, after a few days of intermittent work I have accomplished a great many things. Mainly the desk is cleaned off and organized. Some items have been cataloged and organized ready to mount. Got some stamps ready for exchanges . Even took time to look at stamp mounts and now am ready to order so I will have a full supply to work with later on. Today’s project is to better organize my shelves then my boxes of stamp « stuff ».
Also have taken time to really read Forum activity and reply to new members.
Happy Stamping to all, David

David, I'm glad to see that you set aside some time for the Forum! Today I scanned some covers that I'd acquired for their machine cancels and mounted a set of Luxembourg semi-postal stamps in my International album. I can't remember when the last time was that I put anything in the Internationals -- it felt good.

Still to horrible to do anything outside so I have been working on the « small » stamp projects. I was going to walk to postal outlet and mail a few things. Maybe after dinner when cooler. I could drop at post box one street away but I want hand cancels on this letters. I find that if you have more than one stamp on an envelop they do not get cancelled or butchered with a black marker. A few more things got sorted for trades and exchanges. Got mounts ready for the Machin Collection. Just need to top up on ink to print pages and I will be ready to roll. This is much more fun than cleaning out utility room.
Happy Stamping all.

I, in an unusual burst of energy, tidied my stamp room. I found a desk!! (like putting all of my US State precancel catalogues into binders, that's the next box of stuff to be properly put in its place). Ryan There are separate catalogs for each state? I had thought about starting on Precancels because I bought a fairly large collection many years ago. They are still just sitting in one of my cabinets, waiting for me to start of course. I have also bought many lots of extra precancels, just in case. LOL. I have the old Federal Precancel book set also. ( Name may not be right though).

In the olden, golden period of precancel stamp collecting, there were catalogues that attempted to list every style of precancel type and every individual stamp on which it could be found. As a general rule, that's no longer the case - it's thought that there are now somewhere around 1.5 million to 2 million different stamps if you want to collect that way! The last general catalogue which tried to list every different stamp & cancel combo was the Hoover Bros. catalogue which ran out of steam right around the start of WWII. The two most common catalogues now are the Bureaus catalogue (for US Government-issued precancels) and the Town & Type catalogue (for local issues). The Bureaus are popular to collect for a couple of reasons - first, they're printed mechanically so they look nice, and second, the minimum order for the precancels was fairly large so for the most part they're relatively easy to come across. Town & Type precancels are sometimes properly printed but sometimes they're just handstamps, and those are often difficult to read (and sometimes T&T precancels are outrageously rare), so usually the beginner collector likes Bureaus better. The Bureau catalogue lists every stamp & cancel combo as those are fairly limited in scope, around 9500 different. The Town & Type catalogue lists every precancel style on every town, but there are no listings for different stamp types / denominations (T&Ts are where you end up with millions of different stamp / precancel combos). Anyway, blah blah blah - State precancel catalogues exist for most states. For the most part, they're like the old Hoover Bros. catalogue, attempting to list every combination of stamp type with precancel type. Some of these catalogues are just checklists and some are priced, but the majority of them are getting quite old, 60+ years, so the prices are only relative anyway. You can find a listing of State precancel catalogues on the Precancel Stamp Society website - modern catalogues for Alabama & Montana are available for download. The Precancel Stamp Society website is filled with info on precancelled US stamps (also, they are the publisher for both the Bureaus catalogue and the Town & Type catalogue mentioned). Of particular interest to those thinking about starting a collection are the following two booklets available online: An A.B.C. of Precancel CollectingCollecting United States Bureau PrecancelsAnd to get an idea of how much precancel literature there is out there for US stamps, have a look at the publications list on the PSS site (for currently available stuff) and the list of literature on Michael Hynes' website (mostly for old, out-of-print books, also for some non-PSS editions). Thanks Ryan. Unfortunately I have short term memory loss, so I forget a lot of the time. As I read what you wrote above, I remembered some of it. It has been a few years since I was looking for precancels. I have the very old Bureau books and I do believe there is an old price guide also. I will have to look in that cabinet. I started collecting the Cincinnati / Dayton Ohio area, which is what got me started. I grew up in that area, but now I live in Savannah, Ga, so I also buy Savannah precancels. I do remember about the T&T stamps being harder to find and I especially like the older hand cancels, that are arched, from Cincinnati, they just look good. I don't have a lot of those, but I have plenty of Bureau's. So, I think i will just start with the T&T of Ohio & Georgia and see where it takes me. I am running out of Ohio Tax stamps to buy, so I must go back to my other areas to take up the slack. Thanks for the info.
Mike.

I purchased two Scott albums for British colonies but so far it has been disappointing. I paid too much. The good news most are mint with hinges but the owner used Dennison mounts so most coming off very cleanly.
The two albums themselves are in great condition since it did not have that many stamps. I hope I can find a good home when I remove the stamps.

I just finished up cataloging all my topical stamps using excel. This does not include any stamps in albums. These are individual pages of stamps and their descriptions. They are in 20 large 3 ring binders and contain over 4,000 individual pages. Took me a month but was a great way to review what I had.

I have printed almost 1500 album pages as I just received my 4th 500 sheet ream. Now, I do not have many stamps one some of these pages but the majority has at least 1 since I generally print on demand.

Last night I added a few "souvenir sheets" from odd places I generally DON'T collect, to my general worldwide collection. I had stored them in dealer counter books (small binders) hoping to sell. They never sold.
Places like Ajman, Albania, Bulgaria, Cuba, FS&AT, and more.....generally but not all sometimes referred to as "wallpaper" since they were obviously intended to soak collectors as they are all unused or Cancelled To Oder (CTO). But I needed the space in my counter books as next week I am renting a table at the nearby Gwinnett County club has an annual philatelic show/bourse.
The local show/bourse used to be called Buttpex (Button-Gwinnett Phil Ex.) but due to a lot of jokes and snide comments it has been renamed Gwin-Pex. Either way, the metro-Atlanta county of Gwinnett was named after a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica:
Button Gwinnett, American merchant, patriot, and signer of the Declaration of Independence, known chiefly because his autographs are of extreme rarity and collectors have forced their value to a high figure.

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm just now getting around to begin the processing of Bombadil 's very generous Easter giveaway that I had the good fortune to win. I've also acquired two more Cinderellas for my hometown collection and, provided the stamps are all legit, will have completed the Kansas-Nebraska overprint section in my U.S. collection.

Was a banner day I managed to Start mounting some of the huge pile of material that has grown on my stamp table. One casualty,I had pulled out a small set of SP&M partially from its glassine and put it back in the pile.Upon getting around to it, to my chagrin the scotch tape that held it closed stuck to one stamp ruining it beyond hope. A far,far cry from being in control but it felt good to get back to stamps.Might be a while before I can do this again, music is still foremost in my mind right now.

Well my plans to stop buying Online did not turn out so well !! My visit home got delayed until the first of September and i could not stay away from my Ebay account, packages are still pilling up at home!! Yeyyy for me!!
At least after i bring back everything with me to Zambia, i will be able to control my buying urges better
So far i have heavily abused my budget on some long awaited for Wonderland Cinderellas !! Surprisingly i was faced with some fierce competition down that area, but thanks to my Snipping Skills i was able to win most of the bids . I can not deny that Londonbus1 warned me about the expensive quest of these issues !!
I was not planning on venturing into the world of Cinderellas so soon, but these Wonderland issues are just too damn hard to resist !! I already have a Cheshire Cat Tattoo on my leg, Two 1957 Vinyls Soundtracks of the original 1951 Cartoon,a 1927 colored reprint of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" the novel and now i am the proud owner of some original G.King stamps !!
Bombadil will be making a major comeback to the TSF playground end of September !!

I've finally got some time for a little stamping. Been transferring Argentina into my new custom made pages. Lots of fun, so nice to have pages that accommodates all the varieties one like to include . But when mounting the Department Official overprints, I realized I had forgot to make extra spaces for the horizontal watermark varieties, Sheet watermark varieties (on the stamps Scott notes as 'Unwmk' ) and the Typo varieties. So be it, I had some free space at the bottom of the pages to stick them in, not too many of these varieties anyway.

The summer is over, I think. On colnect I daily get new proposals for stamp exchanges. At the moment I'm preparing and negotiating five different exchanges. Take some time, but I think it is worth it.
Got one letter from a exchange friend in Canada yesterday, with nice Swiss stamps.
And I try to learn Scribus to make my own custom stamp pages. That also mean learn Postmasters script for Scribus.
