Well my plans to stop buying Online did not turn out so well !! My visit home got delayed until the first of September and i could not stay away from my Ebay account, packages are still pilling up at home!! Yeyyy for me!!
At least after i bring back everything with me to Zambia, i will be able to control my buying urges better
So far i have heavily abused my budget on some long awaited for Wonderland Cinderellas !! Surprisingly i was faced with some fierce competition down that area, but thanks to my Snipping Skills i was able to win most of the bids . I can not deny that Londonbus1 warned me about the expensive quest of these issues !!
I was not planning on venturing into the world of Cinderellas so soon, but these Wonderland issues are just too damn hard to resist !! I already have a Cheshire Cat Tattoo on my leg, Two 1957 Vinyls Soundtracks of the original 1951 Cartoon,a 1927 colored reprint of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" the novel and now i am the proud owner of some original G.King stamps !!
Bombadil will be making a major comeback to the TSF playground end of September !! Ah yes, I did warn you !! Still, happy you won some Wonderland items, they are quite unique in their own way and the story behind them is like a fairy tale in itself !! I'll keep an eye out for any duplicates or other Wonderland items for you. Indeed I have one unusual item in my suitcase right here that you might take a liking to................. More to come. As I write, all is quiet in the Beryllium Guy household and I am starting to get that Commonwealth collection ready for packing. Chris and I spent a few hours this evening going over some of the stamps............it was quite a fun evening. I even learned what a 'Business chop' was, a term which amused me no end. Indeed, I may send myself to sleep shortly just thinking about it !! If I get all of these stamps back safely, I will be having a lot of fun evenings in for the next year or so. I will most likely bore you all to tears with endless questions about Commonwealth stamps about which I am a total novice !! Put the earplugs in !! From Londonbus1 in Provence Bonne Nuit.

Londonbus1 - absolutely not, we love Commonwealth stamps - and most of us have lot more to learn as well, at least I do. Looking forward to your questions I'm still in Argentina, stamp-wise at least. Big thanks to @falshung for a useful reference

Pronounced BUN (like a hamburger bun) + NWHEE (not like nuit "knew-it")
Now you're ready to order a wet umbrella and a can of shoe polish in a fine French restaurant...say this as you depart in haste as the garçon slaps his forehead...

I've been trying to do more stamping and less forum monitoring when not working other home-related projects (part of an ongoing effort to clean the study/stamp room).
Yesterday I identified and filed some Japan stamps found in a pile of material that I had received from someone here on the Forum; sadly, I can no longer remember who sent them to me.
I believe that I may have just acquired three more pairs for my Ohio Prepaid Sales Tax collection -- won't know until I get them in hand as determining paper color and perforation type/measurement from online images is often not possible.

Even though I do less stamping in the Summer, this week I managed to do some inventory of New Zealand and Morocco (French) received from a good friend in Western Australia. This brings my NZ inventory to 250 stamps, for now.

Scanned some Chinese local stamps I couldn't identify as I planned to post then ask elsewhere on this forum....then I found similar items from the same set on eBay!
I moved some collections from my older Scott two-post albums into newer three-ring binders, so much easier to add and shuffle pages around! I've been cutting the Scott Specialty pages down to 8.5 inches x 11 inches as the pages otherwise seem to have ragged edges and don't always match, size-wise. Since I was doing the paper cutting several pages at a time, the guillotine-type paper cutter made a good bit of noise. Which woke up my sleeping wife in the main bedroom directly below, she thought I was moving furniture around! Repetive heavy-duty paper cutting at 1 am does make some sleep-disturbing noise, as I found out!!!
The countries I've worked on so far this week include Antigua, Anguilla, Great Britain, Russia (partially) Vatican City, and some Z countries I don't have complete. Not sure where I got those pages from but they are the printed one-side only, on thicker, off-white paper, which is my preference.

This was the aforementioned Kewkiang Chinese Local stamp.....I found several other values from the same set on eBay going unpurchased at less than ten dollars each so I know I won't get rich from the ten cent single I have. Which, with China sometimes, you just never can tell if you have a fortune in unidentified stamps. Maybe next time... --Jim Wentzell stampguyaps177-681

I finally (yes, finally!) managed to mount the rest of my Luxembourg stamps. Now all that I have in the stock books are post-'82 and mostly used. I also have year packs of 2007, 2008 & 2009 to mount, but they'll get done some other time. I also started mounting my early Canadian stamps. I re-designed the sheets to something a bit nicer than what I had. The Quebec Tercentenary is done, along with the Admirals, although I can't say for sure which are wet or dry printings! Now that I have started with Canada, two auction lots arrived in the mail today with a bunch of German stamps. Another one is in the mail. So I picked up the 2018 Scott's catalog from the library to see just what exactly I have. I also have a folded letter sheeting the mail from Pictou NS to Irishtown (in Halifax) from 1833! And I received an email stating that a post card from my (present) home town of Brighton from 1889 is in the mail. Yay Busy, busy, busy!

Haha - busy, busy is the name of the game. Congratulations on the progress with Luxembourg 😀 The Quebec Tercentenary is done, along with the Admirals, although I can't say for sure which are wet or dry printings! A clue: The wet paper shrinked after printing. The difference is normally easy to see with following trick. Find one Admiral that was only issued as wet printing and another that was only issued as dry print. If you align them you will see one is slightly higher than the other. Use those two stamps as reference for the other Admirals that was printed both on wet and dry paper. Good luck 😊

Sheesh, and here I was looking at the width! For Canadian Admiral stamps, it is the width you need to look at. Other types that come in wet & dry printings do sometimes need to have their height checked, though. It depends on how the grain of the paper is laid. This BNAPS page gives an overview of the wet & dry printings for Admirals - they give an example of how to overlay a stamp to give a quick check on design width. I have taken it a step further. There are a number of examples like this in the world of stamp collecting and when I come across a damaged stamp that fits one of these examples, I'll just cut the edge of it off so I can use it as a template to lay over top of other stamps. Thanks Ryan for clarifying, obviously the width, my bad Been too long since I did the Admirals. Anyway, my point was the clue of comparing sizes with the Admirals that only exists as only dry or only wet.

The same sort of test can be done to check the difference between flat plate & rotary plate printings, on US stamps for example. So, more cut-up stamps in my small glassine that contains these things!

I think I will tape my "samples" to the perforation gauge I use a lot--using wide clear packing tape (will send a picture when I get home to show actual use!) --Jim

I started working on a Malta lot I purchased. It covered KGVI era to around 1973. The later issues were not the usual British empire stamps but showed originality in the 60's and beyond.

I managed to update the 9 cent and 15 cent Reserve Litho pages of my OSTS collection to incorporate the stamps sent my by mikeclevenger. All that remains are updates to the 3 cent and 6 cent Reserve pages and I'll be caught up (with the OSTS) until my most recent ebay purchase arrives.

I continued mounting (& re-mounting) my older Canada. Now done up to the post-war KGVI definitive series with POSTES/POSTAGE, without will have to wait until tomorrow the the remnants of that hurricane gives me a good soaking. I laboured trying to sort out how to mount them - regular issue with & without, coils, booklet panes, pre-cancels, OHMS & G overprinted officials. I finally sorted that out and it looks much better than what I had. I'll take a break for some Netflix & chill - Au Service de la France (hilarious!), Ozark (scary) and stream Get Smart from the computer...

Today was my first real stamp day in awhile, not counting when Michael ( Londonbus1) was here. Went back to the local open-air market on Saturday morning, and picked up some more odds and ends classic era stamps from the dealer who regularly comes there, but still no Cinderellas. He promised me weeks ago to bring some during Michael's visit, but he forgot, and he has continued to forget. So, I have been soaking stamps much of today and did three good-sized batches, as I am removing stamps from old album pages. The stamps are all 19th Century, and all have been mounted with paper hinges which can only be safely removed by soaking, as near as I can tell. And while I was doing the soaking today, I was listening to an audio book that my wife bought me for Christmas, called "The One-Cent Magenta", which tells the story of the world's most valuable stamp. All in all, quite a nice day!

Well today I joined TSF!
But otherwise, I picked up a recent US/Canada catalog during a trip to the US this summer and just received the new Yvert&Tellier catalog for African countries from G to Z. So now I'm going through my collection and marking my holdings in them. Usually takes me about two months. Today, in between other duties, I did some 20 years of Canadian yearly collections.
Cheers!
