I realise that I haven't contributed to this thread for nearly a month. Quite a busy one! I have received some Stamporama purchases (Greenland, UK, Netherlands, cindies...) and gone every Sunday to the Barcelona stamp market. I've been able to fill some holes on my Swiss and Swedish collections. Last Sunday, a dealer that I've known for years, told that he had for sale many items from the huge collection of a friend of mine that died half a year ago. I was able to buy some interesting items from Andorra (already posted on the thread), a 1982 Barcelona special postmark that I was missing (one of the few pm that I didn't have from the more than 1600 ones used in our city since 1888), and some cinderella items that will find their way to the TSF auction or sales (not sure yet!) thread. I hope that every Sunday they'll bring more items. I'll keep you updated.

Three more Samoa Express items making their way to me next week , the 1/- I bought on eBay and two from Mowbray’s auction in New Zealand , a State 1. Penny and a sixpence. I had another three bids but was beaten to the hammer., Still 3 out of six is not bad. Just browsing the latest additions from Mark Bloxham and noticed a complete sheet of the Samoa Express state 3.

He has had that on ebay for a year or more. I made a reduced offer last month due to the surface damage on 3 out of the 10 positions. He counter offered -10% but I reckon his price was still too high so I am not buying . If he still has it at Stampex we might try face to face negotiations!

While comparing some loose stamps with what I have mounted I discovered that I had completely missed France Yvert #884, 6 centimes Green Marianne du Gandon 9th series... just skipped right over it...
I'm not sure I can just re-do the single page without having to redo the next three pages also
Arrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

Mount stamp on page it goes.....let it aside a few days (you might forget that PAGE is to be replaced) - when you do not know what to do or lack projects.......re-do - Yesterday I re-did 2 custom pages of "Poste Aérienne" to accomodate stamps I did not have and that I found in one of my France binders, so I have a few nice additions and once I finished mounting, .........I found another stamp......life !!

I have a drawer full of pages that I had to redo. I save them for other uses like tags (used in Vario pages) since they are blank on backside and stiffer than normal paper.

I have been working a few projects including the Portuguese Ceres issues, with a detour to the back-of-the-book and some postage dues, some exhibition pages for Canada's Locomotive series (1983-1986) and not to be forgotten, some recent purchases of Antarctic covers and penguin-related material needs to be gone through ;-) In the meantime, this envelope with its content of USA Transportation Coil strips (PNC5) was all but given up for lost showed up on the doorstep and needs some attention,
Postmarked, 3 APR 2021 CYPRESS, CA : Received, 30 June, 2021 Nadadouro, Leiria
Happy collecting!

That’s good of René to send it. Unusual with the upside down stamp. I wonder if they were trying to make a statement or just in a hurry

I’ve been burning the midnight oil again trying to sort a huge stash of Machins. Last night was the turn of the NVI 1st class in ‘flame’. Unusual name for a colour. So far I’ve sorted them into 24 varieties with one more pile to go through

How do you define the Machin varieties for the 1st Flame issue?

How do you define the Machin varieties for the 1st Flame issue? Good question angore Firstly I went through and separated them out into types. I.e some imperfect on top, some on bottom, elliptical perfs, phosphor paper or bands etc. Then I looked at the perforation to see if they were from sheets or booklets, I.e cut perforations on one or more edges or torn apart perfs. Then I looked at printing types, photogravure or lithography (I haven’t grasped EME yet). That certainly narrowed them down into different piles. Then each pile was gone through to see if there were any anomalies. I did find one with a missing perf and another that stood out from all the rest by sight (might be EME). All in all a lot of work but very enjoyable. I’ve included a picture of the odd guy out and the missing perf with my scribble on for reference. Regards Graham

From the 'Shoutbox' to 'Whatcha Been Stamping', I show one of several examples of a mole (Talpa europaea) depicted on a postage stamp,
Alderney 2015 Flora e Fauna Set
The philatelic question of the day then becomes, how many stamps are there that show a Talpa europaea within its four corners?
Now if I could just keep them out of our garden...
Happy collecting!

But moles are so cute, and they do help aerating the ground to help promote growth of all things. Just plant a garden around those holes! They'd love you for it!

We have moles here in the field. I’ve never seen one but they certainly let you know they are about. Funnily enough I sent out a postcrossing card today and the lady was after mole related cards. I did find the wind in the willows PHQ card but it would have been great to stick the mole stamp on as well as spotted by vikingeck

Today I corrected, reprinted and remounted several pages which had errors that I had initially missed. Now "playing with how to display the 1953 France Red Cross Booklet/ There is no way to show inside and cover on a page as it is too long when open.... and I've decided too pricey to buy more so i can display on a single page- This will be a page that will need to be removed from the protective sleeve to view the contents of the booklet

Good decision, Stan - one thing you could do is scan the interior and paste it on the opposite page as additional info R I had considered that and still might!! I have the initial layout and cut out to slide/insert the back through the page and use clear photo corner mounts to secure ithe back side 'free" corners. I finally stopped and let it rest- nerve racking and this booklet seems especially fragile. It is time for a glass od wine and relax!Tomorrow is another day! I am playing music with friends midday, but will have the afternoon free to try and finalize the page and also layout an oposing page with printed images (will use color printer at work for that!) I hope to get a packet off to you next week! as well as some other promised mailings

A local cancer charity is sponsoring 50 x 2.5 metre tall fibre glass artwork lighthouses to be distributed in local galleries , museums and shopping Malls throughout the city and surrounding county towns. The Aberdeen philatelic society is promoting itself in conjunction with these art works with exhibition A Frames in a few locations with the theme “Lighthouses on stamps and postcards” . I have spent a couple of hours with the club President mounting up some of these frames using a collection from another member. We have to transport these to a couple of museums next week . I should have taken photos today but forgot my phone. So will post a picture or two next Thursday as we move the frames .

Here is a beautiful set and sheet of airplane stamps from Alderney which is now nicely mounted in that country's album.
