Collectors. look at all 4 corners of the C12...Notice anything...?
Robert
also here is my NFLD transatlantic first flight..Look at every stamp you get..Here is an oddity that a lot of collectors miss...i call it 8,8...8,8...9.8...8.8

At this time in history the swastika was a good luck symbol, frequently found on greeting cards. Nothing to do with the German politics of the late 1930s.

Correct..Pre 1940..
The symbol swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means “good fortune” or “well-being." BUT..Approach of WW2..Things changed.

There is a very good explanation of the 3000 year history of the swastika and it's meaning from the Indus Valley civilization up to the present time, here. It is truly unfortunate that we continue to look on this symbol with the negative association it has had with the National Socialist German Worker's Party, given that they were only in power 12 years. Hopefully this association will fade over time.

I have been bouncing around lately in my stamp work...I just finished working on Thailand and moved over to Hong Kong. I had purchased two file folders with pages from albums (see my sale thread) at the most recent bourse I attended. One of the folders also had a page of Hungarian stamps on back of one of the Hong Kong pages. So, I decided to go through my album purchases as well and found all the Turul flying over Crown of St. Stephen stamps. I like this particular classic issue from Hungary because there is a lot to look for with perforation differences, watermark differences, etc..
It looks like I will fill a number of holes in my classic Hungary Steiner pages.

I think that it is far more important to remember the more than 6 million Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals and others that were slaughtered in the shadow of the Nazi swastika than it is to try and rehabilitate the former meaning of this symbol. Hitler and his Nazi party should forever be remembered as a stain on humanity that cannot be erased.

I was watching an episode of a drama series called "Victoria". In an early episode, it shows Queen Victoria holding up a sheet of Penny Blacks and making a comment about someone had to lick her face to mail a letter.

Robert Not true, there was no law against it, and it still passed through the post unchallenged. No doubt it occurred by error or possibly by deliberate intent. It may have been considered impolite “lesse Majeste” in some circles. It is possible some republican minded citizens might have done it as a protest, but never illegal . interestingly in the heyday of the picture postcard in the 1900s there was a “language of stamps” whereby the angle the stamp was fixed supposedly conveyed a message…….eg. Love you, goodbye, can we meet ….etc

Colnect keeping me busy my nights off work. Have added several hundred listings for Indian States (conventions and feudals) based on Michel that I've been cross referencing with Gibbons India regional catalogue. Also been working with another contributor improving our listings of Chinese regionals (Sinkiang in particular). Also will soon be expanding specialized coverage for Chile, Ecuador and Turkey thanks to contributors working with me to add information from the Bertossa (Ecuador), Sociedad Filatelica Chilena (Chile) and Isfila (Turkey) catalogues.
I'm also expanding my catalogue library waiting for copies of Zumstein (Switzerland), PhilaIndia (India), Catalogul Timbrelor Romanesti (Romania) and Korea Stamp Catalogue (South Korea) to hopefully arrive safely. Almost secured a copy of the Egypt specialized catalogue Nile Post but was sniped at the end on EBay.

Things have been quiet on my Stamping. A great deal of time has been spent at waterside cottages catching up with friends and family. I take no stamping material with me, I do drop in the Forum from time to time to see what’s up. I am happy to see Terri back with us. Like others have said, I too have missed her posts. one stamping project I have been working on is about the local post offices from the rural area were I was raised in Nova Scotia. I knew where a couple of them were ( in homes ) but there are a couple I never knew about. I have been able to find names off all the postmasters and dates of service along with when the post office was closed. One postmaster was an Avis stamp collector and I have acquired many covers address to or from him. I am hoping to go to my home village later in the year. I am planning to speak with those that remember those who were postmaster of these offices. i have attached a couple of the covers in question.

I am assuming you found the information on Library and Archives Canada. I was able to find the names of all the post offices in Queens County, Nova Scotia in book that the Toronto resource library had. I then was able to cross reference the dates, locations and postmasters. Queens County had close to 50 with some having spelling changes. I have managed to find covers and postcards with postmarks for 30 so far. I try to find as early as possible. For my home town of Liverpool I have many. As the main town I now do pick up covers using different classic stamps up to around 1920.

From that list I searched them in the Canada Archives of post offices and post masters to get more detail specifically on closing dates or being renamed.

Re Penny Blacks, I think I recall seeing a margin imprint on a penny black multiple which instructed the user to moisten the corner of the envelope and place the dry stamp there.
EDIT I've done some searching to no avail. Apparently I am incorrect about this confusing with another stamp

Well after my 80th birthday I have become a grumpy old man! Falling out with people who irritate me .
Case 1 . Yesterday Cos I had an appointment with my optometrist , I went to a post office nearby ( not my usual one , with Carole who knows and understand stamp collectors) . I had three large letters to post , franked with about half a dozen stamps , each with the correct total for size and weight. The clerk glared at me when I asked for a certificate of post and moaned “ Oh you have put stamps on these. I’ll have to add up all these stamps” . I said “they are all correct “ ( Carole never needs to question me ) . The clerk then started to write down the value of each stamp on a piece of paper and reached for a calculator………I grabbed my mail, muttered “life is too short” and later in the day ,handed it in to Carole with no question.
Case 2 . today there was a queue at our usual post office and just as it was my turn with 4 others behind me , a large lady rushed forward , loudly excusing herself for being in a rush to hand over a couple of stamped packages for mailing . You will gather she got an earful from me ….who pointed to the queue and remonstrated that we were all just as busy a she was.
Gee I do not do patience very well ! And now I am no longer afraid to voice my protest at incompetence and at rudeness.

Well, Alex ( vikingeck), I don't blame you in these cases. The second incident with the lady trying to shortcut the queue puts me in mind of a sign that I used to see in an old work colleague's office: "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!"
