I spent a lot of time identifying Canada yesterday as I have no real knowledge of the country's stamp so locating issues in Scott since not 100% illustrated. Stampworld.com really helps. To me Stampworld.com is the model Scott needs to get to but not going to pay $400 a year in access costs. angore, if interested, i have a couple of recent Unitrade Specialized Canada catalogues that could use a new home. I think I have 2017 and 2017 and 2011 for sure. As will will not be home for a couple of weeks I can only confirm at that time. If interested send me a PM. david

Will not be stamping for next few weeks. Had planned to spend time at cottage with friends but plans have changed.
Head home to Nova Scotia for funeral and will stay longer and do other visiting as well.
As I drive by Edmundston, Rene, I will wave. Perhaps on the drive back , if you are around, we could meet for a coffee.
Unlike the cottage, I will have internet so i can keep up with happenings on the Forum.

janetc and renden ...thank you for your well wishes. I actually feel good, I just have a little bit of infection at the incision site where I had an appendectomy. After they found the right antibiotic, it seems to be going away. They also want to do an angiography after the infection clears as, sometime during the surgery, I developed an irregular heartbeat. And, yes, I have my iPad with me. They would have probably had to move me to the psychiatric ward if I didn’t! Wishing you a speedy recovery. It’s great to have internet access while in hospital. Connection to the ´ outside ´ world helps with healing. david

Found some time to work through about half of the French stamps received from a colleague of my Sister. Worked through the definitives and have 37 set aside for another small giveaway -- unfortunately, none of them would fill spaces in my collection. Commemoratives are next but probably not until tomorrow at the earliest. I did, however, find a military stamp that I needed; Scott M12 issued July 20, 1964.

Still mounting Belgium. Now King Albert I 1931-31 issue. Some colour variations, not so easy to see on scan.

Great job tobben63 - Your work looks fantastic! Yes, I know! I've experienced the same - shades can appear prominent when looking at them in daylight, but once scanned and replicated on the monitor, the nuances seems to be almost gone. Same for photos taken with cameras. Very annoying indeed! I enjoy to spend time to identify good shades, so it is frustrating when the images of the result don't appreciate the effort I once read the human eye can see/detect more shades than most scanners and PC's can replicate, so guess that's part of the challenge. I am no data-nerd, but probably someone can tell us if it is possible to get scanners that can pick up a wider span of shades? Obviously the accuracy of the scanner will never be any better than the light-source used to illuminate the scanner-bed, and that light source is not necessarily as good as daylight. Quality scanners should have a daylight-LED lightsource with high CRI (color rendering index) - and obviously a good photocell to pick up the entire spectrum of colours. Finally I saw somewhere that the scanners and monitor should be calibrated....hmmm, way above me! Will someone please arrange a free service - Hotline - for Stamping-IT challenges ??

I've not been able to do any Stamping at all the last week. Makes me feeling poorly. So have done some shopping to ease the pain, which is risky... I find it very difficult to stop once I've started!

After visiting the forums this morning, I printed Steiner album pages mounted some Bermuda stamps I had purchased. I broke my general rule of not getting stamps after 1980 or so but Bermuda has been more reasonable in stamp issuing policies.
Steiner issues a specific country's pages in year range. Now, I understand why he has a classic set and a full set but most pages end up as PDF's ranging from 10K to 100K in size. This is somewhat inconvenient so now I just use Acrobat (full version) to integrate in one file. For example, Bermuda from first issue to 2002 is only 300KB for 104 pages. Also it is easier to find issues since you can use the search function to jump to the year or issue subject name.

Last Sunday there was a rather full auction. I managed to pick up three lots without competition and then mugged one of the regulars, Hugh, on the way through the carpark for one of his unsold lots. So far I have only cursed the idiot who broke open the bundleware to 'fill up' the box. From the lot that cost me £5 came a Wildings booklet page with three stamps and three different slogans with a catalogue value of £45. There was a set of mint Wildings 1st issue as well and the remains of that lot will soon be offered up. In the £1 lot a couple of clean covers and the £12 lot has a lot of German. So much so, all I have done since then is sort them into little piles with more plastic cartons still to open. And the postmarks The downside is I now have a medium sized box full of broken open bundleware to get rid of.

Congratulations, Gavin ( feebletodix ), it sounds like you have done very well for yourself at this latest auction! I am looking forward to getting back there again myself one of these days. If there is any pre-1930 Germany up for grabs from your haul, I hope I will get a chance at it. Still looking for wants and upgrades for my meager collection. I will post some images of those stock pages in the near future so that you and everyone can see. Anyway, congrats to you!

I haven't done much in the past week, but have to get going again now.
I'm making up a Germania ID Guide to make it easier for me to figure things out, and my Vista Stamps order finally arrived with an envelope whack-a-doodle full of Canadian and American stamps. So I now have to print out the album pages for these stamps. I'm almost done buying modern Canada - up to 1982, then a few issues here & there that interest me. Other than that, no thanks. Maybe later I'll get the rest, but just maybe.
It's such a nice day out today too & I'm only ½ way to getting my steps in...

Once it got hot outside I came in and spent some more time organizing my Mystery Box from Mr Frog, until I couldn't decide what to do next (so for now I have multiple piles)- I then went through another batch of Great Britain Scott 33_ and put away the ones that were nice, but not better than what I've mounted, culled a few, placed a few in the "unable to ID the plate #, and found about 5 or six that were better examples than what I have mounted. My plate collection is plate number first, color variety 2nd, if there's a "tie", then best cancellation wins, and 4 margins are nice but seem very uncommon (I don't think perforating had been well refined yet....) If it doesn't get mounted it goes here for now

I've spent the day working on the Canadian stamps that I have received in the past few weeks, including all the definitives & their varieties. The Floral, Trees, Street Scenes & National Parks definitives look great in their new home now. The pre-cancel warning strips just fit, a couple would fit, but I failed to notice the width differential from the others. Too late, but it looks better than being stuck in the stockbook since 1972 or so! Now I have to work on the Caricature & Landscape definitives. <rant> aka tl;dr! I was buying from a stamp shop in the Netherlands & was reasonably happy with them. But I kept getting the wrong stamp. It would be marked as what I wanted, but on inspection, it was another variety. They would credit me the postage THEIR way, but not mine in having to send it back. Eventually, every order had errors. I stopped buying from them as it was too annoying. Recently, I found a Canadian stamp shop. They deal mainly with Canadian, some American & a smattering of worldwide. So I have filled 100's of holes in Canada. I'd have more, but I specialize in definitives, and there are many varieties with them. On going through some of these stamps, all of which they classify as VFNH, I'd say not. One stamp ha a prominent "Y" shaped crease in it. Good for postage & nothing else. A couple have grease spots on them. Again... very prominent. 3 were just the wrong stamp. Some are just not centred. It's not like these would be difficult to see. One is not tagged when it should be. Another is from different printers. Why is it so difficult to find a stamp store that identifies stamps correctly. Once I sort these stamps out, I'll stop buying from them as well, or at least stop buying stamps from them. I have had at least a dozen problems with 4 orders. I was also looking at a collection of Albanian they have on sale now. But taking a second look, they are apparently used. And from what I have seen, all used I have come across are CTO. So I have stopped looking at that! </rant>

darkomex, I do not know if you have come across this little topic over on stampboards, it is listed in Gibbonian order but it does try very hard to provide a picture of every (unified) Australian stamp and some of the recent variations. Just like to point out it takes about twentyfive pages to get from 1913 to 1990 and another seventy to get from then to now. www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8394&hilit=wimmera

No Stamping going on for me. Have extended my trip.
i do not think that beer, beach and stamps are a good combination.
When I do have internet, not much time to catch. I have gone into town today for coffee and Wifi. What a novelty.
five more days, then back home to tackle the pile of mail I am told is waiting for me.
Happy Stamping all.

I spent most of my stamp time this weekend going through albums looking for "needs to be mounted" stamps and ended up creating 3 custom pages for varieties. I also decided to create some stamp tags using the premium paper from messed up printed album pages after printing over 1000 pages. It is same to toss it since 1) it is not cheap paper and 2) one side is good.

Besides working on these Canadian definitives, I am now testing out the Mac version of Album Easy. It looks lie it would be a great way to make album pages. More learning is needed to figure out all the text formatting.

I just said a lot of works needs to be done, but I'm afraid a lot of work will now have to wait. I just registered for the Army Run in Ottawa on Sunday September 22. I'll be walking (yeah, I fall if I run!) a ½ marathon! Hoo-wee... I need to train a bit I think. The most I have walked is 11k's. This will be over 21! So this aft will be a first 10k in a while. Four days in Ottawa. I don't want to drive up the morning of the event! Go early, sightsee & walk a lot, then walk even more! Cheer me on in my training & the event as well!

Whoops, no walk. No socks, raining and the boots are brand new. So I went to Panera Bread & then Sport Chek. Now I'm just about all set now for some training walks.
And now that I am back, I'll poke around in Album Easy.

This will be over 21! Your running skills sound like mine ... My wife & I like to walk when she's up here in Alberta with me and this summer we went around the Glenmore Reservoir, roughly 15 km so a good healthy jaunt (with a stop at Heritage Park on the way back for a quick snack). Next summer's plan is to take the public transit from Canmore to Banff and then walk back (downhill in that direction, that sounds better to me than going in the other direction). 24 km to accomplish that - hopefully I won't need to outrun any bears! At last the German stamps are finished, well me sorting my leftovers is anyway. So the scaning of some of it has begun, I am not going to bore you with twenty five small stock cards of postmarks, I might with the postal history covers but the Feldpostkarte will go onto the postcard to be scanned pile. Then I sat down with a cup of tea and empty hands, I reach down and pull up the next plastic carton, Ice Cream this time, open it and find it full of Machins. Watch for a giveaway soon, they will need re-cycling, preferably out of the country. Now I need your help, well somebody's anyway. Somebody with an opinion. Amongst the large pile of stamps on piece and loose contaminated with foxing were these three German slogan postmarks. Their quality is not good enough for my collection, but I know others are less selective and would pay for them. Alas I do not know how much they are actually worth in this condition. Can somebody advise me please? Thank you. Three German Machine Postmarks from 1936, 1937 and 1941

Performed some Forum administrative functions before and after a routine visit to the doctor. Most notably, I updated the current state of play regarding entrants in the Forum's Article of Distinction selection giveaway. If you haven't already done so and would like a chance to win a Penny Black, Bluenose or Baby Zepp, you need to make your selections in each of the four issue polls before they are locked at the end of the day on August 31st (New York time).
