Those are fabulous! I really like the letterheads as well. Do you solely buy covers with contents, or are there ones you don't mind buying without?

No I'll buy covers w/o contents but I must admit I do keep my eyes peeled for the complete cover with content. These Tobacco related covers I picked up in small groups. I owned a tobacco store and was/am a tobacconist so there is my interest. In fact some of the coolest I have don't have content sans the folded letters of course. Thank you Spain!

This cover franked with a 2c brown violet Columbian (Scott 232) and postmarked with a Louisville, KY duplex on March 8, 1893 carries the corner card of J. H. Quast & Co. The reverse is adorned with what I assume was the company's logo and has a March 10, 1893 Haverhill, Massachusetts receiving stamp. During this era, Haverhill, MA had become a world leader in the shoe industry (see inset) There isn't much available online regarding Quast but it appears the company suffered a devastating fire in late-1894. A report on the fire, printed in the December 30, 1894 edition of San Francisco's The Morning Call, follows:

I found a page full of stuff but I didn't go through them all. I did see the fire mentioned though. I Google'd this - J.H. Quast & Co. Louisville, Ky. (I'm sure that's what you probably done though.)
That's really a neat cover!

Excuse my ignorance, can we assume then, from the above image, that Jersey Shore was using a CORK canceller, and the particular shape (if indeed an identifiable shape exists) can be attributed to Jersey Shore?

I would venture a guess that, by this timeframe, the Jersey Shore post office was using a duplex handstamp (either provided by the Post Office Department or ordered through a supplier by the postmaster).

rod they did use corks on an off through the years. In fact one particular one is coveted by Lycoming County collectors. It's a star with a dot in the center of the star it is listed in Skinners references. Having said that however I also own the typical Duplex cancellation device with the oval killer so maybe it was just postmaster preference perhaps? I'll swipe an image off the web to better illustrate the cork.

This isn't an advertizing cover but it is one of those coveted Circle in Star cancels Jeff showed. The image is from a Schuyler Rumsey's Sale 44 (Lot 1438) -- the price realized was $140.

I see, then if JS had a duplex, why use the cork canceller? seems odd, and possibly against regulations. (I have re read the posts, I guess Postmaster liked the "look")

(I have re read the posts, I guess Postmaster liked the "look") I think that, for the most part, you are looking at a chronological progression in the use of canceling devices, from pen to locally-made cork/wood/etc. to commercially-made, duplex handstamps and machines. On the Jersey Shore covers shown above, the Circle in Star handstamp was used in the 1860s and the presumed duplex handstamp in the 1890s. There are a number of images of handstamps on the Smithsonian's Arago site at the link below:

I love the ornateness of the advertising on it! I see it wears a Leavenworth Kansas Postmark too.
Then:
Leavenworth: founded in 1854, was the first incorporated city in Kansas. The city is directly south of Fort Leavenworth, the Intellectual Center of the Army and home to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center. The Fort was established as Cantonment Leavenworth in 1827 by Colonel Henry Leavenworth. The fort was located outside the city limits of Leavenworth until it was annexed by the city on April 12, 1977. It is also currently home to the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies, the Center for Army Leadership, the Combat Studies Institute, the Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate, the Center for Army Lessons Learned and the Mission Command Center of Excellence.
Leavenworth is the home of many detention centers and prisons, including the Leavenworth federal prison for which the city is most famous, and several smaller jails and prisons, including the city and county jails, a Federal Detention Center, and the military's only maximum security prison, the United States Disciplinary Barracks which is inside the Military Corrections Complex that also includes the Joint Regional Correctional Facility, a pre- and post-trial detention facility built in 2010. The Kansas State Penitentiary and a state medium security prison are also located nearby.
Beneath the city appears to be another one entirely: a recently publicized underground series of "vaults," from years past.
Now:
Leavenworth is the largest city in and the county seat of Leavenworth County, Kansas, United States. Located on the west bank of the Missouri River 25 mi (40 km) northwest of Kansas City, Missouri, it is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 35,251.
Missouri Valley Life insurance Company, Leavenwoth Kansas:
The first insurance company of any kind to be given permit in Kansas, was the Leavenworth Insurance company, which was given a territorial permit by the auditor to write fire insurance in 1855. The Missouri Valley Life, of Leavenworth was the first to be chartered, in 1868. These facts were revealed by President Samuel E. Cobb, of the Historical Society, in his address on "The History of Life Insurance Companies."

Here is a cover I just picked up this morning. It's a Series 1902 $1.00 David Farragut Scott #311 on advert cover. I haven't yet had time to do any research on it yet. I picked it up for a little over $6.00 US lol

The $1 stamp of the 1902-03 series was issued on June 5, 1903 so it obviously has replaced the stamp that was originally on the cover that bears a clear July 22, 1902 strike of a Winona Lake, Indiana CDS.
The 2011 CV for a Scott 311 on cover was $1,500 which explains why an unscrupulous person would make the switch
Still, $6 for a $90 stamp isn't bad!

I wouldn't complain about paying 7% of CV for what appears to be a sound stamp. Plus, you've got a great example of a forged cover! Had you paid 7% of CV for a legitimate 311 on cover ($100+) that would have been another story.

Thank you Steve! This is the first time I'm actually not upset about being duped. You think I ought to complain to the seller for a discount? lol
This was written in the description. Guess it pays to read the whole description huh? Oh well lesson learned.

This is another cover I picked up this month. This is the sellers image so I cannot make out the mailing address but I love the graphics of the advertising piece. (I think that's a Barr-Fyke cancellation) Courtesy of wt1: Here's some information on the evolution of the Peet Brothers Manufacturing Company which eventually developed into today's Colgate-Palmolive Company: Quote:

I'll apologize for these cruddy images now but like usual I'll scan them up proper when the arrive. {Re-Scan posted below} It's from M.D. Gressy & Co. Teamsters & Forwarders 109 South Market Street Boston, Mass. and has a nice clear strike of a Bradford, New Hampshire Receiving mark on the reverse. Front:Back:Information:Apparently W.M. Carr was a retailer in Bradford, NH. Quote:
