Hi @falshung I am collecting the 1937 Coronation series of stamps and covers. I came across an article that mentions that covers with first day cancel addressed to J. D. Harris & Son, 43 Lightwoods Hill, Birmingham, England are likely to be forgeries. It seems Harris was imprisoned for 9 months after Robson Lowe exposed him for applying forged first day cancels to Coronation covers. Would you have more insights into this? I believe the stamps are real on covers but postmarks are probably forged. What would be a good way to identify forged ones from real?

My forgery interests are basically in the stamps themselves so I really don't get involved with postmarks.
Forged postmarks greatly outnumber forged stamps and can be difficult to authenticate without visual inspection unless it is a standard known fake cancel
All the Harris covers are almost certainly fakes as are many others of the 1937 Coronation covers (if people collect it, somebody will fake it)
If you intend to collect these covers, you might want a copy of the Madame Joseph book by Cartright -mine is out on loan so I cannot check right now
There are 2 exhibits online that have general information for coronation collectors - a search will bring up the pdfs
KING GEORGE VI CORONATION ISSUE - Gary Dickinson CORONATION 1937 COVERS - Allan Oliver and the Royal Philatelic Society London should have something in their archives
