The obliteration caught my eye- Yvert & Tellier #53g green-yellow on greenish with a obliteration typically use on letters prepaid without stamps - Identified in Jean Pothion's France Obliterations 1849 -1876 (published in 1972) as #2802 (which would be under the bottom edge, and this is the only PD "crown" with double circle. Nov 6, 1872 Imprimes Paris, the red ink cancels are the more common and about60% the CV of a black ink stamp (and that price was based on a full complete stamp. These were Often used on mailing of printed matter/Journals

A nice new arrival, France YT #T5: This is Type II, from the second printing in 1873, recognizable at the white dot in the center of the "C" of "Chiffre" in the top cartouche and the left side of the curlicue in the bottom right corner being broken.

Success!!! I had to settle for a used 50F green (and accept the fact an unused stamp was out of reach).

It's been a whirlwind week, but I can finally devote some time to recent stamp arrivals. Here I got a new variant of the YT#16, French Empire Napoléon III, 40c orange. From left to right, I think I have: YT #16 ( jaune-orange, orange yellow), YT#16a ( orange vif, bright orange), and YT#16b ( orange sur paille, orange on yellowish paper). Hello, Xavier! It was great seeing you online the other day! First of all, congratulations on this beautiful array of three shades of the 40c Napoleon III. But I have a question: is there any chance that the first example could be the orange vif instead of the second one? To my eye, at least, it is the brightest and most intense color of the three. Admittedly, I don't have any expertise in this area or references for the colors, but at least based on the description, that's how it looks to me. Are you able to comment any further on this?

I must have missed hrdoktorx post from September. Beautiful examples! Below is a scan of some of mine and the variations in color is 'wide" ( and the uploading has greatly dulled the colors as #3,4 & 5 are quite 'orange") but I have nothing to compare with the very left stamp of Xaviers. The 3 stamps on the far right are a bit of a mystery, the two flawed stamps may become paty of an upcoming 'experiment" What seems most peculiar is th efar right stamp, the inking seems to change for pale orange to brown tone on the right side(?)
Bernard Brinette describes 6 color variations in his "Great color chart of Classic French Stamps, 2011, none of which any orange-brown tone

1936 Commemoration the 100th flight over the south Atlantic (5/12/1930 - 12/7/1936) Yvert # 321. This completes the pair for me. i had originally sough mint stamps, but the prices have just gone through the roof... I got very lucky on this stamp at a lower cost than I have lost out on a number of times before. Cancel date looks to be 3/11/1937 from Paris

A page for the Precurseur Guynemer. I am am posting here as this was approved by P.T.T. and Maury Ceres & Dallay, Yvert & Tellier, and Spink|Maury include these two issues in their catalogues, and in the more recent catalogues are included with the Postes Aériennes issues. Information was pieced together from multple sources as the catalogues each gives bits and pieces. ***and yes I have spotted and now corrected the typos!***

I won a nice lot of earlier France stamps (Type Blanc, Merson, Pasteure, Semeuse, etc). As I am looking through them, these caught my eyes (which I had no noticed when I was bidding as there were a couple of other items that got my eye ( and I will post shortly). These are a ( I think) a hand stamped overprint TAXE REDUITE (Reduced Tax) A 0f 10 . It is on postal stationary/card, and the one scan with perforated edge makes me think it was a pre-paid reply postcard. I cannot make any of the obliterations out (although the close appears to be PARIS) , and I have never seen this before (although now that I am looking, I see a number of whole cards on E-Bay, but no explanation of what this was for? ANYONE? here's a close-up

I was going to posst this under a thread, but the only semi-relavant thread does not deal with this series, so rather than start a new thread, I thought this was pretty cool, a full 5 x 5 pane of Yvert 144 60c violet with blue, and these have a particularly nice alignment of the blue ink! No idea what the handwritten 98 is in reference to...

A small group of blocks from the Taxe 1893-1935 series (Yv28-42A) plus the 5f from 1941 (Yv66). Still a couple of holes to be filled. 6 of these (5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 50c) also come in a GC paper variety, some of which I have as singles, but I have never seen them in blocks.
